Only the [[Iridium Rod]] can equip tackle. An Iridium Rod allows both tackle and [[bait]] to be used simultaneously.

To attach bait or tackle to an Iridium Rod, open the inventory screen, click on the tackle or bait (left-click or right-click, depending on how many that wants to be picked up), and then right-click on the rod.  To remove bait, right-click on the rod.  To remove tackle, first remove bait then right-click on the rod to remove the tackle.
