Aged Roe (+40%)
The Lava Eel is a fish that can be caught during all times and seasons in the Mines on the 100th floor and at the Volcano Caldera. It is the only fish that can spawn in lava.
In the Mines, the chances of hooking a Lava Eel depends on fishing level and equipment of the farmer, as well as the fishing zone of the fished tile. The base chance of hooking a Lava Eel is 1.8%, which is increased by 0.32% per Fishing Level and 0.08% per fishing zone. This is increased by a further 4% if a Curiosity Lure is equipped, and by 8% if Lava Eel Bait is equipped.[1] For example, with a Fishing Level of 10 and in fishing zone 5, the chance of hooking a Lava Eel is 5.4%. This increases to 9.4% with a Curiosity Lure equipped, to 13.4% with Lava Eel Bait equipped, and to 17.4% with both a Curiosity Lure and Lava Eel Bait equipped.
At the Volcano Caldera, a Lava Eel can only be hooked at Fishing level 7 or higher. Assuming that the 'Physics 101' painting was not caught, there is a 10% chance to potentially hook a Lava Eel, multiplied by the fishing zone of the fished tile, for a maximum of 50% in fishing zone 5. If this first chance succeeds, there is then a 5% base chance to successfully hook the fish, increased by 2% per Fishing Level, and reduced by 0.5% if in fishing zone 1. If Lava Eel Bait is equipped, both chances are multiplied by 1.66, and if the first attempt to hook a Lava Eel fails, there is a 99.75% chance for a second attempt to hook it (100% if the 'Physics 101' painting was already caught).[2] Assuming that the 'Physics 101' painting has already been caught, with a Fishing Level of 10 and in fishing zone 5, the overall chance of hooking a Lava Eel is 12.5%. This increases to 57% with Lava Eel Bait equipped. To achieve the maximum possible bite chance, the farmer must have a Fishing Level of 19[3] and Lava Eel Bait equipped, giving a 83.4% overall chance to hook a Lava Eel.[4] A Curiosity Lure has no effect if the farmer has a Fishing Level of 10 or higher.[5]
Of the non-legendary fish, it is the fish with the highest sell price and the second highest difficulty fish (after Octopus, tied with the Scorpion Carp).

Tailoring
Lava Eel is used in the spool of the Sewing Machine to create the 
Logo Cap. It can also be used as a red dye color at the dye pots in Emily's and Haley's house, located at 2 Willow Lane.
Fish Pond
Lava Eels can be placed in a Fish Pond, where they will reproduce every 5 days. The initial pond capacity is 1 fish, but the capacity can be increased to 10 by completing four quests. After the first quest is completed, the color of the pond water changes to red. The primary output is red Lava Eel Roe, but Gold Ore is possible starting at population 3 and several more valuable items are possible starting at population 8.

- ↑ See MineShaft::getFish in the game code. As the code used to fish in Level 100 of the Mines never invokes the default Fishing function, this means that Location and Fish data is unused, bypassing the requirement for Level 7 Fishing.

- 1.6: Added Cave Jelly to possible Fish Pond outputs. Dwarf now loves Lava Eel. Chance of catching it in The Mines now increased by 8% when using Lava Eel Bait. Spawn rates in the Forge significantly reduced. Now requires Fishing level 7 to hook in the Forge.
