Spawning

There is a persistent rumor that truffles can't spawn in long grass (the kind animals eat), or that pigs can't dig when standing there. Could we get confirmation either way, and have that info added to the page? -Jatopian (talk|contribs) 23:34, 25 July 2024 (UTC)

That information is on the Pig page. margotbean (talk) 03:36, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
Is it? On the Pig page I see the phrases "truffles cannot be produced on tiles that contain debris or other objects (not including crafted flooring or pathing)" and "it is standing on a free tile", but not clarification on whether grass counts as an "object" or a "free tile" for these purposes. Given that one can walk on grass, build on grass, toss objects onto grass, etc, and that the game strongly encourages having grass in a pig's enclosure, and that I keep running into arguments about the matter despite the existence of this wiki - it seems to me that more clarity would be useful. -Jatopian (talk|contribs) 05:13, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
Grass counts as an object. If you find a truffle in grass, it was spawned by a pig standing on a clear tile. It would be nice to double-check this in the v1.6.8 (and v1.6.9) code, which I can put on my "to do" list! But for now, truffles cannot normally spawn in grass and pigs can't spawn truffles when they are standing on grass. Myself, I've never found a truffle that wasn't on the border of grass and clear land, or on clear land outright. Hope this helps! margotbean (talk) 06:54, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
