Prismatic Jelly and Ectoplasm

Hello, I'm pretty sure you can gift villagers prismatic jelly and ectoplasm during their respective special order quest, I swear I saw the gift icon pops up as you pass by any NPC (not just the wizard) with it in your hotbar, though I've already completed the quest so I can't get you a screenshot. You can definitely gift it using the spawn feature by naming your character or animal [875][876]. Infiaria (talk) 08:42, 9 January 2022 (UTC)

Hi Infiaria! Correct you are, I have seen the gift box icon over villagers' heads too, but when you click on them, the game pops up an "Incorrect person" message in the lower left of the screen. If you wear a Burglar's Ring and get 2 of the item (without ID spawning), the same thing happens after you complete the quest and before the extra item disappears. So, except for very specific circumstances, the game makes sure the item is not giftable.
I will add a trivia note to the pages, similar to the one on the Stardrop page, that indicates the item can be spawned and given as a universally hated gift. ok? Thanks for pointing this out. margotbean (talk) 14:18, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
Cheers, I didn't know that. Infiaria (talk) 14:31, 9 January 2022 (UTC)

*Bat Noises Intensify*

Heyo

I was playing Stardew Valley recently, and encountered a very unusual bug: I was going to fulfill a request for Lewis when, once I interacted with him, a bat sound effect played, and he jumped in surprise, then showed a hate bubble appear over his head. This continued to happen, regardless of what I did (Even shooting him with my master slingshot to see if I could trigger the dialogue for it! [It did not work, and just made me feel a little bad :/ ...]). Do you know anything about this? Fnaticlyric560 (talk) 21:30, 11 January 2022 (UTC)

You're wearing his pants. Atravita (talk) 22:08, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
Oh God, you're right! I didn't even realize that! I was yet to get any cloth in that save, so I spent the 99 stone to make the staircase into shorts! I forgot they have the same properties as the regular shorts... Thanks though! Fnaticlyric560 (talk) 17:24, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

Standardize hotfix format in version history

Hi! Hotfixes don't change the version number and they're usually small, so they're a bit awkward to show on Version History. We've historically handled them pretty inconsistently; for example:

  • 1.5.5+ shows each hotfix as a separate release with its own section like 1.5.6 (hotfix 2022-12-22).
  • 1.5.3 lists the hotfixes in the intro, then merges their changes into the main release with markers like ¹.
  • 1.5.1 says some fixes were deployed in three unversioned hotfixes, then merges their changes into the main release without distinguishing them.

I want to standardize how they're handled, but I'm not sure what's the best format to use. What do you think of one section per version number, with hotfixes listed at the bottom (see mockup)? —Pathoschild (talk) 23:41, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

Definitely the mockup! I dislike seeing "hotfix" in the headers and TOC in such a big font like v1.5.5; I do like v1.5.3, but if the little "1" or asterisk (or whatever marker we use to denote the hotfix) is accidentally deleted, then we may be searching page history for hours to reconcile it -- it's too fragile a system. I don't like losing info (like v1.5.1) at all.
The only thing I somewhat don't like about the mockup is that it violates the "newest version at the top" rule... but the hotfixes are unversioned, and the format makes sense within the version section.
So, there you have it, my vote is for the mockup 100%. :) margotbean (talk) 14:32, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
It was a bit harder to read in practice, so I tweaked the design to more clearly separate hotfixes from the main release. I migrated 1.5.3 through 1.5.6; how does that look? —Pathoschild (talk) 00:37, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
Hope you don't mind if I add my two cents. I like the new format in general, but I don't like that the dates of the hotfixes are buried in the middle/end of the section. If I look at the section for 1.5.6, it says, "Stardew Valley 1.5.6 was released on 21 December 2021." Unless I scroll down, I don't see that a hotfix was applied yesterday. I am misled into thinking I have the most recent version. So I would like the hotfixes to be acknowledged in that introductory sentence/paragraph. Unfortunately, doing that may force a change in how you introduce the hotfixes in the hotfix box. Zendowolf (talk) 15:47, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
I made a couple of formatting tweaks to the gray box around the hotfixes, what do you think? Other than those formatting tweaks, I think it looks great! I don't see a way around having the hotfixes at the bottom of the section, but the gray box makes them stand out more. The alternative would be to start the section with a sentence describing a hotfix without first discussing the major release, which doesn't really make sense to me. I await your feedback, and please let me know when I can copy the new template to the other languages. Thank you!! margotbean (talk) 17:00, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
Looks fine to me! —Pathoschild (talk) 17:11, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
I tend to agree, so I added a note saying when the last hotfix was on the most current version, although whether or not we want to track that going forward is another debate. KNakamura (talk) 17:19, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
So, now we have the problem of v1.5.6 not matching the other versions again. I think we should mention the hotfixes in the intro paragraph for all versions, or none. Otherwise, the whole topic of standardization is moot. margotbean (talk) 17:35, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
I've updated Template:MainLinks to the current version as of Jan. 18, so I've removed the "last hotfixed" sentence from Version History. Anyone who would like to add hotfix dates to the intro paragraphs for all versions is totally free to do so, I would not mind at all! Thank you, margotbean (talk) 17:57, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
I added a sentence to each version that has a hotfix box to indicate the dates. I did not include a leading zero for the day (if less than 10), then noticed that some dates do have a leading zero and others do not. One date is Month DD, YYYY instead of DD Month YYYY. Should that be consistent, and if so, how? Zendowolf (talk) 20:19, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
Thank you, Zendowolf! It looks great! And it solves everyone's concerns.
Yes, the dates should absolutely be consistent. As for format, it's totally your choice. I only have 3 suggestions: (1) Keep the name of the month and don't substitute a number, (2) keep the year last, and (3) don't introduce "th" or "rd" (as in 14th or 3rd). If you have no preference, I suppose I like DD Month YYYY. It matches our signatures on talk pages, and it's understandable by people who normally put day first as well as us weird Americans who normally put month before day. But, if you strongly prefer Month DD, YYYY or another variant, go for it. :) Thank you again!! margotbean (talk) 20:35, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
While I was applying those changes, I noticed another issue. It looks like hotfixes for 1.5 were listed under 1.5.1. It's confusing because the release notes for the hotfixes were added to the 1.5.1 announcement, but the dates listed for the hotfixes were before the release of 1.5.1. I'm pretty sure it was "here's 1.5.1 and by the way, here's what we changed in the hotfixes we applied to 1.5" (also included in 1.5.1). I decided to Be Bold and change it, but if I'm wrong you can revert me. Zendowolf (talk) 22:18, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
I'm fine with the 1.5/1.5.1 fix. We were previously using an almost-fully-consistent international date format (like 05 December 2021) though; what's the benefit of editing the entire page to drop the zero-padding, instead of fixing the inconsistent ones? —Pathoschild (talk) 23:38, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
I was trying to make them consistent. The non-padded ones are more prevalent nearer the top, so as I was scanning down deciding which way to go, they seemed pretty evenly split. Non-padded seems more human readable, so that's the way I went. Doesn't really matter to me as long as they're consistent and can be kept consistent. Zendowolf (talk) 08:33, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
I prefer zero-padded for consistency (especially when showing dates in a list), but I guess the wiki uses non-zero-padded by default so we can go with that. —Pathoschild (talk) 17:25, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

Drink Ginger ale?

Hey margotbean, I saw on the wiki home page discussion about the ginger island addition, and saw you said you are sick! I hope you feel better soon! (Try drinking ginger ale. It worked for me when I caught the flu 2 years back, and it works to remove negitive status effects in SDV so..?) Fnaticlyric560 (talk) 15:00, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

Omg being sick sucks. Get well soon! Youngbassoon370 (talk) 23:51, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

Well, thank you both very much! I was indeed sick, and I drank lots of ginger ale. I'm feeling better now, farming at almost 100%. ;) margotbean (talk) 17:00, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
Good to hear! Fnaticlyric560 (talk) 18:07, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
Glad to hear it! Ginger for what ails you! Hail ginger for the ginger hale! I'll bet a potent ginger candy could help clear the sinuses too. There's an idea for Ape for another cooking recipe! Giles (talk) 00:46, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

Farm Maps

I saw that you edited Farm Maps to remove the link that I had. I respectfully disagree about its removal - I think that if someone wanted to select which map they were to play on, and wanted to start with Cabins preplaced, that would be essential information from the get-go. I think personally if I didn't know about the existence of the page that I made, I would come to Farm Maps first and not find the information I would want. Fortunately Multiplayer has that information, but I still this this is a more important place to have it. Thank you for adding the categories and adjusting the wording on the other pages. Sraw (talk) 22:11, 31 January 2022 (UTC)

Hello Sraw! Thank you for your polite comment. You've given me something to think about. When I first came to the wiki (6 years ago), I was a player looking for information about one of the quests, and I couldn't find it. Of course, the information was there, but it wasn't where I expected it to be. Your case is something similar.
I'm still not sure it really makes sense for the Farm Maps page to link to Cabins, but if it helps a new player find the information, I don't mind a link. I'll add one at the top of the page. Please let me know if you think this new link helps players find crucial info, or if it should be embedded in the body of the page. Thank you again! margotbean (talk) 17:21, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
I think that design is perfect. Low distraction but people who are seeking will probably notice it. Thanks. Sraw (talk) 01:25, 2 February 2022 (UTC)

Traveling Cart Stock

Hello, new to the wiki and wanted to contribute without making a mess of things. I noticed the Traveling Cart page has been marked as a stub because it hasn't been updated to 1.5. I looked through the code and any new items added in 1.5 either fall outside the id range or were added to the list of items that are offlimits for sale. This is true for the rotating stock and the furniture. So I don't see any differences between the traveling cart between 1.4 and 1.5 and think that the stub should be removed. Squigs44 (talk) 21:57, 2 February 2022 (UTC)

