It does not yield seeds, but it will spread saplings like a regular tree. During [[Winter]], it will be reduced to a stem, but that stem may regrow in [[Spring]]. If chopped down though, the stem does not appear to regrow.

Obtaining the first Big Mushroom is a random event that can only happen in the fall. On each day of Fall there is a 5% chance of a spawning event being triggered. When triggered, the game engine will choose 10 farm files at random. If any of those ten tiles have a fully grown, untapped forest tree, then that tree will transform into a big mushroom.
