:*''See also: [[User talk:Margotbean/Archive 2021 Feb - Dec|archived discussions 2021 (Feb - Dec)]]''hi! New here though I have been using it the past 2-3 weeks or so once I started playing Stardew Valley on the Xbox One. It’s not a big deal in the slightest but figured since I’ve been using the page so much I should join and didn’t think of contributing much of anything seeing how late in the game I’m joining in 😅 I’m not too sure how accurate this is all kept and all that but I placed the golden statue of Lewis in the center of town right in the middle of the red circle on the right side of it matter and later spawned a “Rotten Plant” I didn’t notice it said it can’t be just picked up and you had to use a tool and when I tried to just press x nothing happen but it shaked. I pressed it a few more time and nothing. But when I held down “x” it rapidly shook and after about 2-3 seconds it just popped out of the ground. I tried to screen record it but bye the time I made my account the 5min “record what happened” function couldn’t record far back enough to see it

== Prismatic Jelly and Ectoplasm ==

Hello, I'm pretty sure you can gift villagers prismatic jelly and ectoplasm during their respective special order quest, I swear I saw the gift icon pops up as you pass by any NPC (not just the wizard) with it in your hotbar, though I've already completed the quest so I can't get you a screenshot. You can definitely gift it using the spawn feature by naming your character or animal <code>[875][876]</code>. [[User:Infiaria|Infiaria]] ([[User talk:Infiaria|talk]]) 08:42, 9 January 2022 (UTC)

== Most Helpful Contribution (Especially From New Editors) ==
:Hi Infiaria! Correct you are, I have seen the gift box icon over villagers' heads too, but when you click on them, the game pops up an "Incorrect person" message in the lower left of the screen. If you wear a Burglar's Ring and get 2 of the item (without ID spawning), the same thing happens after you complete the quest and before the extra item disappears. So, except for very specific circumstances, the game makes sure the item is not giftable.

:I will add a trivia note to the pages, similar to the one on the [[Stardrop]] page, that indicates the item can be spawned and given as a universally hated gift. ok? Thanks for pointing this out. [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 14:18, 9 January 2022 (UTC)

==*Bat Noises Intensify*==

Hi, I’ve been checking out the recent changes page every so often for a while now in anticipation of the new release and it’s clear that you have a lot on your hands. The “Help Editing” page doesn’t give any pointers towards the kind of changes that would be most helpful to you and the wiki, so '''(a)''' I was wondering if you had any in mind (or if there’s a “wanted tasks” list that I missed!)
Heyo

I was playing Stardew Valley recently, and encountered a very unusual bug: I was going to fulfill a request for Lewis when, once I interacted with him, a bat sound effect played, and he jumped in surprise, then showed a hate bubble appear over his head. This continued to happen, regardless of what I did (Even shooting him with my master slingshot to see if I could trigger the dialogue for it! [It did not work, and just made me feel a little bad :/ ...]). Do you know anything about this? [[User:Fnaticlyric560|Fnaticlyric560]] ([[User talk:Fnaticlyric560|talk]]) 21:30, 11 January 2022 (UTC)

==Standardize hotfix format in version history==
+
'''(b)''' if a user spots vandalism before you get to it, do you prefer that they leave it to you or revert the change?
Hi! Hotfixes don't change the version number and they're usually small, so they're a bit awkward to show on [[Version History]]. We've historically handled them pretty inconsistently; for example:

* {{version|1.5.5}}+ shows each hotfix as a separate release with its own section like ''1.5.6 (hotfix 2022-12-22)''.

* {{version|1.5.3}} lists the hotfixes in the intro, then merges their changes into the main release with markers like ¹.

* {{version|1.5.1}} says ''some fixes were deployed in three unversioned hotfixes'', then merges their changes into the main release without distinguishing them.

I want to standardize how they're handled, but I'm not sure what's the best format to use. What do you think of one section per version number, with hotfixes listed at the bottom ([https://i.imgur.com/wZSTFTX.png see mockup])? —<small>[[User:Pathoschild|Pathoschild]] ([[User talk:Pathoschild|talk]]) 23:41, 13 January 2022 (UTC)</small>
+
'''(c)''' the “help editing” page says that changes in formatting should be applied across all languages. What exactly does that encompass? I assume new information can be added to only one language, but what about adding a new section to an article?
:Definitely the mockup! I dislike seeing "hotfix" in the headers and TOC in such a big font like v1.5.5; I do like v1.5.3, but if the little "1" or asterisk (or whatever marker we use to denote the hotfix) is accidentally deleted, then we may be searching page history for hours to reconcile it -- it's too fragile a system. I don't like losing info (like v1.5.1) at all.

:The only thing I somewhat don't like about the mockup is that it violates the "newest version at the top" rule... but the hotfixes are unversioned, and the format makes sense within the version section.

