He specifies that Gus dishes cannot be predicted long term because they depend on the number of steps. I presume the GamingWithMaxJ modification was derived from this, as it may be the only rotating stock depending on steps. Even though, looking at the code, several other things depend on the same seed (built upon the number of steps), like at least: random friendship letters, daily luck and weather.
