The Dangerous Mines is a tougher version of The Mines, it has tougher Monsters, Radioactive Ore, and etc. It replaces The Mines when the Shrine of Challenge is turned on or the quest "Danger In The Deep" is active.

Overview
The Mines usually have 120 floors (sometimes called levels) in The Mines. Like The Mines, the chance for ore spawning is affected by the floor number. The Mines usually have rocks, dirt patches, and Monsters, just like these mines. The Dangerous Mines and The Dangerous Skull Cavern are the only places to find Radioactive Ore. Ladders appear when rocks are broken which is affected by Luck or a 15% chance to spawn when a Monster has been killed, just like The Mines. The Mines entrance usually has a Minecart that goes to the Bus Stop, Pelican Town, and the Quarry.

Floors
The Dangerous Mines consists of 120 floors (sometimes called levels). These floors are divided into three sections, just like The Mines. floors (1-29) has an underwater theme, floors (41-69) has a forest theme, and floors (81-109) has a lava marron mushroom theme. The last 10 levels of each section features a darker shadow theme, a castle theme, and a darker crimson mineshaft theme. Like The Mines the floors for example, 1, 41 and 81 have the same layout, just like The Mines.

Infested Floors
Just like The Mines, infested floors randomly spawn throughout The Mines. They are either filled up with Slimes of a mix of Monsters. instead of green slime covering the floors, its pink slime instead, and slime infested floors may have other Monsters, not just Slimes.

Dungeon Floors
Just like The Mines, dungeon floors are unlocked after the Quarry has been unlocked, however, instead of Copper Slimes and Iron Slimes, the dangerous version of the slimes will spawn instead of the color of that section in The Dangerous Mines. Stacked slimes can spawn as well and Haunted Skulls will become Dangerous Haunted Skulls, just like them spawning on floors (71-79). Radioactive nodes can still spawn on these floors, just like other dangerous floors, and including the Dangerous Skull Cavern.

Strategy
Swarms
Like The Mines, infestation fogs randomly appear while exploring The Mines. When these fogs cover the screen, certain of the flying Monsters on that floor will spawn and attack The Player until the fog stops covering the screen. Consuming Oil of Garlic will prevent these from happening.

Staircases
If The Player has reached Mining skill level 2, Staircases can be crafted, allowing The Player to skip one floor at a time.

Bugs
* If Haunted Skulls keep spawning on a dungeon floor, they are not Dangerous Haunted Skulls.

* The preloaded ladder of floors, 12, 52, and 92, will still spawn if the floor is infested, making The Player saving time not killing the Monsters, or using a Staircase.