Thank you! margotbean (talk) 15:57, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
Just updated a bunch of other stub items, working through them. If someone could take a look at the edits I made to the Carpenters Shop rotating stock and make the formatting look better, that would be great. I got all the info in there but my formatting skills are not great. Squigs44 (talk) 03:55, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
Wow, that was a lot of work, thank you!! The formatting seems fine, I don't think you gave yourself enough credit. I may tinker with it to see if it can be condensed, but everything is perfectly clear and readable as is. Many thanks again! margotbean (talk) 16:35, 5 February 2022 (UTC)

Penny hates glass shards

The glass shard page says penny likes glass shards. She actually hates them MeganAsh7 (talk) 14:18, 14 February 2022 (UTC)

Hello MeganAsh7! That is a change made in v1.5, which hasn't rolled out to mobile yet. If you check the page history, you can see the change listed there. margotbean (talk) 17:48, 14 February 2022 (UTC)

Fish page editing

idk if im doing this right lol, but i think the fish page should definitely have the collection, as the other pages with corresponding collections do (artifacts, minerals, items shipped, and cooking) and some of the page have similar lengths, so for consistency's sake they should be removed from all or added back to fish Drein (talk) 06:00, 19 February 2022 (UTC)

You definitely have a point, Drein! I just wonder if there would be mutiny if they were removed from the existing pages... Perhaps we should try it and find out? margotbean (talk) 16:47, 19 February 2022 (UTC)
I'm gonna RIOT!! >:( .....jk lol, it sounds like a good idea to keep things consistant. QtheConqueror (talk) 10:11, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
SSSSHHHH! I'm only halfway done removing them! ;) margotbean (talk) 18:34, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
When I am checking one collection, I may well check others, so I like having them all on the one page rather than hunting down a bunch of pages. Take me on as a co-conspirator? I won't tell. ;) Giles (talk) 18:43, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

Problematic User

Hey! I don't know if you're aware, but there's a user making problematic edits (specifically, Sincap4859). I noticed that the person made some weird edits and then undid them immediately, and I didn't actually pay much attention to it. However, I think this edit is extremely problematic and probably worth at least a warning. Even though he undid it later, it reads as two edits which aren't constructive and extremely unnecessary. Looking at his user contributions, there is nothing meaningful or constructive about them either. I just wanted to put this to your attention. Thanks. User314159 (talk) 15:55, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

Fishing: changing angle of bobber

Hello. Its mentioned that your unable to cast to left or right of yourself on android. I've accidently done it couple of times. Granted majority of the time the bobber bounces back. But just as I let go of cast I shift the analog stick to the left of right and I've had it couple times land to my left or right I don't know how I did it without bouncing back or what I did. Just wondering is something a miss here or Am I actually casting right and left. Dingo30 (talk) 20:38, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

That's a very interesting question. Unfortunately, I don't own the mobile version of the game, and haven't played on mobile since the original beta. So, I can't say what's going on. My best advice is to make a post on the Official Forums and see if other mobile players have experienced the same thing. I'm sorry that's the best I can do! If we discover that it's possible to reliably angle the cast on mobile, then we can add a note to the wiki. margotbean (talk) 23:18, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
Actually, I experienced the same thing, I think I pressed one of the invisible buttons, but really I have no clue. Hope this helps! Leah12 (talk) 16:03, 26 March 2022

Egg Festival - 18 eggs WR

Hi margotbean, Since you're an admin, can you update the Egg Festival page for these 18-egg videos? I can't add them since they contain external links.

    • www[.]youtube[.]com/watch?v=dqBbECJMICs (Tool-assisted)
    • www[.]youtube[.]com/watch?v=rqtJwkpK-UE (Human)

Infiaria (talk) 21:01, 6 March 2022 (UTC)

Hey Infiaria, people have tried to add that link (the human one) before, but the background music is so LOUD and OBNOXIOUS, I can't in good conscience add it to the page -- I just can't do that to unsuspecting wiki users. There's also no proof that 18 eggs is any kind of world record, as far as I can tell. The tool assisted video is a cheat, so not really appropriate. I'm sorry for the bad news. margotbean (talk) 21:37, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the response margotbean.
I can see why you don't want the human record one (the sound is horrifying) but I don't clearly see why the TAS one isn't allowed. TAS isn't "cheating" in the traditional sense—that would be if like, the speed was set artificially set higher, more eggs were added in, or mods were included. TAS represents the highest percentage of what is physically possible, and it is not only physically possible, but humanly possible: you just seen it in that obnoxious video.
You also say that there's no proof that 18 eggs is a world record... well, first of all, if 18 eggs isn't a world record, there should exist one with 19 eggs (or higher), right? And, secondly, the second video with 14 eggs is titled "EGG HUNT RECORD"—this is misleading, is it not? Someone pedantic like me could also say the commentary in that video is annoying and unnecessary. (The first video is nice though.)
If, at least, you still don't want to add the TAS video in, maybe include a Trivia section say that the theoretical maximum achievable eggs that can be collected in Vanilla Stardew Valley is 18? (Again, you might say there's no proof, but if TAS can't achieve 19, then it's impossible. Plus, you can always update it if it somehow is.)
Um, so finally. I have an image with the route with 18 eggs as shown in the video. Can that be added? Though it seems that uploading images is broken at the moment—don't know if it's just me. I'll try again tomorrow. Infiaria (talk) 22:54, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
Why don't we remove the youtube link to the 14 egg video and replace the 14 egg image with the 18 egg image? On that note, image uploading should be fixed, I have one of the server people looking into it, I'm just waiting for a response. I was unable to upload an image last week, and there was supposedly a fix put in. It might be that you're a new(er) user? I'll see what the server people say. Thanks, margotbean (talk) 02:10, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
Great, I have it uploaded now. Thanks for your work! Infiaria (talk) 07:15, 7 March 2022 (UTC)

Haley and Penny’s pages

Hi margotbean,

So, I was just looking at the best gifts section of Penny’s page, didn’t)t have any of her loved gifts, and said to myself ‘Oh, well, I’ll just give her a rabbit’s foot.’, forgetting that she was one of the exceptions to the universal loves. I think that in their pages, in the top box thing with quick information, the fact that the two of them hate rabbit’s foot/prismatic shard should be added, so that someone like me who only glances at their best gifts section on the top of the page, doesn’t go around giving Haley prismatic shards like everyone else. Could I add those exceptions to the blue box thingy?

Thanks! Leah12 (talk) 16:01, 26 March 2022

I'm sorry, that particular infobox doesn't have a parameter to add such info to it. Perhaps the List of All Gifts will help? I use it myself frequently. margotbean (talk) 03:36, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
Ok, I’ll check that out. Leah12 (talk) 10:21 27 March 2022

Shipping page

I was reading wiki and wanted to see what can be shipped and how much I’ll get but it’s not on the shipping page so, if I type a word pad of everything as I see on my screen, could I send it to you to put in that page and we can sort by price? I mean, I know I can visit each object's pages but, I was thinking to visit Shipping page to decide what I want to sell etc Timmy30274 (talk) 21:13, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

That would only make sense if you had 1 or more of each thing available to sell, and wanted to sell only the most expensive items. The better question is which items should you keep and why, and that info is listed on pages like Artisan Goods, Crafting, Cooking, and Quests. margotbean (talk) 23:19, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Elliott's Schedule

On Elliott's schedule at says on Thursdays and Saturdays if the player has 6+ hearts with Leah he will be in Pierre's shop when he leaves his house. According to the schedule page he *should* have been on the beach (on my file). He wasnt there. Ended up finding him in Pierre's shop (it was Thursday). It was only day 4 and I obviously did not have 6+ hearts with Leah. Would like to see this fixed if possible <3 BunnyisDreaming (talk) 17:38, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

I see what you're saying, but I think it's just confusing and not actually wrong. It says "Thursday, Friday" but "Friday and Sunday". So I think the intent for the former is that it applies to every Thursday but only on Friday if the player has 6+ hearts. I'm not sure the best way to change it so that it's more clear. It's that way in all four seasons. Maybe Margotbean has an idea (and can confirm my supposition). Zendowolf (talk) 01:55, 3 April 2022 (UTC)
I added a line break to make what Zendowolf was saying more clear. Hope this helps! margotbean (talk) 14:31, 3 April 2022 (UTC)

How do I add code references?

I can say with almost absolute certainty that the club's secondary attack cannot deal critical hits, and I tested this extensively in-game. However, I don't know how to view the game's code, and even if I did, I don't think there is a simple way to prove that an oversight was made. Is it really necessary to provide code references for something that I found out through simple observation? Baconfry39 (talk) 20:52, 6 April 2022 (UTC)

the function MeleeWeapon.triggerClubFunction just calls who.currentLocation.damageMonster. I don't see where the club's special is singled out when it comes to crits. Not sure though, damageMonster is kinda long :P Atravita (talk) 21:06, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
all we would need is for one person to come forward and say that they have dealt a critical hit with the club's special attack. this would be the easiest thing to disprove. but I have spent like 20 minutes smashing things with my 3x aquamarine club and have yet to see a single crit from the special attack. (I also don't see a code reference for the club's ability to deal multiple attacks by clicking repeatedly, despite the fact that anyone can try this out in-game.) Honestly I'm feeling frustrated that my good-faith edits are being reverted by someone who won't even entertain the possibility that the information I'm adding might actually be true. Baconfry39 (talk) 21:22, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
oh I see, MeleeWeapon.triggerClubFunction calls damageMonster with a critChance of 0. Margotbean, I can confirm this in the code. (for the record, I'm just using ILSpy to look at the dll. List of ingredients used in crafting

Hello! Thank you for redirecting me to the existing list of crafting materials! (i.e. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/User:Margotbean/IngredientsShortList) This is exactly what I was looking for but couldn't find. I'll do my best to learn more about wiki editing before I try for another big contribution! (Side question: Is there a beginner's guide somewhere with the guidelines for how to contribute to the wiki?)

