There are three varieties of non-fruit bearing trees that grow on the farm and within Stardew Valley.

To chop down a tree, simply hit it with the axe until it falls. The direction of falling is indicated by where the player is standing and facing; it will fall away from the player in most cases. This is particularly important when cutting trees near water bodies, as all items that fall into water will disappear forever. Trees release items from the area where the upper part of the tree impacts the ground.
Rings such as [[Magnet Ring]] are very useful for chopping trees, as they allow the player to pick up wood in a wider radius reducing the need to cut obstacles to get to the fallen wood.
