Background
“ | “You’ve inherited your grandfather’s old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life.” |
Upon completing the Character Creation and the initial dialogue with Robin at the Bus Stop, this is the location you are transported to. Inherited from your grandpa after quitting your job at Joja Corporation, it is your duty to restore the land and make use of it.
Debris
Farm debris is a naturally regenerating element on The Farm. Creating fences and tilling is an effective method of stopping debris from forming in an area again. It is highly recommended that the player does not prevent all debris from forming again. Placing tree seeds in protected areas will cause the tree to not grow in that area.
Wooden
Wooden debris is split into 3 types. 2 of those being a primary resource for hardwood.
- Trees (Axe Required)
- Maple Tree
- Drops maple seeds and sap
- Oak Tree
- Drops acorns and sap
- Pine Tree
- Drops pine cones and sap
- Maple Tree
- Stumps (Copper Axe Required)
- Drops 2 hardwood
- Logs (Steel Axe Required)
- Drops 8 hardwood
Stone
The farm's stone debris is not a primary way of farming stone (see The Mines). Stone debris is split into 2 types, all dropping stone:
- Rock (Requires Pickaxe)
- Drops 1 stone
- Boulder (Requires Steel Pickaxe)
- Drops 10-15 stone
Unique Areas
There are approximately 3 unique areas on The Farm (not including player placeable landmarks, eg. Barn, The Coop, etc).
Greenhouse
The Greenhouse in the beginning is unusable, as the player seems to assume it was destroyed by a storm. Completing the Pantry section of the Community Center will cause the greenhouse to be restored, and be of use to the player. It features a 12x10 plot for crops, and a water trough to refill your Watering can. Any seeds from any season may be planted here, even during the winter, giving the player a large advantage. Buildings may not be placed in the greenhouse.

The Cave
Once Demetrius meets with you at your door, he asks you whether you want to have fruit bats in your cave or mushrooms. Picking fruit bats will cause a random fruit (crop or foraging) to be placed in your cave. Picking mushroom will cause 3 types of mushrooms to grow in your cave, Common Mushroom, Red Mushroom, and Purple Mushroom. See The Cave for more information.
Grandpa's Shrine
“ | “Wait for my return at the dawn of the 3rd year” |
Grandpa's shrine's origin is unknown, however, it is predicted that the player's grandpa created it himself. On the dawn of the 3rd year, the game is complete, and the player's grandpa evaluates your performance on the farm, thus ending the story. The player, if he or she wishes, can continue to play after the story is complete.
