Preserve Jar consume less time than [[Keg]], but will usually yield less profit. However the low-value, high-yield crops like blackberries, green beans and corn are actually more profitable in the preserve jar than in the keg, as well as being much faster to process. As an example, corn juice (keg) is worth 113 gold, but corn pickles are worth 150 gold. Salmonberry wine is only worth 15 gold, but Salmonberry jelly is worth 60 gold.

The [[Preserves Jar]] increases the profit of a crop using the following equation: 50g + (2 * base value of crop), while the [[Keg]] multiplies the base value of [[fruits]] by 3, and [[vegetables]] by 2.25. Because of this, low-value high-yield crops like corn or tomatoes are more valuable in the preserves jar. The keg, on the other hand, favors crops with a much higher base value, such as [[Ancient Fruit]] or [[Melon]]s. Below is a list of crops that are more beneficial to be put in the preserves jar.

It should be noted that these calculations only involve the value gained in terms of max profit; if looking at profit per day based on the time required, it is always more beneficial to use a preserves jar, on the highest value item possible (2 days to multiply value by 2x). See [https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/comments/4a6jv2/artisan_goods_price_calculator/ this reddit post] for more details (Updated as of 22/08/16)

The Preserves Jar is a piece of equipment used to make Artisan Goods. It takes a single fruit or vegetable and converts them into Jellies and Pickles, respectively.
Preserves Jars consume less time than Kegs, but will usually yield less profit. However, low-value, high-yield crops like blackberries, green beans and corn are actually more profitable in the preserves jar than in the keg, as well as being much faster to process. As an example, corn juice, which is made in the keg, is worth data-sort-value="113">Gold.png113g, but corn pickles, which are made in the preserves jar, are worth data-sort-value="150">Gold.png150g. Salmonberry wine, which is made in the keg, is only worth data-sort-value="15">Gold.png15g, but Salmonberry jelly, which is made in the preserves jar, is worth data-sort-value="60">Gold.png60g. Jellies and Pickles are common villager favorites. See Social for more information.

Preserves Jar vs. Keg

The Preserves Jar increases the profit of a crop using the following equation: {[price|50}} + (2 * base value of crop), while the Keg multiplies the base value of fruits by 3, and vegetables by 2.25. Because of this, low-value, high-yield crops like corn or tomatoes are more valuable in the preserves jar. The keg, on the other hand, favors crops with a much higher base value, such as Ancient Fruit or Melons.