:So, there you have it, my vote is for the mockup 100%. :) [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 14:32, 14 January 2022 (UTC)

:: It was a bit harder to read in practice, so I tweaked the design to more clearly separate hotfixes from the main release. I migrated {{version|1.5.3}} through {{version|1.5.6}}; how does that look? —<small>[[User:Pathoschild|Pathoschild]] ([[User talk:Pathoschild|talk]]) 00:37, 19 January 2022 (UTC)</small>
+
And finally, one question that is only partially related - '''(d)''' do you think it could be worth adding a note to Emily’s page explaining why Clint isn’t one of her friends, as this seems to be a common cause of confusion and incorrect edits? I’m sure this is on her talk page but it may be worth adding to the actual page for those users who only read the wiki. --[[User:Gravy|Gravy]] ([[User talk:Gravy|talk]]) 22:27, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
::: Hope you don't mind if I add my two cents. I like the new format in general, but I don't like that the dates of the hotfixes are buried in the middle/end of the section. If I look at the section for 1.5.6, it says, "Stardew Valley 1.5.6 was released on 21 December 2021." Unless I scroll down, I don't see that a hotfix was applied yesterday. I am misled into thinking I have the most recent version. So I would like the hotfixes to be acknowledged in that introductory sentence/paragraph. Unfortunately, doing that may force a change in how you introduce the hotfixes in the hotfix box. [[User:Zendowolf|Zendowolf]] ([[User talk:Zendowolf|talk]]) 15:47, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

::::I made a couple of formatting tweaks to the gray box around the hotfixes, what do you think? Other than those formatting tweaks, I think it looks great! I don't see a way around having the hotfixes at the bottom of the section, but the gray box makes them stand out more. The alternative would be to start the section with a sentence describing a hotfix without first discussing the major release, which doesn't really make sense to me. I await your feedback, and please let me know when I can copy the new template to the other languages. Thank you!! [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 17:00, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

:Hello Gravy! I haven't had a "help wanted" list since v1.3, so, no, there's nothing I can point you to. After v1.6 releases, it's going to be a free-for-all, so knock yourself out then (so to speak). :D
 +
:You should clean up vandalism if you see it. If a vandal has made several changes to a page, that involves hitting the "undo" link multiple times, starting with the most recent change, and working backwards. It's time-consuming and can be confusing looking through the version history list, but that's the best way to ensure information isn't changed or lost in the process. If I come along later and see something has changed, I may revert the cleanup and then revert the vandalism, because I have access to more powerful links to do so. You should ''not'' take it personally! I appreciate vandalism clean-up!
 +
:Changes to existing formatting require discussion, adding a new section (if it's substantial) should also be discussed. When version 1.6 is released, new information will be added without discussing formatting, as people discover it. New pages and sections will be added, and no one is expected to add them to all 12 languages. But until then, formatting changes encompass everything on the wiki.
 +
:As for Emily and Clint, they may well be friends after v1.6 is released. There is new dialogue being added, so we may (or may not) see more of their relationship being revealed. I don't know. The basis for "friendship" was always "if they give a gifting hint, they're friends, otherwise not." But I added [[Friendship#Gift Preference Dialogues|a table]] for that and removed the field from the infobox on each villager's page, so their friendship is subjective and open to interpretation now. I don't think we need to take action until after v1.6 is released.
 +
:I'll update [[Help:Editing]] to reflect that some of the "rules" don't apply to version 1.6 as well. Happy Farming! [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 19:44, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

::::: I tend to agree, so I added a note saying when the last hotfix was on the most current version, although whether or not we want to track that going forward is another debate. [[User:KNakamura|KNakamura]] ([[User talk:KNakamura|talk]]) 17:19, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

In [[The Mines]], [[The Mines#Dungeon Floors|dungeon floors]] are a type of floor that spawns in [[The Mines]] after [[The Player]] enters the [[Quarry Mine]] for the first time. The floors spawn [[Haunted Skull]]s, [[Slimes|copper]] and [[Slimes|iron]] slimes, [[Mining#Copper Node|copper]] and [[Mining#Iron Node|iron]] nodes. I added a blurb to the [[The Mines#Dungeon Floors|quarry]] section of the [[The Mines|Mines Page]], just so you know. Have I done something wrong when doing this? [[User:9000|9000]] ([[User talk:9000|talk]]) 5:57, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
:::::: So, now we have the problem of v1.5.6 not matching the other versions again. I think we should mention the hotfixes in the intro paragraph for all versions, or none. Otherwise, the whole topic of standardization is moot. [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 17:35, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

:I cleaned up the language a bit, but otherwise it's fine. Thanks for your contribution! [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 19:10, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
:::::: I've updated [[:Template:MainLinks]] to the current version as of Jan. 18, so I've removed the "last hotfixed" sentence from [[Version History]]. Anyone who would like to add hotfix dates to the intro paragraphs for all versions is totally free to do so, I would not mind at all! Thank you, [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 17:57, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

