Revision as of 09:37, 9 February 2017
- This page is for crops that grow on tilled land. For fruit that grow on trees, see Fruit Trees.
Crops are plants that are grown from seeds to be harvested for the purpose of profit, food, or gifting. Generally, each crop is seasonal. When seasons change (after the 28th day), crops will wither and die (with the exception of Coffee Bean, Sunflower, Corn, Wheat, and Ancient Fruit). Crops include Fruits and Vegetables that can be processed into Jellies and Pickles via a Preserves Jar or Wine and Juice via a Keg.
The crops that must be shipped for the Polyculture achievement do not include flowers, fruit from fruit trees, forage(with the exception of grapes), ancient fruit or sweet gem berries. However, as of version 1.1, you also need to ship 15 coffee beans to unlock the achievement.
Basics
Grow Times
Grow times exclude the day the seeds were planted. Fertilizers and farming level upgrades are also not taken into account. Gold per day also follows these rules.
Examples:
- On the 24th of a month you could plant a 4-day-crop and harvest it on the 28th - morning of the 25th, morning of the 26th, morning of the 27th and morning of the 28th would equal 4.
- Poppies (7 days to harvest) planted continuously from day 1 are harvestable on the 8th, 15th, 22nd. The next harvest would be the 29th, so you can only replant them three times.
The player must water the crops every day for maximum growth rate, meaning if you don't water every day, the crops will grow slower. Crops can stay one day without water, otherwise they die.
Crows
Crops can be eaten by crows when there is no Scarecrow within range.
Trellis Crops
Some crops require a trellis, which is a wooden or metal bar. Once planted, they cannot be walked through.
The Grape Starter trellis does not change direction. Planting a vertical row of them will result in their trellis facing horizontally.
Giant Crops
Crops planted in a 3x3 pattern have a chance to become a "giant crop." A giant crop is a single 3x3 plant that yields twice the amount of items (18 instead of 9), and must be harvested with an axe.
Giant crops do not conform to a strict grid. For example, a 3x4 area will have two chances for a giant crop to grow.
The crop will not appear giant until it is ready to be harvested. You can leave mature crops planted and they may fuse to become giant in the following days.
Three plants are able to become giant crops - Template:Item2, Template:Item2, Template:Item2.

Crop Quality
The quality of crops comes in three levels: regular, silver, and gold. Quality differences first show themselves when a crop is harvested. Normally, harvested crops are almost all of regular quality, although a few may turn out at higher levels. The average quality can be increased by planting seeds into fertilized soil. If a Seed Maker turns a higher-quality crop into seeds, however, the seeds are not more likely to bear a larger proportion of high-quality crops when grown. (needs verification)
Premium quality commands higher prices when crops are sold, and delivers greater energy and health benefits when crops are eaten directly or used as ingredients in cooked foods. If given as a gift to an NPC who likes or loves it, the gift also provides a higher number of friendship points.

Winter
There are no crops that can grow in winter, although Winter Wild Seeds can still be planted and harvested (which would give foraged plants).
Special
Mixed Seeds
“ | “There's a little bit of everything here. Plant them and see what grows!” |
Mixed Seeds are a type of seed that can be planted in any season, except Winter, to grow into a random crop specific to that season.
Mixed Seeds can be obtained when cutting grass with a scythe, by digging up dirt or sand with a hoe, or from a Seed Maker.
Wild Seeds
Wild Seeds can be crafted out of foraged plants once you reach the appropriate foraging level (Spring at level 1, Summer at level 4, Fall at level 6, Winter at level 7). Each recipe will produce 10 seed packets. When planted, wild seeds will randomly grow into one of that season's foraged plants. Regardless of what ends up growing, wild seeds all take the same amount of time to grow to maturity (7 days, not counting the day planted).
Sweet Gem Berry
Grows in Fall. Seeds can also be found for sale at the Traveling Cart. Can be gifted to Old Master Cannoli in the Secret Woods in exchange for a Stardrop.
