[[Winter Seeds]] are a [[Crafting#Seeds|Crafted]] seed that produces the wild plants that can be foraged during the winter seasonal cycle. Mature plants yield, at random, a [[Winter Root]], [[Crystal Fruit]], [[Snow Yam]], or [[Crocus]]. They are the only type of seed used to grow plants and food outdoors (without a [[Greenhouse]]) during the harsh winter.

[[Winter Seeds]] are a type of [[Crafting#Seeds|Crafted]] seed in [[Stardew Valley]]. The crafting recipe is labeled "Wild Seeds (Wi)", but when crafted, the result is "Winter Seeds."  Mature plants yield, at random, a [[Crocus]], [[Crystal Fruit]], [[Snow Yam]], or [[Winter Root]]. Winter Seeds are the only seed that can grow outdoors during [[Winter]].

Crafting with the four crops required produces 10 seeds, but placing [[Winter Root]] into [[Seed Maker]] produces 1 to 3 seeds.  The [[Seed Maker]] does not accept the other three Winter Foraging crops: [[Crystal Fruit]], [[Snow Yam]], and [[Crocus]].  With four crops, the [[Seed Maker]] can produce between 4 seeds minimum and 12 seeds maximum.  This makes crafting the superior source of Winter Seeds, especially since crafting takes no time, whereas the [[Seed Maker]] requires time.

Winter Seeds are one of the season-specific crafted wild seeds, along with [[Spring Seeds]], [[Summer Seeds]], and [[Fall Seeds]] that produce crops normally found as [[Foraging|forage]].  While Farming Skill normally increases the chance to grow a quality crop, Foraging Skill increases the chance to grow a quality crop from Winter Seeds.  

The [[Traveling Cart]] may sell only one seed for {{price|100}}.

A mature plant grown from a Winter Seed may leave untilled soil in its place, when harvested.  Any fertilizer used will be lost in this case.

It is one of the season-specific, wild seed packs, along with [[Spring Seeds]], [[Summer Seeds]], and [[Fall Seeds]].  Like these other [[Foraging|Forage]]-pack seeds, the Farming Skill can significantly boost your chance of getting a gold or silver quality crop, while the majority of items foraged from the wilderness will have no star at all, regardless of your [[Foraging]] skill.  Also like the other Wild Seed crops, on the day a plant from a winter seed is available for harvest, there is a chance that the tile will revert from a tilled state to a non-tilled state, requiring the player to use the [[Hoe]] again to make the area plantable.  This also means that whatever fertilizer was in the soil will need to be reapplied, making it against recommendation to use fertilizer on wild seeds.