::::::: I added a sentence to each version that has a hotfix box to indicate the dates. I did not include a leading zero for the day (if less than 10), then noticed that some dates do have a leading zero and others do not. One date is Month DD, YYYY instead of DD Month YYYY. Should that be consistent, and if so, how? [[User:Zendowolf|Zendowolf]] ([[User talk:Zendowolf|talk]]) 20:19, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

::::::::Thank you, Zendowolf! It looks great! And it solves everyone's concerns.
+
== The Main Page not updating its image ==
::::::::Yes, the dates should absolutely be consistent. As for format, it's totally your choice. I only have 3 suggestions: (1) Keep the name of the month and don't substitute a number, (2) keep the year last, and (3) don't introduce "th" or "rd" (as in 14th or 3rd). If you have no preference, I suppose I like DD Month YYYY. It matches our signatures on talk pages, and it's understandable by people who normally put day first as well as us weird Americans who normally put month before day. But, if you strongly prefer Month DD, YYYY or another variant, go for it. :) Thank you again!! [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 20:35, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

::::::::: While I was applying those changes, I noticed another issue. It looks like hotfixes for 1.5 were listed under 1.5.1. It's confusing because the release notes for the hotfixes were added to the 1.5.1 announcement, but the dates listed for the hotfixes were before the release of 1.5.1. I'm pretty sure it was "here's 1.5.1 and by the way, here's what we changed in the hotfixes we applied to 1.5" (also included in 1.5.1). I decided to Be Bold and change it, but if I'm wrong you can revert me. [[User:Zendowolf|Zendowolf]] ([[User talk:Zendowolf|talk]]) 22:18, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

In the [[Stardew Valley Wiki|Main Page]] of this Wiki, it has an image to the right of the Stardew Valley logo, which changes depending on the month of the year, the main page image changes to "Banner Right Winter" in the following months: December, January, and February. This is an image of [[1 River Road|George's House]] in [[Winter]]. And in December of 2023, the main page image didn't get updated. Should we set up a code in the Wiki where it automatically updates the main page image, instead of you editing the page too many times? :::::::::: I'm fine with the 1.5/1.5.1 fix. We were previously using an almost-fully-consistent international date format (like <samp>05 December 2021</samp>) though; what's the benefit of editing the entire page to drop the zero-padding, instead of fixing the inconsistent ones? —<small>[[User:Pathoschild|Pathoschild]] ([[User talk:Pathoschild|talk]]) 23:38, 19 January 2022 (UTC)</small>
+
== Missing Link ==
::::::::::: I was trying to make them consistent. The non-padded ones are more prevalent nearer the top, so as I was scanning down deciding which way to go, they seemed pretty evenly split. Non-padded seems more human readable, so that's the way I went. Doesn't really matter to me as long as they're consistent and can be kept consistent. [[User:Zendowolf|Zendowolf]] ([[User talk:Zendowolf|talk]]) 08:33, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

:::::::::::: I prefer zero-padded for consistency (especially when showing dates in a list), but I guess the wiki uses non-zero-padded by default so we can go with that. —<small>[[User:Pathoschild|Pathoschild]] ([[User talk:Pathoschild|talk]]) 17:25, 20 January 2022 (UTC)</small>

Margot, on 31 Dec 23 you reversed an edit by 9000 that stated Harvey needed to be in the clinic in order to trigger the 8-heart event. Are you sure? I saw that you edited [[Farm Maps]] to remove the link that I had. I respectfully disagree about its removal - I think that if someone wanted to select which map they were to play on, and wanted to start with [[Cabin]]s preplaced, that would be essential information from the get-go. I think personally if I didn't know about the existence of the page that I made, I would come to Farm Maps first and not find the information I would want. Fortunately [[Multiplayer]] has that information, but I still this this is a more important place to have it. Thank you for adding the categories and adjusting the wording on the other pages. :Hello Sraw! Thank you for your polite comment. You've given me something to think about. Hello, new to the wiki and wanted to contribute without making a mess of things. I noticed the Traveling Cart page has been marked as a stub because it hasn't been updated to 1.5. I looked through the code and any new items added in 1.5 either fall outside the id range or were added to the list of items that are offlimits for sale. This is true for the rotating stock and the furniture. So I don't see any differences between the traveling cart between 1.4 and 1.5 and think that the stub should be removed. Hey! I don't know if you're aware, but there's a user making problematic edits (specifically, Sincap4859). I noticed that the person made some weird edits and then undid them immediately, and I didn't actually pay much attention to it. However, I think [https://stardewvalleywiki.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Mining%2FSkill&type=revision&diff=135597&oldid=131137 this edit] is extremely problematic and probably worth at least a warning. Even though he [https://stardewvalleywiki.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Mining/Skill&diff=next&oldid=135597 undid it later], it reads as two edits which aren't constructive and extremely unnecessary. Looking at his [https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Special:Contributions/Sincap4859 user contributions], there is nothing meaningful or constructive about them either. I just wanted to put this to your attention. Thanks. [[User:User314159|User314159]] ([[User talk:User314159|talk]]) 15:55, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

