Skull Cavern Entrance

The Skull Cavern resides in a cave in the North-West corner of the Calico Desert. It is initially locked and requires the Skull Key to gain access. After entering the Cavern for the first time you get a quest from Mr. Qi to reach Level 25. The reward for completing this quest is 10,000g.

Progressing

Like the Mines, you advance to new floors by finding a ladder either dropped by a foe or under a rock. Additionally, holes can be found that allow the player to jump multiple levels at a time. Jump of 7 or greater deal damage to the player when jumping, and there is no way to tell how many levels you will fall until after jumping. Furthermore, jumps do not automatically start you near an exit ladder, meaning you may potentially be in an unsafe location with low health and no immediate way out. Unlike the Mines, the Cavern offers no save points or fast travel and seems to go on indefinitely.

It is currently unconfirmed what impact going to deeper levels has; anecdotally it seems to increase the appearance of rare materials like Iridium Ore.
