Dust Sprites are an enemy found in The Mines, from levels 40-79, in the frozen part of the mines. They are small creatures which often travel in packs. Dust Sprites are a great source of coal, as it is one of their most common drops. You need to kill 500 Dust Sprites for Monster Eradication Goals.

Behavior

Dust Sprites bounce in place and chirp while inactive. If they spot the player, dust sprites will bound after them, causing damage upon collision. Occasionally, they will break a rock that is in their way.

Strategy

Simply hit them. Cornering them against a wall will keep them from being knocked out of your melee range with repeated swinging. Because of their bouncy behaviour, it's easy for them to be closer than you expect.

Farming

Repeatedly traveling back and forth between floor 55 and 65 using the elevator in The Mines will randomly generate a new level each time, and causes all monsters to respawn. This allows the player to rapidly find levels with a high density of Dust Sprites. If you choose to take a ladder to the next floor, you can simply take the ladder back up from the following floor to return to the mine entrance and begin using the elevator again without needing to search for ladders down to further floors.

Trivia

  • The Dust Sprites are thought to be a reference to the Soot Sprites from Studio Ghibli's animated films - Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro.
