To attach bait to your fishing rod, open the Inventory screen, then left-click or right-click on the bait (left-click to select the stack, right-click to select one piece of bait), and then right-click on the fishing rod.

On an Xbox controller, open the inventory with B, then press A on the bait to select the whole stack (or X to pick up a single one), then X to attach to the rod.

Only one bait will be consumed per use. The remaining bait can be detached by right-clicking the rod in your inventory or pressing X on the Controller.

Effect

Using bait with your fishing rod reduces the delay before a nibble by 50%.

Tips

Levels 21-29 of the mines are generally the best source of bug meat for players focusing on fishing, as none of the monsters who drop it spawn further down.