So I was wondering ― Is there a reason why this list hasn't been added to the main wiki? I wasn't able to find it via the wiki search. (In fact, I wasn't even aware that user page resources like this existed.) The cooking page has the full list of ingredients on it, so it seemed appropriate to put a similar list on the main crafting page as well. I think it would be really helpful to have this somewhere with more visibility!

Xazuo (talk) 03:32, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello Xazuo! You may find some useful tips at Help:Editing. As for the list of ingredients, I never added it to the Crafting page because I simply didn't want to make the page longer. In addition, I find that crafting is something I do on day 1 of gameplay, whereas cooking takes longer. So, the list of ingredients isn't as helpful (by the time I think to look at it, I've already crafted several recipes). It could be added to the page, but I would definitely prefer the short version (a simple list) rather than the huge tables we have on the Cooking page. Welcome, and thanks for your question! margotbean (talk) 17:32, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

uhm how can you see my pages. SOMEHOW

Updating wiki pages to standardize formats

Sorrol (talk) 15:23, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi Margotbean,

Using the wiki on a frequent basis, I noticed inconsistencies between the formatting of pages regarding similar subjects. For instance the schedules of Emily and Gus are shown in a completely different format from Haley and Demetrius. I estimate it to be about 50% of the villagers in one format, and 50% in the other.

Now, I was thinking about standardizing these formats and making changes accordingly whenever I notice inconsistencies. Before I do so though, I figured I'd reach out to you (I was referred to you by PathosChild) to make sure this would be desired and not to step on anyone's toes, especially if these formats have already been considered.

If any other help is needed with the wiki, consider me more than open and willing to help! It seems like a lot of fun to me!

Cheers, Sorrol

Hello Sorrol! The villagers schedules' format was discussed (at length) when the wiki was new. Some villagers' schedules vary by season, and others don't, so the seasonal schedules have one format, and the rest have the other. The schedule dictates the format, in all 12 languages. If you find that the schedule details are inaccurate, however, you're welcome to update them!
You can also use the utility located at https://stardew.selbysaurus.me/
I can't vouch for its accuracy, but it has more interactive capabilities than the wiki allows for. Thanks, margotbean (talk) 17:36, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for that edit on my userpage

I would never have found the problem mysself! Also, what would you think of a strategy guide page about getting lots of money fast? It is related to pigs. A lot of pigs. And wine. And other stuff. Im still researching easy ways though. Easy fast ways. Those prismatic shards won't find themselves, so you gotta save some time to look for them! L10nM4st3r (talk) 10:00, 31 May 2022 (UTC)

You're welcome! I think a strategy guide such as that would be a good candidate for the forums' "Guides and Resources" section, located at https://forums.stardewvalley.net/forums/guides-resources.14/. Good luck! margotbean (talk) 17:38, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
Argh. I went to make an account, and saw that I need a email adress. I have none right now, and cant make one. Maybe one day. I'll write down my findings somewhere to save it for when I have an email address. Anyway, have a good day/evening. L10nM4st3r (talk) 18:18, 31 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi! The template was only used on one page because I was still collecting feedback on the format. The plan was to apply it throughout the modding documentation, everywhere we reference an executable, to solve a common source of confusion. —Pathoschild (talk) 05:18, 14 June 2022 (UTC)

OK, I can always undo the changes and undelete the template. Next time, please discuss template changes w/me before making them? Templates have to be copied into the other 11 languages, and translated. When they're in the beta state, that would be a good thing to let the admin know about. 👍 I'm going to create a category called "Modding Templates" where more experimentation can take place, please make use of modding template talk pages! margotbean (talk) 17:39, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
Sure, I can discuss any new templates before they're created. What do you want me to do with the talk pages?
The modding pages aren't actively translated into other languages though; the main page is only in 5 other languages, and they're all woefully incomplete or outdated. —Pathoschild (talk) 16:20, 15 June 2022 (UTC)
Use the talk pages to discuss changes to existing templates before they're made, and to gather feedback on newly created ones (you said you're collecting feedback on the format of "executable name"). If you're doing that mostly on discord, that's fine, but definitely use them before making changes to other templates. Let modders know they can comment on the wiki as well. Obviously a template won't have a talk page if we're in the discussion stage, and it's not yet created.
I know the other languages' modding sections are in a sorry state. Some of the contributing factors to that are the rapid number of changes made in English, the complexities of the pages, the html mixed with mediawiki syntax, the missing templates, and the frequent page name changes. I'd like to make it as easy as possible for them to translate technical jargon without stumbling over those kinds of issues. I feel awful for them when I see them try, and then give up because they just can't figure out why the page doesn't look right. I've tried to step in and help, and it's taken me way too long to figure it out myself at times. I would like that to change, and give them a fighting chance. After all, they never announce when they've decided to start translating modding pages, they just show up at any time.
Side note: do you know why the modding wiki is down, and is it coming back? margotbean (talk) 18:06, 15 June 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, modding is still very much in flux; things change much faster in modding than they do for the game itself. That should hopefully start to settle down after Stardew Valley 1.6, which will standardize a lot of the modding approaches. Creating other templates or using CSS styles to replace some of the HTML / wiki markup might help too.
Re the unofficial tutorial wiki, apparently there's an issue with the stardewmodding.wiki domain. You can use the underlying domain (stardewmodding.miraheze.org) until they get that sorted out. —Pathoschild (talk) 18:26, 15 June 2022 (UTC)

Edit war on Emily's page

In case you don't notice, there's somebody who insists on making changes to the page for Emily that have been reverted several times, including by you. Thanks for your attention. Zendowolf (talk) 05:21, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

Winter Fiber Seeds

Hello, I recently got the fiber seeds unlocked from Linus and wanted to see how long they took to grow. I saw on the wiki page for fiber seeds that they can be grown in winter but on the winter wiki page it doesn’t state that they can be grown in winter. I haven’t made it to winter yet and was wondering if they could be grown in winter. Thank you much! Varce (talk) 20:07, 29 June 2022 (UTC)

Yes, they can be grown in winter. User314159 (talk) 23:13, 29 June 2022 (UTC)

Oh Shoot

Whoops. Thanks for going back and adding the licensing and categories to the image files. I had forgotten to do that! Once again, thank you very much. Good day to you, Margotbean. PrismaticGlasses (talk) 15:01, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

No problem, it was a good thing, one of the original images was missing its license. I wouldn't have noticed otherwise. ;) margotbean (talk) 15:17, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

Tackle profitability

Hi, I see that for some reason you've been re-arranging the text I'm adding about tackle crafting profitability to put it way down at the bottom of the page, I'm going to move everything back to the way I wrote it on the tackle pages and ask that you please stop reverting it. There's no reason at all to move this text down to a Notes section at the bottom, which hides it (I didn't even notice that a more vague note already existed on Barbed Hook for example) and contradicts the way that all other similar information on this wiki is formatted. All profitable recipes on the wiki are formatted the exact same way as I am doing this and have been for years, and it's important information that should be easily visible and these pages are not very large or bloated. So I'd ask that you just let me add this information for the sake of consistency across the wiki if nothing else. - Emmeka (talk) 16:50, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

I'm afraid I've already explained my reasoning on your talk page. If the pages aren't large, there's no reason the information should be difficult to find in a "Notes" section. I've also asked for your understanding in my decision. So, I'm left with no choice but to let you know that repeatedly reverting edits made by wiki staff is grounds for temporary or permanent banning. We will have to agree to disagree. margotbean (talk) 16:53, 9 July 2022 (UTC)
If you're going to seriously whip out admin powers force this, then I expect you to come up with a solution to format this consistently across all articles and implement it. If you don't, you're just intervening in my attempt to add information to the wiki to force an arbitrary and inconsistent format, for no explicable reason. Threatening to ban me over this is an absurd overreach. I'm the one who's added most of the information about recipe profitability to this wiki over the years, and only now out of the blue years later you're taking issue with how I've been formatting it (a format I did not even create, but copied from earlier articles with the same information for the sake of consistency across the whole wiki), and only for tackle specifically! Or is there any actual reason you are insisting that tackle, and nothing else, have a completely different place in the article for this information than all other articles with similar information? - Emmeka (talk) 17:06, 9 July 2022 (UTC)
Please take a breath and calm down. I've already stated my reason for the format, so it isn't "inexplicable". Every page except cooking pages contain profit information in a separate section. A search for the term "profit" will show you the results.
A temporary or permanent ban is standard procedure for violating wiki rules, such as repeatedly edit-warring with an Admin, particularly after the Admin has given you an explanation. You may not like the explanation, and that's fine. Becoming upset and arguing will do you no good. margotbean (talk) 17:19, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

Animal Products Profitability

Hello,

I don't know if you know, but I replied about my opinions on where I think is the best place to place a link to Animal Products Profitability on each page. User314159 (talk) 03:12, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

