Marriage to villagers can happen after you have reached best friend status (10 hearts) with the desired character. Marriage can happen to either gender.

To initiate a romantic relationship with a villager, you must first give them a special bouquet you can buy at Pierre's store. The bouquet is only sold once you reach 8 hearts with a villager. To become engaged, you must give the desired character a Mermaid's Pendant. The Mermaid's Pendant (5000g) can only be acquired by the Old Mariner on the beach after you've repaired the bridge (300 wood), upgraded your house at least once, and only on rainy and stormy days. You cannot obtain the pendant in the Winter since it does not rain. The wedding will take place 3 days after you propose and be handled by the person you are marrying. After the Marriage Ceremony is complete, your new partner will move into your farm.
