Prismatic shard?

"The Rainbow Shell has a sprite that is completely blue, unlike the Prismatic Shard, which is rainbow-colored."
What does the sprite of the Rainbow Shell have to do with the sprite of the Prismatic Shard? I'm slightly confused.
