The accumulated resourced needed to construct a Worm Bin will sell for 845g, without any professions. This means that it will take a Worm Bin about 42 days to pay for itself. This becomes far worse if the player is BUYING these materials; assuming the player buys the gold and iron in year one, a single Worm Bin will instead cost 4,675g, and will take 267 days to pay for itself.
However, it is important to note that this does not account for the opportunity cost of traveling to the beach to buy bait. While bait is cheap, it takes a significant amount of time to travel to Willy's to buy it, and if the player is doing so regularly, the lost time can quickly add up. By contrast, Worm Bins can be placed along common paths, so their collection becomes incidental to other tasks.
In other words, if the player is using significant amounts of bait and finds themselves making regular trips to Willy's, and they are able to collect the resources themselves, they may find Worm Bins more useful than they may, at first, appear.
