For example, entering [645][499][163] will give an Iridium Sprinkler, Ancient Seeds, and a Legend. (This exploit also works with naming children and animals.). A maximum of 3 object ID numbers can be entered for each name.

*Usage tip 1:  If you don't have at least 3 empty spaces in your inventory, not all items will appear, so it's advisable to put the objects you can never get enough of (such as the $5000 Legend fish) first, and the items you'll need several of early on, but not an endless amount of (such as sprinklers) last. Using the above example:  [163][499][645]

*1a:  Getting people to say your name more often is a good reason to not skip cutscenes, and to talk to everyone during festivals.

*Usage tip 2:  Animals you buy from Marnie will only have their name spoken one time (when Marnie confirms the purchase) so this is a good opportunity to get those rare items you don't need in large quantities.

* 2a:  Also note that the animal name field has fewer characters allowed than the Player name field, so to get 3 items, one of them will need to be a 2-digit value object ID.

* 2b:  As noted in #1, make sure you have enough empty inventory slots before you go animal shopping, or the opportunity is wasted. ;)

*  Usage tip 3: Equipment like rings and weapons are not usable until their unlock conditions are met in the game, so spawning them with this exploit serves no purpose.

* Other valuable Object ID#s worth knowing:  The highest value base crop in the game is Sweet Gem Berry [417], grown from Rare Seed [347], however these cannot be developed further into jams or wines, not being considered a "fruit" by the game mechanics.  They grow only in Fall and must be replanted with each harvest.  Second highest crop (or #1 fruit) is Starfruit [268] grown from Starfruit Seeds [486], which can be used to make the highest value jams and wines in the game.  However, Starfruits can only be grown in summer (until you unlock the greenhouse) and must be replanted with each harvest.  Ancient Fruit [454] (the next most valuable) grown from Ancient Seeds [499].  They grow through all three warm seasons, continuously giving fruit once they finish their initial growth, which can be made into jams and wines.  They may be considered the most valuable crop by volume produced from a single plant over the course of a year.  (Reason enough to use their code in your Player name).

The Player refers to the playable character in Stardew Valley.

Character customization

The character creation screen.

The following options are available at the beginning of a new game:

  • Appearance - This includes 24 skin tones, 73 hairstyles, 112 shirts, 4 pants, and 20 accessories. All of them can be used by either gender, with the option to randomize appearance. This has no effect on gameplay, can be changed later, and can be augmented with additional shirts and pants, as well as hats, and boots.
  • Name / Farm Name - These are limited to most of the ASCII printable characters, which are spaces, uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and `~!@#$%^&*()-=+[{]}\|;:'",<.>/?_. Although " is in the valid ASCII printable character range, the textbox does not accept this character. Name and Farm Name are sometimes used in dialogues during gameplay. The player's name can be changed later, but not the farm name.
    • Both fields accept copied text (paste text using Ctrl + v).
    • The length of the name is determined by the total pixel width, and the allowed maximum is restricted to the width of the textbox.
    • The letter case used when the name is inputted will not change (e.g., if the name is inputted in all lowercase; the first letter will not be corrected to uppercase).
  • Animal Preference - This determines the type of pet that arrives in Spring of year 1. There are 10 options; five dogs, five cats.
  • Favorite Thing - This affects the text displayed after eating a Stardrop. The character limits are the same as the Name / Farm Name text boxes.
  • Gender - This has minor effects on gameplay and can be changed later.
    • Characters will use the appropriate pronoun in dialogue.
    • Restriction to the men's or women's spa entrance. (Note: Alex sometimes works out in the men's locker room.)
    • It is possible to marry an eligible NPC regardless of gender. In a different-gender marriage, the woman can become pregnant for 14 days (with no effect on speed or movement) and give birth to a child. In a same-gender marriage, children can be adopted.
    • Female characters will receive letters from Dad, while male characters will receive letters from Mom.

Notes

  • Entering certain terms as the Favorite Thing triggers an Easter egg.
  • There are no character traits in Stardew Valley.
  • Choices in cutscenes and dialogues don't significantly impact the story. They may increase or decrease friendship points, or change a future cutscene or dialogue slightly.
  • It is possible to befriend most NPCs and there are no mutually exclusive friendships. (Some NPCs like Gunther have no friendship status.)
  • While NPCs have a breathing animation, the player does not. Instead, the player's eyes blink.

Exploits

  • PC/Mobile only: naming the character using an internal object ID number in brackets will give the item that corresponds with the number whenever an NPC mentions the character by their name. For example, entering [645][499][163] will give an Iridium Sprinkler, Ancient Seeds, and a Legend. (This exploit also works with naming children and animals.). A maximum of 3 object ID numbers can be entered for each name.
