The Purple Mushroom is found via foraging in The Mines (starting at level 82), the Skull Cavern, from a tapped Mushroom Tree (rarely), or grown in the Mushroom Cave (rarely). It can also be received as a gift at the Feast of the Winter Star. Purple Mushrooms can also be found on the Forest Farm Map during the Fall.

The Purple Mushroom may be randomly requested during any season at the "Help Wanted" board outside Pierre's General Store for a reward of data-sort-value="750">750g and 150 Friendship points. Purple Mushroom will never be requested until you have reached level 40+ of The Mines.
