Note: This article is about the non-fruit trees. For Fruit Trees, see the Fruit Trees page.

Trees normally take 10 to 12 days to mature (note: non-fruit trees do not grow in winter season.) After that, they can be used for Tapping or wood. They can be felled using any Axe and yield Wood, Sap and after Foraging 1, their respective seed. A tree stump will remain afterwards that will drop fewer of the same items when cut.

Non-Fruit Bearing

There are three varieties of non-fruit bearing trees that grow on the farm and within Stardew Valley. These trees offer valuable wood when chopped down with an Axe and can be tapped for artisan goods.

To chop down a tree, simply hit it with the axe until it falls. The direction of falling is indicated by where the player is standing and facing; it will fall away from the player in most cases. This is particularly important when cutting trees near water bodies, as all items that fall into water will disappear forever. Trees release items from the area where the upper part of the tree impacts the ground.

Rings such as Magnet Ring are very useful for chopping trees, as they allow the player to pick up wood in a wider radius reducing the need to cut obstacles to get to the fallen wood.

Non-Fruit trees take 10 to 12 days to grow from being planted, as long as the tiles in a two tile radius remain clear.
Non-Fruit trees do not grow in winter season.
They will grow at a reduced rate if other objects occupy part of this area and will not grow beyond a sapling if there is another tree in any of the 8 adjacent squares.

Once fully grown, the surrounding area can be paved with no ill effects on the tree, although doing so will prevent seeds from being dropped. Trees will not sprout from their seeds in winter. With all conditions met, there's a 20% chance for a sapling to grow by one stage.

Contrary to popular beliefs, these trees do not regrow from a stump, a new seed must always be planted. This fact is confirmed by the author of the game Concerned Ape on Twitter.

Big Mushroom Tree

Big Mushrooms are a rare occurrence on the farm. They do not appear to be plantable, though they do spread like other trees, and yield Red Mushrooms when chopped down.

These trees can be tapped and will yield mushrooms over time.

Known Bugs

(Version 1.07): Planting a tree inside the Greenhouse on a tilled square will result in "planted seeds" that look similar to Parsnip's. Hovering above it shows a "pick up" animation, however the seeds simply disappear upon doing so. This bug does not occur when planting a tree on an untilled square.
