The Chicken is an animal in Stardew Valley. It comes in three varieties: White and Brown, and blue. It is obtained by either purchasing it from Marnie for data-sort-value="800">Gold.png800g or by putting an egg in an incubator. The egg will only hatch if there is room left in the coop. Upon purchase or hatching chickens can be named.

Care

Adult chickens will produce eggs every morning if fed. Feed chickens hay which can be purchased from Marnie. If you build a fence around the coop, plant grass starter (purchased from Pierre's shop), and make sure the small roll-up door on the front of the coop is open, your chickens will feed from the grass here on sunny days in the spring, summer, and fall.

Happier chickens may produce larger, more valuable eggs.

Produce

The Chicken will produce an Egg or Brown Egg every morning, though both of these sell for data-sort-value="40">Gold.png40g. Once sufficient friendship is reached, they can produce a Large Egg or Large Brown Egg which sells for data-sort-value="75">Gold.png75g.

Eggs can also be placed in the mayonnaise machine to produce mayonnaise, which sells for data-sort-value="150">Gold.png150g or data-sort-value="225">Gold.png225g depending on quality.

Blue Chickens

After seeing Shane's 8-heart event, each chicken you purchase from Marnie or hatch from a White or Brown egg has a 1/4 chance of being blue. Aside from appearance, the blue chickens are identical to regular white and brown chickens.

Selling

It is possible to sell Chickens. The amount of gold obtained for doing so is dependent on how many hearts the animal has. The more hearts; the higher amount of gold fetched for selling it. The amount of gold obtained for selling a maximum-heart Chicken is data-sort-value="1040">Gold.png1,040g.