I'm glad I found an acceptable edit for my recent findings about Deluxe Retaining Soil. Since then, I've continued some investigations and think I may have more to distribute across various articles on the subject, but I'm not likely to find a way to make those edits that wouldn't be disruptive in the context of the v1.6 release, so I will be holding off. I also need to formulate just what it is I ought to say, so I have no material to look at right away. And I hear that v1.6 may be close? So, just a heads up that something's pending with me, and it might affect structures within somewhat (not sure). I do find there's not much said about fallow but tillable soil, and that whole subject does have implications for fertilizer, so I've got to look around and find where that belongs. All the best for v1.6! [[User:Giles|Giles]] ([[User talk:Giles|talk]]) 20:43, 13 February 2024 (UTC)

:Thanks for the heads up! You may find that I'm so frazzled, I don't care what you change... (Don't tell anyone, though!)
 +
:I don't know how close v1.6 is, there are a fair few bugs to be fixed, but when it's released you might find some things have changed with regard to fertilizer. The alpha change notes ([[Modding:Migrate to Stardew Valley 1.6#Vanilla release notes]]) already contain a change to tilled soil underneath [[Crafting#Seeds|seasonal Wild Seeds]] on Ginger Island, so if you're going to deal with those type of seeds, there may be even more changes with v1.6. You may find a bug specific to v1.6 as well, although I hope not.

::And thanks for the v1.6 heads up, too. I think now that the best approach won't end up changing article structures much: perhaps a new section, once, mostly paragraphs and/or sentences. So that doesn't look too serious. "V1.6 close" is what I've been hearing since November, so I think I won't wait. Who knows when it will be, really? A Wild Seeds change sounds like a special case wrt the stuff I've been digging up - a detail, not a basic behavior. Should be a small change once it comes. :That's a very interesting question. Unfortunately, I don't own the mobile version of the game, and haven't played on mobile since the original beta. So, I can't say what's going on. Hi margotbean,

::Hello [[User:Margotbean|Margot]], I promise I'll stop doing edits like this, but the reason that this was done is because English only uses capitals for the start of a sentence or proper nouns, such as [[Villagers|Villager]] names in Stardew Valley. If you use too many capitals in a sentence, it may lose the flow of writing in English, due to how many capitals there is. [[User:9000|9000]] ([[User talk:9000|talk]]) 05:41, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

Something strange has caught my attention in my two days of being on the Stardew Valley wiki. Every single edit of mine has been deleted or reversed. Strange?... I look at the revision history of all the changes I have made, and something strange sticks out to me. All of the changes done by you? What a coincidence! So my intuition tells me that "maybe I'm breaking some sort of rule?". So I go onto the "help page" but when I scroll down to read it I don't see a single rule stating that what I did was wrong?

*as both a Console and PC player, I noticed that some features available on PC are not available to be accessed on Console (e.g., Some Profile Easter eggs like clicking on Haley's picture) . So, to be helpful, I added a little bit of info, so console players don't get stuck trying to do something that they can't do. And no, it's not a bug. You physically cannot click on the pictures for a reason. It would be frustrating if, instead of scrolling through two options (scroll left, scroll right), there was a middle option that didn't do anything useful other than waste your time.

*the glitches page: You had a discussion? No, you didn't. I can see past logs. You know that, right? You came to an agreement with yourself that that page shouldn't exist. Adding onto that, your original gripe with the first version of the page was that it was dedicated to a single glitch. My new page was devoted to a plethora of glitches not jus the single one you had a problem with.

* Guys can get pregnant. Yeah, you heard that? Not every person who sets their farmer to male has a pair of testicles. If I were a trans guy, I think I would like to know if my farmer is getting pregnant or my spouse or if I had an option.

*I literally uses the exact same format as the other info on the heart event page.

::I can see why you don't want the human record one (the sound is horrifying) but I don't clearly see why the TAS one isn't allowed. TAS isn't "cheating" in the traditional sense—that would be if like, the speed was set artificially set higher, more eggs were added in, or mods were included. TAS represents the highest percentage of what is physically possible, and it is not only physically possible, but humanly possible: you just seen it in that obnoxious video.

I know this is something you would have to do and it's only two weeks away, so it may not be, but not everyone has an X/twitter account and seeing the announcement tweet is difficult without it for some reason (I had to follow a link from an article to see it). Hello [[User:Margotbean|Margot]], in the [[Adventurer's Guild#Monster Eradication Goals|Monster Eradication Goals]], the category for Cave Insects includes [[bug]]s, [[Bug (dangerous)|dangeous bugs]], [[Cave Fly|cave flies]], [[Cave Fly (dangerous)|dangerous cave flies]], [[grub]]s, [[Grub (dangerous)|dangerous grubs]], [[Mutant Fly|mutant flies]], [[Mutant Grub|mutant grubs]], and [[Stone Golem|stone golems]]. But what this is talking about is the [[Stone Golem|stone golem]], prior to v1.5, the [[Monsters|monster]] used to be named Zombies, and had their own category, but this is very odd, if you killed this [[Monsters|monster]], it wouldn't apply to the Cave Insects category, but to the Zombies category. The Zombies category was removed and applied to Cave Insects to v1.5. [[User:9000|9000]] ([[User talk:9000|talk]]) 05:58, 8 March 2024 (UTC)

