General information

Upon starting the game, you will be prompted to create your character, being able to choose hair/skin/eye/pants color, shirt style, name, farm name, pet preference, favorite thing, and their gender. There is also an option to randomize appearance, if you want to see some variety.

There are 24 skin tones, 32 hair styles, 20 accessories and 112 available shirts. Changing the character's gender doesn't lock any clothing or haircuts, meaning every single option is available for both genders.

You can either chose a cat or a dog. Depending on your choice, the game will provide you with a pet within the first two in-game weeks.

Colors can be changed with the help of sliders, which adjust the shade and brightness of a color.

Your "favourite thing" can be anything, although it is recommended to write down your favourite food (see Stardrop - includes minor spoilers). Entering a particular name here is one of the games Secrets.

The names of both your farm and your character are limited to 11 characters. You can use as many spaces as you wish to. It is also possible to use numbers. However, the game supports only Latin letters.

In-game consequences

The appearance and gender selected at the beginning of the game have no bearing on gameplay. The only difference between male and female characters is the pronouns characters use when referring to them. Also you won't be able to use the locker room of the opposite gender in the Spa.

Gender selection doesn't limit who you can romance or any other gameplay content. In a same-sex relationship you'll be able to adopt children. In a heterosexual marriage you'll either impregnate your wife if you play as a male, or get pregnant yourself, if you play as a female. The pregnancy will last 14 days and will not impair the mother's movement.

Character appearance is also not permanent. Players can unlock the ability to change their appearance in later game, however you cannot change your gender.

There is a wide variety of Status Effects the player can become affected by during play and a variety of Skills they can train.

Clothes (such as hats and boots) can be found, bought and won in several ways (for example during festivals or in the mines).

Personality

Upon starting the game, you are not able to chose perks, skill points or character traits.

Some in-game cutscenes and dialogs allow you to chose between several possible answers, thus allowing you to roleplay and form your characters' personality. Most of your choices, however, don't really have an impact on the story's outcome. Many responses, even if they have a negative character, won't lower the relationship level with other villagers.

You are free to chose whom to befriend and to marry. Some of your actions will cause a reaction, either a negative or a positive one.
