Books, when read, give players permanent advantages, such as experience points (XP), or powers: abilities, knowledge, or quality-of-life upgrades like seeing sell prices. In some cases, a second reading gives additional or increased advantages.

Books can be obtained in a variety of ways. Some can be bought from the Bookseller. All books can be gifted to Penny as a loved gift.

Power Books

The 19 power books can give a player special powers. Any that the player has read are listed on the Special Items & Powers player tab for easy reference. The Well-Read Achievement is awarded to the player who reads all 19 power books.

	Jewels Of The Sea	Fishing treasure chests have a chance to yield roe.	Bought from the Bookseller for data-sort-value="20000">20,000g Can be obtained as a reward from treasure while fishing.
	Mapping Cave Systems	You get a 50% discount on Marlon's item retrieval service.	Found in a box in the back of the Adventurer's Guild Must slay 1000 monsters to open door.
	Monster Compendium	Monsters have a small chance to drop double loot.	Dropped from monsters in every situation
	Ol' Slitherlegs	You will now run a lot faster through grass and crops.	Bought from the Bookseller for data-sort-value="25000">25,000g
	Price Catalogue	You can now see the value of your items.	Bought from the Bookseller for data-sort-value="3000">3,000g (Can be bought multiple times)
	The Alleyway Buffet	You have a greater chance to find items in the trash.	Can be found in the gold trash can between the Blacksmith and the JojaMart, through a hidden hole in the fence. Additional copies can be purchased from the Bookseller for data-sort-value="20000">20,000g
	The Art O' Crabbing	Crab pots have a 25% chance to yield double.	Bought from the Bookseller for data-sort-value="20000">20,000g Obtained as an Iridium Tier reward on either day of the SquidFest if the player didn't already get it.
	The Diamond Hunter	All stones have a chance to drop a diamond when mined by hand.	Bought from the Dwarf in the Volcano Dungeon for 10 Diamond.
	Treasure Appraisal Guide	You will fetch a better price when selling artifacts.	Bought from the Bookseller for data-sort-value="20000">20,000g Can be found in Mystery Boxes and Artifact Troves
	Raccoon Journal	Weeds have a greater chance to yield mixed seeds.	Given as a reward for completing the second raccoon item quest. Can be traded from the Raccoon Wife's Shop for 999 Fiber.
	Way Of The Wind pt. 1	You run a little bit faster.	Bought from the Bookseller for data-sort-value="15000">15,000g

Skill Books

Reading the Queen Of Sauce Cookbook increases the player's proficiency in cooking by teaching all the Queen of Sauce recipes not yet known, regardless of their schedule of TV broadcast.

Reading the Book Of Stars gives 250 experience points in each of the skills, or if the player has already unlocked access to the Mastery Cave, then 1,250 Mastery points.

Reading each of the other 5 skill books grants the player 250 experience points in the specific associated skill, or if the player has already unlocked access to the Mastery Cave, then 250 Mastery points. Re-reading one of these 5 skill books gives the player 100 additional experience points in the associated skill or 100 mastery points.

Skill books do not apply toward any player Achievement.

	Queen Of Sauce Cookbook	Learn any Queen Of Sauce recipes that you don't already know.	Bought from the Bookseller for data-sort-value="50000">50,000g. All of the recipes will be learned, not just those that have already aired on the Queen of Sauce.
	Stardew Valley Almanac	Read this to gain some farming experience.	Bought from the Bookseller for data-sort-value="10000">10,000g Given as a prize from the prize machine in Lewis house
