Clint's Gathering ore quests can be completed through inventory manipulation.  The full amount needed for the quest isn't actually necessary.  For example let's say Clint requests to inspect 20 copper ores and you have a stack of 5 ores in your inventory. Pull off by right clicking part of the stack of ores leaving at least one in your inventory. Click outside the inventory window (not the trashcan) to drop the ores on the ground, which will then be sucked back into your inventory which will then be counted towards your Gathering quest. Repeat this process until the quest completes, the game even provides a helpful 'ding' sound. For this example you could pull off 4 copper ores and drop them 5 times to complete the Gathering. To complete the quest you just have to talk to Clint, you don't have to hand him the ores.

'''Gathering quests''' can be completed using fewer than the required item, and/or by using items already in inventory before accepting the quest.  Note that these exploits do not work for '''Fishing quests'''.

 

*Cheat #1:  If you place the items in a chest and remove them one-by-one (by right-clicking), they will count towards the quest.  Even one item can be placed in a chest and removed repeatedly to satisfy the quest requirements.

If you already have the required amount of ore before accepting the quest, you can place it in a chest and remove it one-by-one (by right-clicking), and it will count towards the gathering quest.

*Cheat #2:  Separate part of a stack of the required item in inventory by right clicking on it, leaving at least one in each stack. Then select one stack, and click outside the inventory window (not on the trashcan) to drop one of the stacks on the ground.  It will be immediately taken back into inventory, and then be counted towards the quest. Repeat this process until the journal indicates that the required number of items have been gathered.
