The Keg produces drinks from Crops. Wheat produces Beer and Hops produce Pale Ale in approximately one day. Juice is produced from vegetables in about four days, and fruits produce wine in about six days. The actual time required to produce a product and their values are:

Keg Productivity

Until the very late game, most farmers will have far fewer kegs than available crops, so the most pertinent question is: what crop should be put into the keg to generate the greatest possible profit? (Money gained/time)

Artisan Goods produced by a keg will always be more valuable than the input materials. Their final value is not affected by the quality of the ingredient. So, compared to selling the raw crops, a keg will produce profit faster if normal quality (not silver or gold) crops are processed. However, sometimes a keg will still produce profit faster if processing an expensive gold quality crop than it would processing a less expensive normal quality crop.

For example, processing a silver quality Pumpkin is more profitable (per time spent) than processing a normal quality Red Cabbage, but processing a gold quality pumpkin is less profitable then either. Processing Starfruit always generates profit faster than Hops, regardless of crop quality. All cases are considered below.

The rate of productivity of a keg is: ([Sell Price of Artisan Good] - [Sell Price of Input Produce]) / [Processing Time][3]

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 1.3 For whatever reason, processing time calculates differently while sleeping versus being awake. 1 hour equals 60 minutes when awake but, equals 100 minutes when sleeping. So if you sleep a whole day, the machine would process 2400 mins. (100 x 24) If you work from 6:00AM till 12:00AM., and sleep 6 hours, the machine will process 1680 mins a day. (60 x 18 + 100 x 6) If you work from 6:00AM. till 2:00AM, and faint 4 hours, the machine will process 1600 mins a day. (60 x 20 + 100 x 4) For example, Preserves Jars need 4000 mins to work. If you sleep the whole process, you need to sleep 40 hours, less than 2 days. If you work 18 hours a day, it takes 2 days, 10 hours and 40 minutes.

  3. Caveat: presumably, Artisan Goods that complete processing during the night incur "wasted" time until morning, when the player can refill the Keg. This potentially undermines the practical productivity rates of Beer and Pale Ale, which require more frequent refills and are more likely to be delayed by finishing at night.
