You can pay Clint to break open [[Minerals#Geodes|geodes]] for you.  You'll find [[Minerals#Gems|Gems]] and [[Minerals#Geode Minerals|Minerals]] within, as well as common resources like [[Stone]], [[Clay]], and [[Coal]].

Note: If the sell price of the item inside the geode is {{price|75}} or less, you will hear a "clink" sound when it is broken open.  Otherwise, you will hear a short melody, and the item will sparkle.

[[Artifact Trove]]s can be purchased from the [[Desert Trader]] for 5 [[Omni Geode]]s. Clint will break these open like a geode, but they're guaranteed to contain an [[Artifacts|artifact]] instead of [[minerals]].
