The Mermaid's Pendant is an item obtained from the Old Mariner for 
5,000g after you have reached 10 hearts with a romanceable villager, given them a bouquet, and have the first farmhouse upgrade. This pendant is used to marry a character. The Old Mariner will be at the beach past the bridge that costs 300 wood to build. He will only appear before 7pm, and only on rainy days. He will appear in Winter only if a Rain Totem is used.
If you are married, the Old Mariner will appear, but will not sell you a Mermaid's Pendant. If you get divorced, you can purchase another one, which can be given to any romanceable villager. If you use the Mermaid's Pendant on the day of purchase and return to the Old Mariner, you can also buy another one.
The Mermaid's Pendant cannot be sold.
Note: The Old Mariner who sells it calls it an "old amulet".
