Slimes attack in two ways. Either they bounce slowly at you, or they "charge" to jump at you from a distance. The charging animation resembles the slime becoming almost flat to the ground. If there is an obstacle in the way, the charge jump will cause them to bounce off the object (sometimes multiple times if they're in a tight spot). Occasionally slimes will enter a state of rage after being attacked, causing them to move significantly faster.

This article is about the monster. For the drop, see Slime.

Slimes are enemies that can be found in various locations, including The Mines and the Secret Woods. They come in five different variations, all based on the same sprite and code (a color hue is added to the grey sprite shown in the portrait). You need to kill 1000 Slimes for Monster Eradication Goals. All Slimes in the game count towards this goal (e.g. in the Secret Woods). Slimes can be raised in Slime Hutches, or raised outdoors through the use of a Slime Incubator.

Attacks

Slimes attack in two ways. Either they bounce slowly at you, or they "charge" to jump at you from a distance. The charging animation resembles the slime becoming almost flat to the ground. If there is an obstacle in the way, the charge jump will cause them to bounce off the object (sometimes multiple times if they're in a tight spot). Occasionally slimes will enter a state of rage after being attacked, causing them to move significantly faster and have red eyes.

Strategy

When a slime is hit, it will be knocked back a short distance, out of range of melee weapons. The best strategy to kill slimes is to quickly reach them to striking distance to prevent their charge attack, and corner them against a wall or, ideally, in a corner (of walls, rocks, or both). Both the charged and regular attacks may be avoided by using a defensive move (such as the block of the regular sword). Timing a block with a sword well can allow the player to get a decent amount of damage in. Otherwise, offense is the best defense.

The Slime Charmer Ring provides a reasonable protection against Slimes. Wearing this ring prevents all damage from Slimes (except Big Slimes), but not the Slimed Buff.

Big Slimes

Big Slimes have the same attack behavior as the smaller slimes. When killed they'll often split into a number of smaller slimes which will attack the player.

Big Slimes can be of any colour, although they are most common as Purple Slimes in the Skull Cavern.

Cute Slimes

At random, one slime might be considered "cute". A cute slime boasts an antenna with a small yellow star. It has 25% more health over the base HP and will do 1pt more damage per attack to the player. It has a chance to drop a rare item.

Unique Slimes

It would seem that there are unique variations of slimes that appear VERY RARELY in low levels of the mines and past the 50th floor of the skull mines (I'm guessing) sadly I have no screenshots but these are brief descriptions of the slimes I have encountered,

Mines Floor 118 - Color was black, antenna looked like a bomb fuse, upon death it exploded with about the same radius as a cherry bomb, estimated health - about 800

Skull Mines Floor 62 - Dark yellow slime, no antenna, gave off light, multiplied, every time it would charge it would split into 3, the split slimes retained that ability, very high damage, unknown health (it killed me)

Skull Mines Floor 59 - Red, looked like the lava from Mines floor 100, no antenna, Immortal? I couldn't damage it (similar to the red beetles), does about 40 damage a hit to my 6 defense