Yes, I saw it, but haven't had time to implement it. I appreciate the opinion! If you want to implement the changes, please do so! Otherwise, it's on my "to do" list, near the top. margotbean (talk) 14:51, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
Alright, thanks! I currently pretty busy so I won't have much time to edit. I'll see if I can get to it though. User314159 (talk) 22:13, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
Now I'm beginning to think that for consistency's sake, we leave the pages as is. We don't have a link to Preserves Jar Productivity and Keg Productivity on every fruit & veg's page, nor should we. We have links to Animal Products Profitability on all the processed goods pages, in the "Artisan Goods" section. We have liks to keg & preserves jar productivity on pages like Wine and Juice, because the player has a choice of which equipment to use to process the raw ingredients. So I'm thinking the pages are fine. This occurs to me as I open all animal products and artisan goods pages in separate tabs, and Ctrl+Page Up/Down to compare them all quickly.
I would value your opinion on this! Thank you (again)! margotbean (talk) 14:39, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
Sorry for being really late on this. I agree, I think keeping the links consistent with other pages like Wine is a great idea. However, upon looking at the pages, it isn't the processed goods (such as Mayonnaise, Void Mayonnaise, and Dinosaur Mayonnaise) that have the "Artisan Goods" section but rather the raw goods (such as Egg, Dinosaur Egg, and Void Egg) which means that they are currently not consistent. For consistency's sake, we would have to remove those links from the latter group of pages and put them on the former group of pages. Which means more changes, but it will be worth it. User314159 (talk) 18:57, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
Hmmm... I like consistency, but I don't think removing the existing links is a good idea. The whole goal is to increase visibility of Animal Products Profitability. There is an argument to be made that animal products shouldn't be compared to other Artisan Goods that use Preserves Jar/Keg, because the decision to process or not process it depends on different factors (chiefly the Rancher Profession). margotbean (talk) 15:51, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

Image Rules

'Scuz me, Margotbean, but I need the rules for adding images/files to a user page relayed to me, as I cannot find any info on this. The help editing page has info on talk pages, but not user pages. (Btw, the image(s) that I would like to add are half Stardew Valley related, half not.) I don't really know who else to contact, so I came to you. PrismaticGlasses (talk) 19:15, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

No personal images, I'm afraid. Only images that will be used in a main page (not a user page) are allowed. Sorry! margotbean (talk) 14:11, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

Image guidelines

Hi there, I was just wondering if you had any advice regarding taking photos for the wiki. I had a quick look at Help:Editing but it didn't specify anything in particular. Specifically regarding File: Special Order board.png, would it be fine if I just took another one with the tool reticle removed or are there other changes you'd be looking for before such a file is uploaded? Thanks in advance. Techhead7890 (talk) 19:17, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

Removing the reticle and the snow would be good. Normally Spring images are best, but in this case I think Fall might be better, because it first shows up in Fall (for new games). Generally images taken from the sprite sheet are best, but not for this image. For larger screenshots, you can hit F4 to go into screenshot mode, or use the built-in screenshot button in the options menu. (Again, not needed for this image, but in general). Hope this helps! margotbean (talk) 20:23, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
Sounds good, thanks for the help! Techhead7890 (talk) 09:26, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
I've prepared some draft images that are in Spring (and somehow I remembered to time it so that the background flower petals weren't obscuring the photo subjects!). Let me know if they work for you. Techhead7890 (talk) 20:56, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
The 2nd one looks perfect. The first one has one problem: it contains the name of the store ("Pierre's"), which varies in the other languages. So that one won't work, unless you want to create up to 11 other variations of it. margotbean (talk) 14:27, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
Ahh, I see. Would a cropped version be preferable for the Help Wanted Board? Do you have any preference on the "!" request available icon being present or not for both cases? Techhead7890 (talk) 15:01, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
I honestly don't think we need the image at all. In looking at the Quests page, there is ample text under "List of Special Orders" for us to insert an image without adversely affecting the flow of the page. But the "Help Wanted Quests" section already has less text and a large image that continues into the "Achievements" section on wide screens. I also think describing the location of the "help wanted" board is sufficient, really. margotbean (talk) 15:18, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

┌──────────┘

For the Help Wanted file first: I feel like such a photo would give significantly more context to the information provided, which is generally my goal when editing, regardless if the location is described or not. This is because it let players know what to expect when they go looking for that object, so personally I disagree about the usefulness/necessity.

I also don't think that overflowing the section is that much of a deal, especially as it would only flow into the next subsection, which is still related to the Help Wanted Board and full of text that would just reflow around the image. In my editing opinion, I don't think that prose length should really dictate that sort of decision. Also, the draft image is also less than 250px square, which is about the half of most building infobox images, which when combined with the Valley map do currently overflow.

As an alternative, I think it might simply be possible to put the whole File:Pierres shop.png photo there as a reference, if that helps avoid issues with translations (that you mentioned earlier) and such. But I think in general it is useful to have a representation of the board, and/or an image of the board's location in some form. That being said, there was tremendous variety when looking up information on small objects in the game for precedent, but do let me know your thoughts about how to proceed there if at all.

As for the Special Order Board, which you already mentioned above (17 July) has sufficient general image quality: I'm assume that the ! icon isn't that important, so I'll just upload that one and insert it into the page (and a belated thanks for checking through it before). Techhead7890 (talk) 01:43, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

I haven't changed my mind. There is a link to Pierre's General Store in the first sentence of the section. The Special Orders board image looks great, though! margotbean (talk) 14:18, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Custom styles for modding namespace

Hi! I'm looking into simplifying markup on modding pages, to make them easier to edit and translate. One of the big offenders is the custom headers on Modding:Player Guide/Troubleshooting — they make the page much easier to reference for players (which is important), but they're a pain to edit. The markup is ugly, you can't edit them as sections, and the wiki security often blocks edits to the page (which makes things extra hard for translators copying the page).

I was thinking of adding a stylesheet to the |modding header template for the custom styles like that. Then the markup on the page will change from this:

<h1 style="border: 2px solid rgb(0, 116, 72); background: rgba(3, 160, 7, 0.1); padding: 1em; margin-bottom:0;">The basics</h1>

To just this:

The basics
Then we only need to copy the template styles once to each wiki, and all the modding pages are nice and simple to translate without baking styles into the markup. Any objections? —Pathoschild (talk) 21:16, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

I think moving CSS out of the page is a great idea! I'm not sure it will work with Modding:Player Guide/header, since it's not a template, though. You might have to create a new template to use a template stylesheet.
So, if you make Modding:Player Guide/header into a true template it will affect 4 other languages that have already been translated. That's a fair bit of work, I wouldn't mind help with copying changes to the other languages.
Also, I tried stripping out almost all the CSS from Modding:Player Guide/Troubleshooting, and it still gave me the "you've been blocked from the wiki" page error when editing the whole page. So, just changing the h1 styles won't solve all the problems with editing the page. I even discussed it with the server people, they said it's a cloudflare thing, and there is a test page that looks extremely simple, but if you try to edit it, you get the same big red "blocked" error page.
tl;dr, yes, but I think you'll need an actual template, and I wouldn't mind if you assisted in copying it to the other languages. 😁 margotbean (talk) 14:27, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, I narrowed it down to these four lines, where removing any one of them (including the border style) avoids the error. There's probably some heuristic pattern scores or something. So removing the inline CSS will help, but we might need a few other tweaks to fully fix it.
I'll set it up on the English wiki first, and when everything looks good I'll update the other wikis to match. —Pathoschild (talk) 20:09, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

Page for Fireworks

Since of Fireworks being an unobtainable item, I decided to make a page of this item. 9000 (talk) 9:00, 21 July 2022 (UTC)

Sorry 9000, but it's not really appropriate to create a page for an unobtainable item. The unobtainable weapons were added at the start of the wiki (possibly by ConcernedApe himself) when no one knew which weapons were unobtainable, otherwise the pages would be gone. margotbean (talk) 15:23, 21 July 2022 (UTC)

Extra cauliflower chance

I was just playing during Spring Y1, until I got two cauliflower from one tile, which confused me since there's no information about that in the cauliflower page and I don't know what the chances are So I'm asking someone to do the math and submit it to the page, Thanks (I have screenshot but where do I send it?) (RyanR (talk) 13:37, 30 July 2022 (UTC))

It's pretty uncommon and can happen for any crop (it's documented on one of the modding pages). Atravita (talk)
Ooo, so that what was happened and do this chance listed in a page elsewhere?
Anyway, I should've post this in the forum, rather than here. Sorry🙏🏻 RyanR (talk) 16:02, 30 July 2022 (UTC)
It's ok, thank you Atravita for the info, I have added a link to the modding page on the Crops page. margotbean (talk) 16:20, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

Now how about 4 potatoes of one tile? 😆 RyanR (talk) 18:52, 31 July 2022 (UTC)

An edit on my mind

I have an edit that I wanna make to the universal gifts, so I want to know if it’s to much and isn’t necessary because it’ll take a while and I don’t want to waste time just to have it deleted. It’s a section on each universal gift section with gifts that are fully universal, no exceptions. It’s something ive been thinking of doing and would be really helpful to me, so I really hope I can do it :) •saturn• (talk) 18:59, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

Hello saturn! I took the liberty of creating the page for you in your user space: User:•saturn•/Universals. You can edit it however you like, or mark it for deletion.
Unless you're looking to decrease friendship with everyone you meet in the game, the list is pretty short; 3 loved items, 3 liked items, and 3 neutral items. I don't see anything truly helpful to add to the Friendship page, to be honest. margotbean (talk) 16:17, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

Oh ok! I didn’t realize how many exceptions there really were, so I thought that it really would be helpful but it turns out not really. Thank you! •saturn• (talk) 17:09, 4 August 2022 (UTC)

