Stardew Valley is an open-ended country-life RPG. You've inherited your grandfather's old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life. Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home? It won't be easy. Ever since Joja Corporation came to town, the old ways of life have all but disappeared. The community center, once the town's most vibrant hub of activity, now lies in shambles. But the valley seems full of opportunity. With a little dedication, you might just be the one to restore Stardew Valley to greatness!

History

Development

The game was developed entirely by ConcernedApe (Eric Barone) up to Stardew Valley 1.2.33, including all art, sound effects, and music. The game is programmed in C# using the Microsoft XNA framework (on Windows) and MonoGame (on Linux and MacOS). The art was drawn using Paint.NET, and the game's music and sound effects were composed in Propellerhead Software's Reason. It took four years for ConcernedApe to develop the first public release, during which he posted development updates on stardewvalley.blogspot.com (2012-2013) and the game's official website (2013-present). It was released to the public on February 26th, 2016.

For Stardew Valley 1.3 through 1.3.33, Tom Coxxon from Chucklefish developed the multiplayer code while ConcernedApe focused on the core gameplay and content changes.

The official updates on PC were ported to other platforms by specialised porting companies, specifically The Secret Police for mobile and Sickhead Games for console.

Publishers

Stardew Valley was initially published by London game studio Chucklefish, best known for developing the space sandbox-adventure game Starbound. Stardew Valley is now self-published by ConcernedApe on all platforms except mobile (PC, XBox One, Playstation 4, PS Vita as of 14 December 2018; Switch as of 01 October 2019). Chucklefish continues to publish Stardew Valley on Android and iOS.

Supported Platforms

Stardew Valley is available on PC (Linux, MacOS, and Windows), console (PS4, Xbox One, and Switch), and mobile (Android and iOS). A Wii U port was planned, but canceled in favor of the Nintendo Switch.