So, I was just looking at the best gifts section of Penny’s page, didn’t)t have any of her loved gifts, and said to myself ‘Oh, well, I’ll just give her a rabbit’s foot.’, forgetting that she was one of the exceptions to the universal loves. I think that in their pages, in the top box thing with quick information, the fact that the two of them hate rabbit’s foot/prismatic shard should be added, so that someone like me who only glances at their best gifts section on the top of the page, doesn’t go around giving Haley prismatic shards like everyone else. Could I add those exceptions to the blue box thingy?

Thanks for your message. I didn't realize 1.6 was coming out so soon or I probably would have waited. And I also didn't realize big changes have to be approved first. Yes, I found the cooking ingredients so helpful on that page that I copied that format. One reason I think my format is better than a short list as in your example is I find it very helpful to have the items divided by category and with their seasons specified. Then I know that in Spring I need to get certain crops, for example, or these are all the things I need to get from the mines. And there's a precedent for that format, and also for having it on the same page, on the cooking page as you mentioned. If I were going to put those ingredients on a separate page, then I think the cooking ingredients should also be moved to a separate page for consistency. Shouldn't those two pages be consistent? I know that my longer format is a tremendous amount of work (and it was) which is probably why it hadn't been done before, but other than it almost being out-of-date, since someone's done it, could the update stand once I've edited it for 1.6? Thanks for your appreciation, btw. I made a similar update on the RSV wiki for a lot of information that was missing on the quests page and my changes were reverted without any message or explanation. Never played RSV again, lol. :Yes, yes, and yes. Oh, and I'm sorry about the RSV wiki!
 +
:Yes, your longer format is fine if you feel it's helpful, and yes, we can build the tables once v1.6 is released. I would strongly prefer a link to the page, so that the page would be "Crafting/Ingredients" (a sub-page of Crafting) and then a simple link to it under a heading "Ingredients".
 +
:And yes, the [[Cooking]] page should be the same! Unfortunately, there is only one of me, and 12 languages to try desperately to keep cohesive. With all the 1.6 changes (and all the daily changes across all 12 languages), moving ingredients to a separate page has been pushed to the bottom of the "to do" list. One of us could easily do it in English, but then what about the other languages? It's a relatively simple change, someone just has to find the correct translation for "see [this page]" and then move the section. It sounds straight-forward, but around language #6 you start to think "Wowsers, this is a lot of work, did I make a mistake in German, oh geez, I have to check that" and then you lose your place... Well, it gets complicated very fast. Having said that, if you want to attempt that change in all 12 languages, that would be stupendous. (!!)
 +
:Otherwise, we'll concentrate on [[Crafting]] for now, start creating the tables in 2 days, and then migrating the changes to the other languages will be part of v1.6 changes, more likely for translators to pick up and do themselves.

:I see what you're saying, but I think it's just confusing and not actually wrong. It says "Thursday, Friday" but "Friday and Sunday". So I think the intent for the former is that it applies to every Thursday but only on Friday if the player has 6+ hearts. I'm not sure the best way to change it so that it's more clear. It's that way in all four seasons. Maybe Margotbean has an idea (and can confirm my supposition). [[User:Zendowolf|Zendowolf]] ([[User talk:Zendowolf|talk]]) 01:55, 3 April 2022 (UTC)

i noticed that you deleted a page i just created because of the name, which is understandable as it's not a great name. i just picked that name because these boxes have similar interaction like the first package upon starting a new save for the first time. should i just cover the details of these boxes in the respective locations' pages for now, or do i hold on to them for now until a page is decided for it?

I can say with almost absolute certainty that the club's secondary attack cannot deal critical hits, and I tested this extensively in-game. However, I don't know how to view the game's code, and even if I did, I don't think there is a simple way to prove that an oversight was made. Is it really necessary to provide code references for something that I found out through simple observation? [[User:Baconfry39|Baconfry39]] ([[User talk:Baconfry39|talk]]) 20:52, 6 April 2022 (UTC)

Hello, sorry in advance for the confusion but I have planted my mossy seed and saw it grow into a large all-green mossy tree, and went through the game's .xnb files and found the images for it. The tree was simply named tree 3 Green Rain, and when tapped it produced fiddlehead fern. I added this information to a Mossy Tree page, and another user alerted me that their mossy seed had grown into a different tree, which when they looked into the .xnb files for, they found under tree 1 Green rain. Their tree cannot be tapped like mine, but it spreads seeds around it (whereas I'm not sure mine does). Now we have these two confirmed (but separate) trees that grow from the same seed, with a possible third variant (the file tree 2 Green rain) coming from the mossy seed as well. It seems that these are called the Fiddlehead Stalk (tree 3 Green rain) and the Wild Tree (tree 1 Green rain), but I'm not sure how to validate the legitimacy of these names...? Right now the Fiddlehead Stalk is named under the Mossy Tree page, and I was wondering if there was a way to update it to a new name once one is confirmed, and also on how to proceed with formatting when 1 seed can produce many variants of a tree. Should it be three separate tree pages, or one page with all of them? Thank you so much for any guidance.

