To attach the bait to your rod, enter the inventory menu and click on the bait (left-click or right-click, depending on how many you want to pick up), and then right-click the rod. The bait you selected then disappears from view, but it remains associated with the rod. Exit the inventory menu to begin fishing. You will use one bait each time you cast. When (if) you use up all the selected bait, the game notifies you with a pop-up message. If you finish fishing without depleting your bait, it remains indefinitely (and invisibly) with the rod for next time. You may also enter the inventory menu again and right-click the rod to separate the bait and put it back in visible inventory.