New page discussion: Quality, Item Quality or Star Quality

Serves as a good entry page for readers looking for the effects on star quality for items (none/silver/gold/iridium). This page could cover some common features for quality items, including sell price, healing/restoration effects, friendship etc. All those values use identical formulas for different items, but we're lacking a page to describe these commonalities. For how quality items in different categories can be obtained, other pages could be linked (e.g. Crops, Fishing, Foraging). - IBugOne (talk) 07:14, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

I have composed a basic draft on my computer. If you approve of the idea I can submit it at any time. - IBugOne (talk) 09:30, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
Why don't you create the page in your user space so I can see what you're proposing? Thanks, margotbean (talk) 18:15, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
Didn't know "user space" was a thing! I've dumped my draft onto User:IBugOne/Item Quality so you can take a look. Thanks! - IBugOne (talk) 19:21, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
It's a nice looking page, but my objective honest feedback is that there's not enough unique info to justify a separate page. margotbean (talk) 18:31, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
I never imagined it could have too much unique info. As I opened with, it Serves as a good entry page, and is a perfect resource for those who wonder "What items can have star qualities?" or "What does the star on the item do?" IMO, these questions lack a good answer about quality in general, notably "What's the formulae for quality bonus?" Considering that even with only 4 items, Bait still justifies as a page. So does this game mechanism, for sure. - IBugOne (talk) 19:39, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
As per my rationale above, the draft page should now do well on what it's supposed to. It compiles most (if not all) commonalities of the quality star into one page, and links to other pages should a reader wants to learn more about specific categories. The only missing part would be a History section that's common to all pages. Shouldn't be hard to add one but I doubt the necessity, just like Getting Started doesn't need one, either. - IBugOne (talk) 19:35, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
I still don't see enough unique info to justify having its own page. It might work as a sort of disambiguation page (but not an actual disambiguation page), if it were trimmed down to the basics (4 qualities represented by 4 stars and a 0, 1, 2, or 4 internally), and then a list of links to the various items' quality sections. margotbean (talk) 17:28, 13 August 2022 (UTC)
I believe its content is mature. It contains exactly as much as necessary for a "summary"-like page, with basic intro towards each affected category, as well as link to specific sections that hold more details. I disagree that it should be trimmed down to the "bare minimum", which only makes it harder for readers to gather an overview about the mechanism in whole. - IBugOne (talk) 08:50, 14 August 2022 (UTC)

My mass changes to templates

Sorry for acting like a dumb head. I was trying to fix an icon alignment issue on Squid Ink Ravioli (see screenshots). It was caused by the template having extra CSS (namely, margin settings), but I couldn't find how to insert inline CSS, so I figured out I could make a way to insert multiple templates into that place. Due to how MediaWiki templates work, I had to modify multiple templates only to find a way. I have undone all unnecessary changes and left only Template:RecipeRow and Template:Infobox cooking modified, adding a duration2 parameter to allow the latter template to manage content correctly. I'd like to know the correct solution to this page layout issue should one be discovered in the future. - IBugOne (talk) 17:10, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

How stupid of me! I examined the same page in other languages looking for remaining issues (found the Portuguese and Russian versions with this issue still live) and only to note how the Spanish page solved it perfectly by inserting the image directly (without calling the template for a 2nd time). I'll promptly adopt that solution. - IBugOne (talk) 17:20, 9 August 2022 (UTC) (Update: Done reverting and adopting better solution. IBugOne (talk) 17:28, 9 August 2022 (UTC))
You forgot the rule that template changes need to be discussed before being made, since the changes have to be carried out in 11 other languages. Please remember this in the future! margotbean (talk) 18:12, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
Sorry about that. I didn't read Help:Editing before. I only took a glance at Stardew Valley Wiki:Admin noticeboard and found no relevant rules regarding editing templates. I'll keep that in mind in the future. Thank you for pointing out. - IBugOne (talk) 19:20, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
You've made so many contributions, it never occurred to me that you didn't know that rule. Perhaps we can do something to increase the visibility of it. Thanks for your understanding! margotbean (talk) 18:33, 10 August 2022 (UTC)

Did you mean to remove that non-user "user" page?

I'm taking about Fito, which serves as nonsense for a content page. That user probably should have created User:Fito instead. You might want to delete the page Fito (without a User: prefix). - IBugOne (talk) 07:16, 19 August 2022 (UTC)

Chocolate cake?

I see throughout the wiki you can only learn chocolate cake on odd number years via Queen of Sauce on the 14th of winter. As playing currently, I have stumbled upon Queen of Sauce chocolate cake recipe, 10th of Summer 2nd year!

I make this a big deal due to having to go through an entire year and a quarter to learn chocolate cake since it was the last recipe I needed and seen how it was obtained on the wiki. I hope this news helps! It was frustrating and seeing this change would save a lot of people time. Xeniks (talk) 03:28, 29 August 2022 (UTC)

Summer 10 is a Wednesday. The Queen of Sauce shows reruns every Wednesday, with priority given to recipes you haven't yet learned. This is spelled out on The Queen of Sauce page. I see it's not as clear on the Chocolate Cake page. Zendowolf (talk) 04:30, 29 August 2022 (UTC)

Rasmodius

Hi, I got a message from you. I did not seek to cause any trouble, nor did I want to overstep. I misunderstood how it all worked and thought it would go up for review but not change the page since I’m a new member. Asmodius/Asmodeus (both proper spellings) is a key figure in Judaic lore. The Ars Goetia was of course largely inspired by this. He’s also very connected to magicians, wizards in particular via King Solomon, whom he took the place of and posed as. He’s actually tied to a few other beliefs and cultures, even featuring in a French comedy by Alain-René Le Sage. He’s inspired many characters in many modern stories, and as you said, he is well know in demonology and demonolatry. I chose that reference because more people associate him with that source, largely due to his popularity in modern times rather than digging into his origins. Rasmodius probably being inspired by him was just a neat Easter egg. I’ve never posted on anything like this before, but I’m a big fan of cultural, religious, and historical representation. Thank you for your message and your time. I won’t make more edits, as I had actually only made the account because of my excitement. I appreciate your work on this app and the help you provide to fans of Stardew. Have a lovely day. Eya (talk) 02:32, 2 September 2022 (UTC)

Hello Eya! I didn't send a message per se, but I did revert the edit after googling "Asmodius". There are a lot of dark connotations associated with that particular entity, and I didn't want to introduce that element to the wiki unnecessarily. It's possible that ConcernedApe is familiar with the name, and even that it inspired the Wizard's name, but most of what I read was about the demon, and dealt with rather adult topics.
It's not a problem that you had an edit reverted, it doesn't mean you can't contribute to the wiki! But, yes, changes will go live on the web as soon as you hit that "Save changes" button. ;)
I wish you a pleasant day as well, and thanks for the message. margotbean (talk) 19:02, 2 September 2022 (UTC)

Skull cavern staircases

Hi. I tried to explain the Skull Cavern staircase technique without going too much into the details, because then it would quickly become a full paragraph or two, and that is probably too much for a page like that with bullet points. Not that easy to explain it in writing either, it's better to see it in action. The technique is explained here by the current world record holder in iridium ore count (he later somehow managed to gather 11.5k, but there isn't a video about that run as far as I know). Going that fast is incredibly difficult, especially over such a long time, but sometimes you get into a good rhythm, and I've been able to get quite a few "ticks" around 70 floors, and even a few 80s. I learnt about it in this thread on the forum, and on page 5 and 6 have written about the runs. Like I said, tried to write down info about this briefly so people can at least know about it, because I figured going into the gritty details of it would probably just get blanket reverted anyway. It doesn't truly work in MP btw, because the game (in-game clock) doesn't pause then. Pangaea (talk) 22:24, 2 September 2022 (UTC)

