They can be opened by the [[Blacksmith]]. (Notably, they cannot be opened using a [[Geode Crusher]].) They can be earned by digging up [[Artifact Spot]]s, through [[Fishing#Treasure Chests|Fishing Treasure Chests]], by [[Mining]], as a reward from the [[Trout Derby]] and [[SquidFest]] festivals, and more. There is also a [[Golden Mystery Box|rare golden variant]] with a different (and more valuable) loot table.

Mystery Boxes can be cracked by [[Clint]] in the [[Blacksmith|Blacksmith shop]] for {{price|25}}, similar to [[Minerals#Geodes|Geode]]s. However, unlike Geodes, they cannot be broken open using a [[Geode Crusher]].
