He will only appear on rainy days, so he never appears in the winter. Furthermore, it is only possible to buy this item '''once''' from the [[Old Mariner]].

The '''Mermaid's Pendant''' is an item used to propose [[marriage]] to a [[Villagers#Marriage Candidates|marriage candidate]] and can be purchased from the [[Old Mariner]] for {{Price|5000}}. The Old Mariner appears on the beach past the bridge that costs 300 [[wood]] to repair. He will appear between 6am – 7pm, and only on rainy days. He can appear in [[Winter]] if a [[Rain Totem]] is used, but does not appear during the [[Night Market]], even if it is raining.

Although one can obtain the '''Mermaid's Pendant''' only once from the [[Old Mariner]], it is possible to lose it without marrying any villager, for example by dying in the [[mines]] or selling the pendant. This results in the player being unable to marry any villager in the game. According to the developer [[ConcernedApe]] this is a glitch and will be patched in the next update.