I see what happened now, thank you for the explanation.
I've been thinking about this for a day now, and I'm not sure how to summarize a speedrunning strategy, or even if it belongs on the wiki. I watched the video, and read most of the forum post, and neither one really does the technique justice. The video also mentions that it's an advanced technique, and the creator isn't going to explain it in the video. So, we have the forum post left. At least one person commented that they couldn't get the hang of it.
I'm not totally opposed to adding mentions of speedrunning strategies on the wiki, but I'm not sure how helpful this one really is. I can see that you have used it with great success, and want the same for others. I just don't know if that's realistic.
If you can find a good summary of the technique, with no rambling, no disclaimers (such as "I'm not going to explain this technique"), perhaps we can place a link to it on the wiki, labeled "advanced technique".
FYI, you can link to a specific comment in a forum post by right-clicking on the number of the post at the top right of it, and copying the link, rather than linking to the entire post.
Fair enough? margotbean (talk) 19:44, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for the feedback. I haven't thought about this as speedrunning tbh, as that is something they do right from the get-go to achieve a pretty specific goal in an absurdly short time. These deep dives is something that can be done on the side in an otherwise normal game. However, it's certainly pretty hardcore and using advanced techniques that aren't obvious or easy to pull off. It requires practice to do well. My thinking was that it would be good to have info about this on the wiki since going to the Skull Cavern is something that probably all players do, if only to try to reach floor 100 for Qi. Particularly as there already was a "strategy" section.
Godzilla_Freak explains the technique pretty well in that video, from around 1:40. It's all the other stuff he doesn't really go into, like jade production, needed equipment, how to use the slingshot and so forth. Nor that it's possible to change tools on the inventory screen (I didn't figure this out until much later, on my own). I'm not sure how to best put it down to words in a succinct yet understandable manner. Seeing it in action is easier, and that is when I truly understood it. Therefore, if it's possible to have the video as a reference, perhaps with a time stamp, that would be useful I think.
If you think this info would add value to the wiki, either on that page or somewhere else, I can try to write down something about it. I just got up, but felt I had to reply now since it's been several days . How brief would it have to be? Pangaea (talk) 07:21, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
Good morning! I was thinking something like:
Advanced technique: In singleplayer, the pause menu can be utilized to stop time while the level loads. Pressing "Escape" or "E" (by default) to bring up the menu immediately upon entering a level, and then closing it [when???] effectively stops the game clock, gaining valuable time while descending a large number of floors.
We need to answer the [when???] question, and then I don't think a reference link to a post or video is necessary. I still don't find the video you linked to all that helpful, and it is quite long. If there's no better source, I think we should just skip it.
That's pretty much all we need, I think. margotbean (talk) 17:39, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
Hmm, really? I thought he explained it quite well in those few minutes from 1:40-ish. After that he goes into descending very quickly, and later slingsthotting. But that little section of the video is what made me understand it at least.
  • The technique: Press "E" upon entering a new level. This brings up the inventory and pauses the in-game clock. The floor proceeds to fully load in while the game is effectively paused, and after the fading in from black is complete (usually 1-2 seconds, but probably depends on PC specs), one can unpause again by hitting "E". However, this next step is also crucial in descending fast. While the inventory is up, you hold down both mouse buttons while the mouse pointer hovers on a tile next to the farmer (I prefer left or right). This means that when you unpause the game, you will instantly place a ladder and go down, with next to no 'wasted' time. To save time in case that tile is occupied with e.g. a torch or stone, you can double-pause (E+E) when you unpause the game. That means that you instantly pause again if the tile you hover is invalid, therefore losing very little time. And if the tile is free, you instantly go down the stairs without re-pausing. On the next floor, you repeat the process. Do note, however, that if you pause too quickly, before the level has started to load/fade in, you miss the chance to pause and must wait until it is fully loaded in. Not a big deal if it happens rarely, but something to be aware of. That's why I say that the timing is crucial here, and is something users must get a feel for.
Perhaps this was too 'texty' and can be shortened down, but it's an advanced technique and not easy to explain briefly so that people get the whole gist of it. That's why I would recommend to refer to that video (or others if they exist) so people can see it in action, as well as get it explained by probably the best person in the world at this particular technique. Pangaea (talk) 10:06, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
What about: "While time still passes as levels in the skull cavern fade in and out, opening the inventory at the right point can pause time during these fade screens. However, this can be quite precise." And then insert a link? Atravita (talk) 12:29, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
Oh goodness, so we're talking about two techniques here: (1) stopping time during the loading process, and (2) clicking both mouse buttons to place a staircase during the time-pause. I did not get that we were demonstrating the time-pause strategy from the video, I got that the creator was using the time pause to do some bonus work (i.e., placing a staircase). So now we've added another layer of complexity. That's a bit too advanced to be really useful, I think. It falls in the same category as animation cancelling, something the wiki doesn't go into because it's tricky and not all that helpful to the majority of casual players. It seems to apply only to mouse/keyboard as well, there's no mention of using a controller. I think it's really something for reddit, discord, the forums, youtube, twitch, etc. but not so much for the wiki.
I will say this again, though, if the video creator (or anyone else) can create a clear, concise instructional video, I have no problem providing a very brief summary of the strat and then linking to the video (with appropriate disclaimers that the technique may be difficult). We're just not there yet, not with the video we have been referring to in our discussion. margotbean (talk) 22:12, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
Sorry to hear that :( Like I said earlier, it's not easy to explain this in a short sentence or two, because it involves several tiny steps. That's why it is better to see it in action, so people can easier connect the words to actions and consequences. I hoped to get this information onto the wiki so others can try their hand at it too, but I understand if it is deemed as too "heavy".
As an aside, I have never tried animation cancelling, and don't see how that has much value outside of actual speedruns, which from what I understand are measured on real-time instead of in-game time. Because animation basically stops the in-game clock anyway (e.g., NPCs and the clock stop), so normal playing doesn't have much if any benefit I think? I look at this stairs technique differently, because all the tools for it are there in a vanilla game, no need for external programs or macros or whatever. The short of it is you hit pause on floor load, hold down mouse buttons on unpause, and down you go. It does work on other platforms too btw, but apparently not as well as on PC, because it can be more tricky to place stairs quickly on other platforms. Don't have personal experience with that, because I only have the game on PC, but others on the forum said as much.
Perhaps you have made up your mind to not include it, but here is a different and shorter video about the technique. Personally I think Godzilla explained it better, but maybe this is more fitting anyway? In any case, if it isn't included here, I hope other players are able to stumble across it on the forum or other places it may be discussed. Going that deep has been a lot of fun for me, and breathed new life into the game with a new type of challenge. I merely wanted others to have the same chance, and figured the wiki has a lot more eyes on it than the forum or very specific threads on reddit. Pangaea (talk) 08:08, 9 September 2022 (UTC)

Maki Roll - To put on Fish page or not?

Hi Margotbean, I've only been here for half a year. I noticed that a few fish, when used in the Maki Roll, are profitable, even if you buy the rice. Where do you think I should put this- just on the Maki Roll page, or on both the Maki Roll page and the fish page? If I don't respond immediately, it's because either I'm still sleeping, I haven't checked my mail, or I'm busy. Have a good day! (For the next day) Jxy31 (talk) 00:40, 3 September 2022 (UTC) I'm in EST, that's why it says 00:39.

Hello Jxy31, the normal place to put profitability info is on the Maki Roll page and under Cooking#Profitable Recipes. (See the Bread page for example.) Are you sure the recipe is profitable, though? If you purchase rice at Pierre's, you pay data-sort-value="200">Gold.png200g, and the lowest selling fish is the periwinkle at data-sort-value="20">Gold.png20g, which makes you break even. (If you factor in seaweed at data-sort-value="20">Gold.png20g, you actually lose money.) I think you need to say the recipe is profitable when using rice from the mill, and fish worth data-sort-value="100">Gold.png100g or less. (220g - 20g for seaweed - 100g for rice). Am I looking at this wrong? margotbean (talk) 19:27, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
Yes, that makes sense. At this point, my logic is: Rice costs 200 g, Maki Roll sells for 220 g, Rice sells for 100 g, Seaweed sells 20 g apiece, any fish that sells for less than 100 g is barely profitable. You need to start with a lot of fish, seaweed, and at least 200 g for this plan to work. Should I bring this up? Jxy31 (talk) 00:44, 4 September 2022 (UTC) If you don't understand, don't worry, it's complicated and BARELY worth it and probably not worth the time.
I didn't realize it was a plan, simply a statement about profitability. Players are absolutely obsessed with min/maxing this game, so I think it's worth noting a profitable recipe, even if it has conditions (like using rice from the Mill and fish worth less than 100g). margotbean (talk) 18:57, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

Buffs not having full stops

Since of me playing and me being afflicted with the Monster Musk, Oil of Garlic, Putrid Ghost, Shadow Sniper, or Squid Ink Ravioli debuffs, the in-game description boxes do not have a full stop at the end of the sentence, which really bugs me because the Buffs page does have a full stop, the Buffs in-game do not have it. Feel free to check the game code and see if I am correct about this. 9000 (talk) 8:31, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

You are correct, please feel free to remove the periods from the Buffs page. margotbean (talk) 18:55, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

Radioactive Node spawn rate on dungeon levels

I was playing and me entering a dungeon level in The Dangerous Mines and me finding up to 4 Radioactive Nodes in a single dungeon level in The Dangerous Mines. Does this mean that Radioactive Ores are more common on dungeon levels? Because on a regular floor, I can never find 4 nodes on a single floor. Feel free to check the game code for research about this. 9000 (talk) 8:21, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

I have checked the game code, thinking that radioactive nodes must be more prevalent on lower floors, but no, they are randomly placed. They're just as likely to appear on any level. I think you got really lucky; sometimes the RNG gods do that. margotbean (talk) 17:41, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

Oil of Garlic preventing dungeon levels spawning

I was playing and I was drinking an Oil of Garlic, and before that I found a dungeon level in The Mines and then left The Mines. After that I drunk the Oil of Garlic, and then I returned to the floor that was a dungeon level before to find out it was not a dungeon level anymore. Is it because of it preventing enemies spawning after consuming it? Feel free to check the game code. 9000 (talk) 9:13, 9 September 2022 (UTC)

I will look into this, thank you for the message! I don't have time today, but I will put it at the top of my "to do" list! Thank you, margotbean (talk) 18:13, 9 September 2022 (UTC)
I can't find this in the game code. It's possible that Quarry floors are not persistent, and may disappear and/or reappear on a particular floor. This is what I'm going to investigate next. Unfortunately I don't have the v1.4 code handy, so looking for changes is impossible. margotbean (talk) 17:49, 10 September 2022 (UTC)
I have discovered that you are correct, Oil of Garlic prevents Quarry levels in the regular (non-dangerous) mines. I'm stepping through the code to find out the source. I'll update the relevant pages when I find it. margotbean (talk) 18:32, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
I managed to grab a copy of SV 1.4.5 using Depot Downloader and information gathered from SteamDB. It wasn't quite easy and straightforward so if you'd like I can send you Stardew Valley.exe so you can decompile on your own. I could also share my decompiled code via GitHub. Anything I can help? - IBugOne (talk) 19:37, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
I can get the history pretty easily, but I don't see where Oil of Garlic prevents Quarry levels?
This is all I can find for quarry levels.
           else if (this.mineLevel < 121 && r.NextDouble() < 0.044 && Utility.doesMasterPlayerHaveMailReceivedButNotMailForTomorrow("ccCraftsRoom") && Game1.MasterPlayer.hasOrWillReceiveMail("VisitedQuarryMine") && mapNumberToLoad % 40 > 1 && mapNumberToLoad % 5 != 0)
           {
               this.isQuarryArea = true;
               if (r.NextDouble() < 0.25)
               {
                   this.isMonsterArea = true;
               }
           }
Atravita (talk) 13:56, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
Thank you both for your help! I actually moved the discussion over to the Oil of Garlic talk page, so go over there to get caught up! :)
IBugOne -- thank you very much for your kind offer; I noticed that DepotDownloader wasn't working like it used to, and noticed a moderator (in the Subnautica Steam forums) say that Steam doesn't allow us to choose a game version by manifest ID anymore. I thought it was a lost cause, kudos to you for figuring it out!
Go ahead and get caught up on the Oil of Garlic talk page, and we'll see if comparing the 1.4 code with 1.5 code is the way to find the answers. I'm very deeply grateful for the offer of help! margotbean (talk) 18:18, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

