The day cycle is a period of 18 hours in game (or 9 minutes real time; 1 in-game hour is 43/45 seconds) from 6:00AM to 2:00AM. Upon reaching 2:00AM, the player character becomes tired and in need of sleep.If you stay up to 2:00AM then the player will pass out. If a player passes out they will wake up in bed, having been dragged there by first the town's doctor, and then after that a Joja member, who will also have taken some of the players money as a call out fee (details of this transaction will appear as a letter in the player's letter box).