:Hello anonymous editor! The fact is, there is no in-game name for these trees, and I don't know what to call them to differentiate them from other trees that have moss on them. If we stick to the game files, then they are "Green Rain Trees". They all start with the green rain event.
 +
:I think we should discuss the proper name for them, and try (try!) to decide quickly, before the name gets copied into 11 other languages and becomes an indelible part of history. If we have already decided on "Mossy Tree" then we need to be explicit about the difference between a "Mossy Tree" and a tree with Moss on it. Because "Mossy Trees" come with and without moss on them. 🥴 [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 16:44, 23 March 2024 (UTC)

::Just chipping into this discussion, I agree that calling is Mossy Tree is a bit confusing with the other trees which can also have Moss on them. I think this name comes from the fact that these trees can be grown using [[Mossy Seed]], which is a bit of a misnomer since its not necessarily moss related. "I'm just now realizing that the term "Mossy Tree" was removed and replaced with Green Rain Trees, but I personally believe that it should be reverted. I feel like that is what it should logically be called, and "Green Rain Trees" seems sort of weird, considering that they come from other sources besides that event. We can just put one of those notes at the top of the pages that says "Not to be confused with trees covered in moss."" Additionally, some of the specific variations are considered "Wild Trees" so that wouldn't work either. ::::::::Ok, quite a bit has happened. I feel that it should stay as "Green Rain Trees" so forget everything I said above. This is mainly because "Wild Trees" is a new concept that consists of all trees in the wild. Because of this, '''Wild Tree''' would need to be moved to a page called '''Bushy Mossy Tree''' and '''Lush Wild Tree''' needs to be moved to Leafy Mossy Tree. These Bushy and Leafy adjectives actually come from the game code so it’s official. This also means that the [[Mossy Tree]] page can be changed to a “disambiguation page” (a list of what it may mean) of sorts. I can handle this, as long as you take the protection off that page, though. :) And don't worry-I'll make sure to add plenty of "Not to be confused with..." notices. I know this is a confusing topic, but I believe that this is the least confusing method. Hello [[User:Margotbean|Margotbean]], back in 2022, I created a page on Fireworks, but you deleted it because it was an unobtainable item, v1.6 officially added Fireworks, which are obtained from [[Qi's Walnut Room|Mr. Qi's walnut room]] on [[Ginger Island]], and cost 1 [[Qi Gem|Qi gem]] each. For instance the schedules of [[Emily]] and [[Gus]] are shown in a completely different format from [[Haley]] and [[Demetrius]]. I estimate it to be about 50% of the villagers in one format, and 50% in the other.

Now, I was thinking about standardizing these formats and making changes accordingly whenever I notice inconsistencies.

Before I do so though, I figured I'd reach out to you (I was referred to you by PathosChild) to make sure this would be desired and not to step on anyone's toes, especially if these formats have already been considered.

:Hello Sorrol! The villagers schedules' format was discussed (at length) when the wiki was new. Some villagers' schedules vary by season, and others don't, so the seasonal schedules have one format, and the rest have the other. The schedule dictates the format, in all 12 languages. If you find that the schedule details are inaccurate, however, you're welcome to update them!

As you may know, 1.6 changed the coding for special fish spawns (e.g. Legendary fish, Night Market fish, fishing presents, etc.). Pre-1.6, their spawns were taken care of in functions called getFish in the game code. However, for most of them, their spawns are now taken care of in Data\Locations.xnb. Upon inspection, very few (if any) of their percentage chances of catching have actually changed. Therefore, I will change all of the necessary getFish references to reference Data\Locations.xnb instead. Letting you know because these changes won't need history sections as nothing related to the actual gameplay changes. Thanks. Hi! The template was only used on one page because I was still collecting feedback on the format. :OK, I can always undo the changes and undelete the template. Next time, please discuss template changes w/me ''before'' making them? Templates have to be copied into the other 11 languages, and translated. When they're in the beta state, that would be a good thing to let the admin know about. 👍 I'm going to create a category called "Modding Templates" where more experimentation can take place, please make use of modding template talk pages! :: Sure, I can discuss any new templates before they're created. What do you want me to do with the talk pages?
+
I'm confused about the use of terminology and the organization of the Wiki regarding matters intersecting these items. "Inventory" has long meant the first tab of (the Player Menu?, or what?), and its page seems to indicate that it's just the first tab. But I'm not sure we're consistent about using "inventory" in that way. We have separate articles for other tabs, some of those new, but where do we describe what a "Tab" really is and where to find it? Inventory? We seem to have no article that draws all the tabs together (no "Player Menu"), to describe such a central UI feature. And isn't "Player Menu" often used as inventory? I think it's all a bit jumbled, and the website lacks sufficient topical articles to help sort out distinctions and separations from unions and conjunctions. Now is as good a time as any to put any changes into practice.