Fishing Infograph

Hi, I made an infograph for fishing in 1.5, i was wondering if i could have it on the wiki somewhere? Phralupe (talk) 22:27, 16 September 2022 (UTC)

Hello Phralupe! Several others have attempted this feat, but they all went away, never to be heard from again. Congratulations on your achievement!
Can you post it on imgur or reddit, so I can take a look at it before giving my answer? The last infograph we had was pretty much a screenshot of a spreadsheet in 4000 x something resolution, which was way too big to be useful. It also had inaccuracies, and the author was unavailable for updates.
If you prefer, you can upload it to the wiki, but let me look it over before posting it to Fishing Strategy. Thanks very much! margotbean (talk) 18:24, 17 September 2022 (UTC)I
Ive posted it, but it wont let me add external links to this post, would it be possible to email it to you or do you have a discord by chance? Phralupe (talk) 20:29, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
I got the link from the spam filter. Allow me to say "WOW". You did it! It looks like you even used the Stardew font that someone posted to the forums. I am impressed. Please upload it! If you would like to add it to Fishing Strategy where the old one used to be (at the bottom), that would be fine too. Otherwise, I'll add it tomorrow. margotbean (talk) 23:46, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
Thank you! I appreciate it. It seems you have either my reddit or my email, so feel free to contact me if you notice some information i got wrong!Phralupe (talk) 00:16, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
I've posted the Infograph(s), feel free to edit them if there's a better way they could be formatted on the wiki, I'm pretty new to editing wikis myself haha.Phralupe (talk) 00:35, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
You did great! I don't have your email, but if someone notices an error, I'll put a note on your talk page on the wiki. If you don't respond, I'll try to find the external link in the spam filter, and contact you on reddit. ok? Really, well done!! margotbean (talk) 18:54, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
Alright, I've set up my page so anyone can add discussions I'm pretty sure. I'll do my best to keep an eye on my page, but if I dont respond feel free to contact me on reddit, if you lose the link I have the same username on here as my reddit username. Thank you again for the compliments and letting me have it on the page! It's a huge honor Phralupe (talk) 20:54, 18 September 2022 (UTC)

slingshot info missing

are you going to add the results of using a slingshot against other villagers/spouse like what happens if you talk to them right after you pelt them with slingshot or how much friendship you lose? plz reply on my talk page if its not to much trouble thank you ShadowFireFarm (talk) 04:34, 22 September 2022 (UTC)

It's on the Friendship page, under "Point system". You lose 30 friendship points for pelting an NPC with the slingshot. As far as I know, there is no special dialogue displayed afterward. margotbean (talk) 17:28, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
there is if you pelt you husband/wife the say: ow I cant believe you'd do that to me
I did it accidentally and felt so bad I reset the day ShadowFireFarm (talk) 15:01, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
I found the dialogue in the data files and confirmed it in the game code. Added as a trivia item to the Weapons page. margotbean (talk) 18:56, 23 September 2022 (UTC)

Automatic seasonal images

Hi! I saw you change seasonal images on the main page. If you're interested, you can make it happen automatically using code like this:

Pathoschild (talk) 03:29, 23 September 2022 (UTC)

Ha ha, that's awesome code! I love it. 🤩 The server ppl suggested something similar when the wiki changed URLs, but I told them the seasons change on a different day every year. Plus, it's kind of a ritual for me. I love that you just whipped up a simple function to do it automatically, though. 😎 margotbean (talk) 04:19, 23 September 2022 (UTC)

World Records page?

are you going to make a world record page? like most owls on a single farm or most non glitched prismatic shards on a single farm ShadowFireFarm (talk) 15:05, 23 September 2022 (UTC)

That wouldn't be consistent with an online encyclopedia of the game, as outlined in Help:Editing. If you haven't read that page, it would be a good idea to do so. margotbean (talk) 18:48, 23 September 2022 (UTC)

Changing the Villagerbox info

Would it be okay with you if I made a new template for the Content\Data\NPCDispositions (The file where Friends and Family are stored), and then change the Villagerbox template to read from that? It'd be easily translated since the game has the Dispositions saved for all the languages that the game supports.

Since NPC friends aren't something that change, and people keep griefing the pages and dictating who NPCs are friends with. The Spanish page for Emily still has Clint listed as a friend.

TheElm (talk) 20:06, 25 September 2022 (UTC)

That's been something I've been looking into doing myself, but there are problems. Linus is pretty objectively friends with Leo, but that's not in NPCDispositions.xnb. I believe there's dialogue saying Carolyn & Jodi are friends as well, again, that's not in NPCDispositions.xnb. So, it would involve changing the field from "Friends" to "Non-family who give gifting hints", which is a pretty terrible heading for an infobox. It would also require translation into 11 other languages. Not as simple as I would like. I'm still looking for other options...margotbean (talk) 21:33, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
Technically the wiki template of the NPCDispositions doesn't have to be an exact copy of the game version, but then it sort of becomes subjective I suppose. Just something so that it's partially lockable without locking entire pages (Just lock the template). Definitely better to keep editing open to the public, but seems a nuisance that people keep trying to make the same changes every few weeks.
It'd be like a template within a template, like in Template:Infobox_villager
TheElm (talk) 00:01, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
In the interest of "other options", I offer the following.
What about "Friends who give gift advice?" This would actually change it to be the advice givers rather than the people about whom advice is given, but isn't that actually more useful? I would be more likely to wonder (on Jodi's page, say), "Where can I find gift advice about Jodi?" than I am to wonder, "Who does Jodi give gift advice about?"
Do family members always give gift advice about each other? If so, perhaps the Family and Friends sections could be merged into "Gift advice from:". You could still leave the labels for family members and add the (Friend) label for everyone else.
I realize both of these proposals would result in Clint being on Emily's page. That was not what I set out to do. But ultimately, I want to make the Wiki as useful as possible and as easy to maintain as possible. I think ease of maintenance would happen no matter which "direction" you went, but reversing the direction makes it more useful (to the extent that knowing this is useful in the first place).
Of course, you could leave the "direction" the way it is with only a small modification to the changes I suggested. Zendowolf (talk) 11:00, 27 September 2022 (UTC)
The game code reads from index 9 of NPCDispositions.xnb. The field lists all family members and their relationship to the NPC. It also lists some non-family, with a blank space for relationship. In certain cases, the love interest (index 6) isn't listed in index 9, indicating the two people are friends, but give no gifting hints about each other (e.g., Alex & Haley, Elliott & Leah).
What I suggested earlier was basically "Friends who give gifting advice"... It's too long for an Infobox heading. "Gift advice from:" is better, but still requires translation into 11 other languages. We'd also be losing friendship info that isn't in index 9 of NPCDispositions.xnb. As I mentioned before, Leo & Linus are pretty objectively friends, as are Emily & Sandy, but none of that is listed in the data file. margotbean (talk) 18:14, 27 September 2022 (UTC)

Crab_Pot Numbers

Hey Margotbean,

I'm relatively new to Stardew Valley, but I've had heaps of fun going through the wiki and the corresponding code in the decompiled game code, my hobby in game is fishing. I was looking at just how good crab pots are, running the numbers, using the data provided in the wiki, and noticed a few inconsistencies and things missing I felt could add depth.

First - I think the numbers on the crab pot page, 'Gold Per Day' section, are incorrect. Only by a little (in the case of the freshwater figure, it's by a decimal amount), but incorrect.

Second - I think the page would do very well to expand on the intricacies of whether or not someone is a fisher, angler, and or turning low worth fish into sashimi. As it stands, the section implies mariners profit far more from crab pots, but fishers and anglers can do very well for themselves with them as well. I haven't done the math on how mariner affects earnings, but the math is relatively straightforward so I assume it's correct. But I wonder whether a table would do well in the section, something like

Ocean Gold Per Day
Skill(s) No cooking Cooking
None 49.77 62.17
Fisher 57.59 65.27
Angler 65.41 69.85
Mariner ??? 81.4

Let me know what you think. I'd be happy to run the numbers on the mariner profession as well to find the Gold/Day without sashimi.

