Furniture can be purchased from Robin at the Carpenter's Shop or from the Traveling Cart merchant. Both shops offer a random selection of furniture each day they are open. The cost of furniture at the Traveling Cart is random, but is always between data-sort-value="furniture"250–2,500g. Prices at the Carpenter's Shop do not vary.
Some furniture can be obtained only by donating items to the Museum, purchased at Festivals, the Casino, or from JojaMart. These exceptions are listed in the tables below.
After the first Farmhouse upgrade, Robin also offers the Furniture Catalogue for sale at the Carpenter's Shop. Once placed, "using" the furniture catalogue allows you to purchase furniture items for data-sort-value="0">0g in unlimited quantity.
Furniture will display a green square on tiles where it can be placed. The tile will turn red if the furniture cannot be placed. Right-clicking on some furniture while selected will rotate it. Other furniture will be placed by right-clicking while selected. Some furniture can be picked up and moved by left-clicking; other furniture requires a tool to remove it once it is placed. As of v1.2, several items that previously required a tool can be picked up by repeated left-clicking.
Any piece of furniture that blocks movement will be destroyed and irrecoverable if an NPC walks through that tile. This affects any object placed in town, such as lamp posts, chests, or furnaces. Be careful where placing objects if you want to use the space in town, or want to decorate the town. This does not affect placed objects that can be pathed through, such as paths and floor tiles.
As NPCs are on a set schedule, there are tiles in town that no NPC will ever walk through, and those tiles are safe to place objects on; an example is all the tiles past the mine entrance, as no NPC ever crosses that bridge. Another is the small fenced in area to the immediate left of the Community Center.
Furniture cannot be sold through the Shipping Box or to any merchant/shop in Stardew Valley.
