A Coffee Bean is both a crop and a plantable seed. Coffee Beans grow and mature 10 days after being planted (and every 2 days thereafter) in either Spring or Summer. Placing 5 Coffee Beans inside a Keg will produce Coffee.
They have a rare chance to drop from Dust Sprites (about 1%). They can also be purchased from the Traveling Cart for data-sort-value="2500">2,500g (25% chance) or data-sort-value="15"100–1,000g (1.26% chance).
When harvested, each plant gives four beans every two days, with a small random chance for more beans.
Basic Fertilizer and Quality Fertilizer only affect the first bean from every harvest, which means all extra Coffee Beans harvested from each bush will be regular quality. That makes Deluxe Speed-Gro an optimal fertilizer for this crop, as it gives one extra harvest before the Fall (assuming planting on day 1 of either spring or summer), increasing season earnings from Coffee Beans by roughly 10% compared to non-fertilized crops. Regular Speed-Gro is not recommended because it yields the same number of harvests as non-fertilized crops at a higher cost.
No Fertilizer/Quality Fertilizer - 9 harvests
Growth period = 10 days
18 days for harvest / 2 days between harvests = 9 harvests
46 days for harvest / 2 days between harvests = 23 harvests (spring and summer)
Speed-Gro - 9 harvests
Growth period = 9 days
19 days for harvest / 2 days between harvests = 9 harvests
47 days for harvest / 2 days between harvests = 23 harvests (spring and summer)
Deluxe Speed-Gro - 10 harvests
Growth period = 7.5 days (basically 8 days to grow)
20 days for harvest / 2 days between harvests = 10 harvests
48 days for harvest / 2 days between harvests = 24 harvests (spring and summer)
Coffee Beans may be planted in both Spring and Summer. There is no difference in their behavior in either season.
If a Coffee Bean plant (of any growth stage) is in the ground on the 28th of Spring, it will continue growing on the 1st of Summer as though nothing had changed. Fertilizer in the ground underneath a Coffee Bean plant on Spring 28 will not disappear on Summer 1.
Tiller Crops
Note that the game does not consider Coffee Bean to be a standard crop type. As a seed, its sale price does not benefit from the Tiller Profession.
In order to make Coffee, 5 Coffee Beans from one stack must be put into the Keg. It is not possible, for example, to place 3 Coffee Beans of silver quality and 2 of gold quality into a Keg, because the different quality levels are not stackable with each other, and the Keg will only accept 5 Coffee Beans at a time.