Edit: I'm just now realising I should've posted this in the 'Talk: Crab Pot' page itself. Sorry about that, I'm a bit green with all this and it seemed logical to me to post this here as you're across the Crab Pot talk. Edit(2): I have no idea how communicating through this wiki actually works, as far as I can tell you can't even see my ID, for what it's worth my profile is https://stardewvalleywiki.com/User:Robo
--Robo (talk) 02:39, 29 September 2022

Hello Robo, and welcome to the wiki! To sign your posts (so I know who you are), just type four tildes at the end of your post. The wiki will automatically convert that into a proper signature once you save (or preview) the page.
I appreciate the amount of work you've put into this, but the bottom line is that it's a trivia item on the page, and even under the best circumstances, the gold per day isn't mind-blowing. Given that, I don't think expanding the section in great length is warranted. You should definitely make any corrections you feel are right, and explain them on the talk page.
Having said that, a table like the one you've created above instead of text would be fine, but all the calculations that went into it have to be explained on the talk page. ...Preferably in as concise, succinct, and short a manner as possible.
That brings us to the next problem: as a new user, you can't post external links. A link to a google doc would be far preferable to a screenshot of a spreadsheet. People want to be able to examine the cells for the underlying calculations. So, if you have posted the info to a google drive, I highly recommend linking to it, rather than reproducing it all on the talk page.
If you try to post a link, you'll get an error message, but I'll be able to see the link in the spam log, and I can add it to the page.
I hope this answers your question(s)! A bit of "yes" and a bit of "no, not so much, just a summary instead". Thanks, and please let me know if anything I've said has been unclear! margotbean (talk) 18:40, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the tip re signing :)
I understand, I'll get all the data lined up on the spreadsheet, add a few extra things as well and make it pleasant to look at so people unfamiliar can navigate it.
Thanks for your help Margotbean :)

Stardew Museum replacement image

Hello. I have managed to knock down the file size on my museum collection image to 237 KB by turning scaling down to 75% (same as the original) and using PNGGauntlet - assuming Wiki doesn't recompress PNGs. Am I allowed to upload it as a new version of the existing image, and if not, what would be the best way to go about it? Equo (talk) 01:49, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

Hello Equo! If it's important to you, then you can upload the image as a new version of the existing image. If you don't see any change in the image, wait up to 5 hours for the server to refresh. (I've repeatedly asked the server people to fix this wait time, but to no avail!) If you do see your image, then great! The wiki doesn't recompress .png images, but PNGGauntlet may cause issues with transparency. Wait until you see your new image properly, and then assess the transparency. If it looks good, you're done. If not... get back to me. I can try to compress it in Photoshop with 8-bit depth. OK? margotbean (talk) 01:59, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
It appears as though the image got updated, but it's cut off at the bottom for some reason, yet the thumbnail shows the full picture. Is this a temporary bug or is the image actually corrupted? Equo (talk) 05:44, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
Well, it's corrupted somewhere, but not on the wiki, and not in cloudflare. File:Hilltop Farm.png suffers from the same problem. I've been asking the server people to try to track down the cause of this error for months, but it's apparently more difficult than it seems. I will let them know about the new image, perhaps there is something they can do. I'm so sorry! margotbean (talk) 14:53, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

Dangerous Slimes dropping Dark Cowboy Hats

Since of us being familiar with The Dangerous Mines, the Slimes that spawned here when I was playing today decided to drop a Dark Cowboy Hat for me. Is this in the game code because I do not think the wiki says this. Feel free to jump into the game code for research about drop tables. 9000 (talk) 7:48, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

Under The Mines#Special Items, there is a 14% chance for any "special" monster in the dangerous mines (including slimes) to drop a random item from a Skull Cavern Treasure Room. The Dark Cowboy Hat is one of those items, so it is already on the wiki. margotbean (talk) 17:58, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

Debug Perfection

I’ve been trying to get perfection because I want to see the summit cutscene etc. I use smapi and I’ve tried to use Debug Perfection but it hasn’t worked saying something like “error item number already added, item number 0 tkey” I’ve tried to find solutions online and through this wiki but I haven’t found a solution. Stardude talk 10:57, 28 October (AEDT)

That's a question for the #modded-game-support channel on the Discord server. I'm afraid I really don't know much about most mods. margotbean (talk) 05:24, 28 October 2022 (UTC)

Abigail schedule

Hey, I noticed the undo you did on my edit, when waiting for Abigail go exit on wednesdays, I've noticed that she doesnt leave the store until 10:30 AM. Is the 10 AM in the schedule refering to when she exits her room?

Thanks, Ash VerySleepyAsh (talk) 23:31, 6 November 2022 (UTC)

Hiya Ash! Yes, that's exactly it, her schedule file specifies 10am, and that's the time she leaves her room on her way to the museum. margotbean (talk) 00:01, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

Catfish/Bundles

Hey, just following up on some changes that were made on the Catfish and Bundles page regarding Winter availability for the Catfish. Spiderkace (talk) 23:15, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

Hello Spiderkace! What's your question? margotbean (talk) 01:19, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
Not so much a question but just looking to discuss the changes. Game code indicates Catfish is available in Winter in Rivers and Farm Maps Spring, Fall, and Winter while raining. It is also available in Summer/Winter in the Secret Woods while Raining. I guess the piece I'm getting hung up on besides grammar or formatting in which, obviously you would have the final say, is the Witch's Hut which is available during all seasons regardless of weather (as it's "indoors") and a Rain Totem wouldn't be needed. Would it be better to just exclude the Witch's Hut from the Bundles page (as the Community Center has likely been completed by this point and/or a Catfish probably has been caught before the Witch's Hut)? I was trying to get around this with phrasing the topic slightly differently than the other fish given its... unique situations. I suppose this also applies to the Catfish page itself, not just Bundles.

Also, is there a reason the Bundles page doesn't have a TOC? ::Spiderkace (talk) 14:05, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
Do we know if indoor areas ignore the location context's weather? Cuz in my reading, it doesn't. Atravita (talk) 14:46, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
That is the question! No one should be changing the wiki until we have confirmed the information in-game (by stepping through the code or otherwise). Right now, I don't know if the Witch's Swamp follows weather outside for the purposes of fishing. I also haven't thoroughly tested the alternate farms' maps for fishing.
As we've seen before, reading the code itself can be misleading. Values can be assigned and never used. Values also get assigned, and then changed at the last minute in unexpected places (such as when drawing the popup dialog box).
So, we need to proceed with caution here.
The Bundles page has a TOC, it's at the top right of the page. ;) margotbean (talk) 17:09, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
Disregard Bundles TOC, I'm blind.
If the code isn't to be trusted, what is? If the code indicates one thing, and the game displays another, is that not a bug versus incorrect information? I'm cross-referencing data from Data\Locations, Data\Fish, and the game code at Farm.cs. I can understand the interior locations conundrum, but I'm only going down this rabbit hole because I found (what I thought) was missing or incorrect information with Sunfish locations, where two wiki pages stated one thing but a third indicated something else, which made me dig into the game code to find out what was really going on. Say the word and I'll stop but I'm spending a lot of time trying to find the correct information via the source itself.
Also, what did you mean about the map for Carp? Carp is correctly showing the Mountain Lake, are you saying it's not showing Bug Lair, Sewers, and Secret Woods as well? What is the limit for the map? Where is the map pulling its information from? What if we could do something like making a .png manually instead of pulling from wherever it pulls now to keep consistency with the other pages? about terraria/crossover edits

I’m sorry if I caused any trouble with the edits to Junimo and joja cola and I just wanted to clarify things about the confusion with the misunderstanding about Joja cola being in a different game first, and I hope you can forgive me Stardude (talk) 9:50, 14 November 2022 (UTC)

It's alright, Stardude, I just wanted to be sure that ConcernedApe gave his permission for Terraria to use his assets in their game. I searched online for some announcement or statement from him, and couldn't find one, so I was suspicious. It turns out all is well, and the edits are fine. Happy farming!! margotbean (talk) 11:40, 14 November 2022 (UTC)

Made a mistake editing Fiber Seeds

I noticed the Fiber Seeds wiki page didn't show the crafting section on the sidebar, so I edited it to add that back in, as I noticed you had hidden it. I then realized my comment on my changes wasn't following the nice format of saying what you changed, so I undid that change, and then just undid your initial change that made it hidden. I forgot to tag those last 2 as minor edits though, so I hope all of these shenanigans didn't cause too much trouble! Bananamath (talk) 19:05, 14 November 2022 (UTC)

No shenanigans and no trouble at all! Removing the source was my mistake, so thank you very much for fixing it! Any or all comments to fix a bad edit are fine. Thanks again! margotbean (talk) 19:34, 14 November 2022 (UTC)

Regarding Penny's Schedule

I changed Penny's schedule after personally watching her wait to leave her room until 11 twice on two separate tuesdays. Is it possible her tuesday schedule is different that the others and that's the cause for the discrepancy? Willblue18 (talk) 16:07, 19 November 2022 (UTC)

Hm... On the 9th and the 23rd (both Tuesdays) if you have less than 6 hearts of friendship with Sam, she goes into town at 11am, but she doesn't go to the museum. Is it possible that's what you witnessed? margotbean (talk) 16:28, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
It is possible, thank you. Willblue18 (talk) 15:02, 21 November 2022 (UTC)

Rotten Plant

hi! New here though I have been using it the past 2-3 weeks or so once I started playing Stardew Valley on the Xbox One. It’s not a big deal in the slightest but figured since I’ve been using the page so much I should join and didn’t think of contributing much of anything seeing how late in the game I’m joining in 😅 I’m not too sure how accurate this is all kept and all that but I placed the golden statue of Lewis in the center of town right in the middle of the red circle on the right side of it matter and later spawned a “Rotten Plant” I didn’t notice it said it can’t be just picked up and you had to use a tool and when I tried to just press x nothing happen but it shaked. I pressed it a few more time and nothing. But when I held down “x” it rapidly shook and after about 2-3 seconds it just popped out of the ground. I tried to screen record it but bye the time I made my account the 5min “record what happened” function couldn’t record far back enough to see it MushManMike (talk) 06:25, 22 December 2022

Hello Mike! Welcome to the wiki! We try to keep everything up-to-date and accurate, so I appreciate your comment. I'll change the appropriate page(s) to reflect that the Rotten Plant can be picked up without a tool, if the player is persistent. Thanks again! margotbean (talk) 16:06, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