:: The modding pages aren't actively translated into other languages though; the main page is only in 5 other languages, and they're all woefully incomplete or outdated. —<small>[[User:Pathoschild|Pathoschild]] ([[User talk:Pathoschild|talk]]) 16:20, 15 June 2022 (UTC)</small>
+
One more element to this: Mastery. The Mastery Tab displays just the Powers of the masteries, not all the effects of them. The [[Mastery Cave]] article certainly could be used to put all mastery features together, but that would probably mean listing the powers there as well, introducing replication, yet the tab needs the info also.
:::Use the talk pages to discuss changes to existing templates before they're made, and to gather feedback on newly created ones (you said you're collecting feedback on the format of "executable name"). If you're doing that mostly on discord, that's fine, but definitely use them before making changes to other templates. Let modders know they can comment on the wiki as well. Obviously a template won't have a talk page if we're in the discussion stage, and it's not yet created.

:::I know the other languages' modding sections are in a sorry state. Some of the contributing factors to that are the rapid number of changes made in English, the complexities of the pages, the html mixed with mediawiki syntax, the missing templates, and the frequent page name changes. I'd like to make it as easy as possible for them to translate technical jargon without stumbling over those kinds of issues. I feel awful for them when I see them try, and then give up because they just can't figure out why the page doesn't look right. I've tried to step in and help, and it's taken me way too long to figure it out myself at times. I would like that to change, and give them a fighting chance. After all, they never announce when they've decided to start translating modding pages, they just show up at any time.

:::Side note: do you know why the [https://stardewmodding.wiki/wiki/Main_Page modding wiki] is down, and is it coming back? [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 18:06, 15 June 2022 (UTC)

:::: Yeah, modding is still very much in flux; things change much faster in modding than they do for the game itself. That should hopefully start to settle down after [[Modding:Migrate to Stardew Valley 1.6|Stardew Valley 1.6]], which will standardize a lot of the modding approaches. Creating other templates or using CSS styles to replace some of the HTML / wiki markup might help too.
+
So I'm asking for guidance on how the Wiki should be structured, for all of us. But I'm also asking for terminology intent, that the texts may be clear. It's certainly a bundle!

:::: Re the unofficial tutorial wiki, apparently there's an issue with the <samp>stardewmodding.wiki</samp> domain. :I can address some of that! The player menu refers to the entire set of tabs that pops up in-game when you hit "E" or "Esc" by default. The player tab is the 2nd tab from the left on that menu, right after the inventory tab. It does introduce difficulty, since both terms use "player". But the two are different! Some places refer to it as the "Skills Tab" as well, which isn't awful, but outdated.

::Thanks! The more I look at it, the more I'm inclined towards the idea of a Player Menu article. I could write up a good intro right now, starting with the clarifications you just gave me. It would need an image - of the default display when it pops up. But that's essentially the "Inventory Screen" section of [[Inventory]] right now, which needs updating anyway. Splitting off that part of Inventory would lead to two short articles, true, but it would also make distinct the shift between global and local foci of topics and emphasize where all the many tab articles are centered. I haven’t made it to winter yet and was wondering if they could be grown in winter. Thank you much! [[User:Varce|Varce]] ([[User talk:Varce|talk]]) 20:07, 29 June 2022 (UTC)

::Second thought, in place of the original above. Perhaps Player Menu could be a name redirect in the article space - to [[Inventory]]. Inventory is the way it pops up, and separate sections could be devoted to the two purposes, with the need for only one image to oversee all, and wording to avoid duplications. Hi, just made this account to make some edits but realized too late I didn't add an "x" to the end of my username to make it "Gofer2x". It's my usual username and I'd prefer to keep it consistent across sites. I've looked online and Mediawiki seems to let admins change usernames, could you change it for me if not a problem?

Whoops. Thanks for going back and adding the licensing and categories to the image files. I had forgotten to do that! Once again, thank you very much. Good day to you, Margotbean. [[User:PrismaticGlasses|PrismaticGlasses]] ([[User talk:PrismaticGlasses|talk]]) 15:01, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

Also, I want to dig through the code and add some references to some wiki pages. But if the relevant code is in a bigger function (like several hundred lines long), do I only point to the function or add extra details (e.g. <samp>Foo.Bar::Baz</samp>, <samp>case 35</samp>? I imagine a line number could also work but it could differ across setups.
:No problem, it was a good thing, one of the original images was missing its license. I wouldn't have noticed otherwise. ;) [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 15:17, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

:I'm sorry, I'm unable to change usernames.
 +
:When giving code references, how specific you want to get is up to you. I wouldn't add line numbers or case numbers, because decompilers can change those. But adding something simple like "the use case for 'nameOfCase'" would be fine.

