I planted a couple alongside some other seeds and forgot to water them (the sprinklers would water them the next day anyways so they'd only be behind a day), and my powdermelon seeds disappeared from the ground overnight leaving no trace. I replaced them with strawberries. I'll follow up if I get any more info, but it'll be awhile till I can get those seeds on this save. Game version 1.6.3
