Winter Seeds are a mix of seeds that produce the wild plants that can be foraged during the winter seasonal cycle. Mature plants yield, at random, a Winter Root, Crystal Fruit, Snow Yam, or Crocus. They are the only type of seed used to grow plants and food outdoors (without a Greenhouse) during the harsh winter.

Crafting with the four crops required produces 10 seeds, but placing Winter Root into Seed Maker produces 1 to 3 seeds. The Seed Maker does not accept the other three Winter Foraging crops: Crystal Fruit, Snow Yam, and Crocus. With four crops, the Seed Maker can produce between 4 seeds minimum and 12 seeds maximum. This makes crafting the superior source of Winter Seeds, especially since crafting takes no time, whereas the Seed Maker requires time.

The Traveling Cart may sell only one seed for data-sort-value="100">100g.

It is one of the season-specific, wild seed packs, along with Spring Seeds, Summer Seeds, and Fall Seeds. Like these other Forage-pack seeds, the Farming Skill can significantly boost your chance of getting a gold or silver quality crop, while the majority of items foraged from the wilderness will have no star at all, regardless of your Foraging skill. Also like the other Wild Seed crops, on the day a plant from a winter seed is available for harvest, there is a chance that the tile will revert from a tilled state to a non-tilled state, requiring the player to use the Hoe again to make the area plantable. This also means that whatever fertilizer was in the soil will need to be reapplied, making it against recommendation to use fertilizer on wild seeds.
