The Fossilized Tail is an item that can be obtained by using the Copper Pan in the river next to the Dig Site. Note: As far as I can tell, it can only be found after fixing the bridge to the Dig Site. Some mods allow teleportation to cross without fixing the bridge, but it is still necessary.
Donation
The Fossilized Tail can be donated as part of a Large Animal to the Island Field Office, which rewards 6 Golden Walnuts once the specimen is completed.

Tailoring
Fossilized Tail is used in the spool of a Sewing Machine to create the Skeleton Shirt.
