Fences block players, mobs, farm animals, and the spread of grass.

All fences will have the same characteristics, but differ in durability while comparing to each material requirements.

Note: Your spouse is able to fix some of the broken-state fences daily before leaving the house.

There are three states of fence: fresh (will drop itself as item after demolishing), normal (will not drop itself as item after demolishing), and damaged (will not drop itself as item, and the model is changed to appear broken). These states do not apply to gates (they will always drop item). Fences will disappear entirely if left in damaged state for too long.

Gates can be used to pass through fences, and closed to keep livestock (and other ground-pathing entities) contained.
