Before proposing marriage, you need to earn 10 hearts of [[friendship]] with your intended partner, which requires you to give them a [[bouquet]].  You will also need to repair the bridge east of [[Elliott]]'s cabin (costs 300 [[wood]]) and [[Carpenter's Shop#House Upgrades|upgrade]] the [[farmhouse]] at least once. Also, this game allows same-sex marriage. If you do marry someone with the same gender as you, then you adopt a baby instead of "Having a baby."
