“If you're reading this, you must be in dire need of a change. The same thing happened to me, long ago. I'd lost sight of what mattered most in life... real connections with other people and nature. So I dropped everything and moved to the place I truly belong.”
— Grandpa's Letter

Grandpa is the first character players are introduced to. He writes a letter gifting the farmhouse, which prompts the player to move to Stardew Valley.

Grandpa's Ghost

The Player can uncover a note on Grandpa's Shrine at the far North-West corner of The Farm which reads that Grandpa will return at the start of the player's third year. His ghost returns to that spot on the first day of that year and assigns points based on certain milestones the player has reached.

Grandpa's Evaluation
The rating is given out of a total of 13 available points. A number of candles will be lit on Grandpa's Shrine based on the total points at the time of the evaluation.

If a rating of twelve or thirteen is achieved, lighting four candles, the player is gifted with the Statue of Perfection, a statue that grants a quantity of Iridium Ore daily.

There is no other in-game effect of the rating and play can continue indefinitely.

If unsatisfied with the score of the evaluation, a Diamond can be given to Grandpa's Shrine which will trigger the evaluation to occur again the following day.
