The Fish Pond is a type of farm building purchasable from Robin at the Carpenter's Shop. It takes three days to build and occupies a 5x5 tile space.
The fish pond can hold and raise most types of fish, including Night Market Fish, Crab Pot Fish and beach forageables such as Sea Urchins and Coral. Each pond holds one type of fish, which will produce Roe. Fish may be retrieved by casting your fishing line into the Fish Pond. No fishing minigame is needed.
Attempting to throw a Legendary Fish into the pond yields a prompt that states the fish would not be happy there.
Attempting to throw a fish into a pond that already has a different type of fish yields a prompt that states the new fish would not be happy in this type of pond.
When first putting a fish in, the pond has a capacity of three fish, except for Sturgeon, which only allows one. After populating the pond, you receive quests from the fish when their pond is full. An exclamation point will appear in the center of the pond, indicating you have a quest waiting. Fulfilling a quest raises the capacity of the pond, which can continue up to a maximum capacity of 10 fish. The quests vary in difficulty depending on the rarity and type of fish.
Harvesting all the fish from a pond yields the fish and empties the pond. Selecting the “empty pond” option in the fish pond menu empties the pond but any fish inside are lost. Emptying a pond resets its capacity, removing any bonuses gained through quests.
Every fish in your pond converts to normal quality and will slowly reproduce as long as the pond is occupied by less than 10 fish. The exception is the Tiger Trout, which can give roe, but not reproduce.
Fishing Experience
Harvesting a fish pond (i.e., collecting an item from the chum bucket) grants Fishing XP according to the following equation:
10 + (0.4 × the sell price of the item)
Notes
- The Lava Eel, Super Cucumber, Slimejack, and Void Salmon change the color of the water upon completing the first quest.