Hi, I see that for some reason you've been re-arranging the text I'm adding about tackle crafting profitability to put it way down at the bottom of the page, I'm going to move everything back to the way I wrote it on the tackle pages and ask that you please stop reverting it. There's no reason at all to move this text down to a Notes section at the bottom, which hides it (I didn't even notice that a more vague note already existed on [[Barbed Hook]] for example) and contradicts the way that all other similar information on this wiki is formatted.  All profitable recipes on the wiki are formatted the exact same way as I am doing this and have been for years, and it's important information that should be easily visible and these pages are not very large or bloated. So I'd ask that you just let me add this information for the sake of consistency across the wiki if nothing else. - [[User:Emmeka|Emmeka]] ([[User talk:Emmeka|talk]]) 16:50, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

Hello [[User:Margotbean|Margotbean]], we was just looking under the different [[Fish#Legendary Fish|legendary fish]], and we noticed that they can be put in [[Fish Pond|fish ponds]] now, as we just noticed [[roe]] and [[Aged Roe|aged roe]] in the different pages. Note that this does not include the [[Fish#Legendary Fish II|Legendary Fish II]]. [[User:9000|9000]] ([[User talk:9000|talk]] [[Special:Contributions/9000|contributions]]) 21:30, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
:I'm afraid I've already explained my reasoning on your talk page. If the pages aren't large, there's no reason the information should be difficult to find in a "Notes" section. I've also asked for your understanding in my decision. So, I'm left with no choice but to let you know that repeatedly reverting edits made by wiki staff is grounds for temporary or permanent banning. We will have to agree to disagree. [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 16:53, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

::If you're going to seriously whip out admin powers force this, then I expect you to come up with a solution to format this consistently across all articles and implement it. If you don't, you're just intervening in my attempt to add information to the wiki to force an arbitrary and inconsistent format, for no explicable reason. Threatening to ban me over this is an absurd overreach. I'm the one who's added most of the information about recipe profitability to this wiki over the years, and only now out of the blue years later you're taking issue with how I've been formatting it (a format I did not even create, but copied from earlier articles with the same information for the sake of consistency across the whole wiki), and only for tackle specifically! Or is there any actual reason you are insisting that tackle, and nothing else, have a completely different place in the article for this information than all other articles with similar information? - [[User:Emmeka|Emmeka]] ([[User talk:Emmeka|talk]]) 17:06, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

:::Please take a breath and calm down. I've already stated my reason for the format, so it isn't "inexplicable". Every page except cooking pages contain profit information in a separate section. A search for the term "profit" will show you the results.

:::A temporary or permanent ban is standard procedure for violating wiki rules, such as repeatedly edit-warring with an Admin, particularly after the Admin has given you an explanation. :::Now I'm beginning to think that for consistency's sake, we leave the pages as is. We don't have a link to [[Preserves Jar Productivity]] and [[Keg Productivity]] on every fruit & veg's page, nor should we. We have links to [[Animal Products Profitability]] on all the processed goods pages, in the "Artisan Goods" section. We have liks to keg & preserves jar productivity on pages like [[Wine]] and [[Juice]], because the player has a choice of which equipment to use to process the raw ingredients. So I'm thinking the pages are fine. This occurs to me as I open all animal products and artisan goods pages in separate tabs, and Ctrl+Page Up/Down to compare them all quickly.

:::I would value your opinion on this! Thank you (again)! [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 14:39, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

::::Sorry for being really late on this. I agree, I think keeping the links consistent with other pages like [[Wine]] is a great idea. However, upon looking at the pages, it isn't the processed goods (such as [[Mayonnaise]], [[Void Mayonnaise]], and [[Dinosaur Mayonnaise]]) that have the "Artisan Goods" section but rather the raw goods (such as [[Egg]], [[Dinosaur Egg]], and [[Void Egg]]) which means that they are currently not consistent. For consistency's sake, we would have to remove those links from the latter group of pages and put them on the former group of pages. Which means more changes, but it will be worth it. [[User:User314159|User314159]] ([[User talk:User314159|talk]]) 18:57, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

:::::Hmmm... I like consistency, but I don't think removing the existing links is a good idea. The whole goal is to increase visibility of [[Animal Products Profitability]]. There is an argument to be made that animal products shouldn't be compared to other Artisan Goods that use Preserves Jar/Keg, because the decision to process or not process it depends on different factors (chiefly the Rancher Profession). ==Adding 1.6 items to [[Template:Collections_Items_Shipped]]==
:Removing the reticle and the snow would be good. Normally Spring images are best, but in this case I think Fall might be better, because it first shows up in Fall (for new games). Generally images taken from the sprite sheet are best, but not for this image. For larger screenshots, you can hit F4 to go into screenshot mode, or use the built-in screenshot button in the options menu. (Again, not needed for this image, but in general). Hope this helps! Hello [[User:Margotbean|Margotbean]], I noticed that the [[Collections]] page, and the template it uses, [[Template:Collections_Items_Shipped]], was not updated yet. Specifically, the Items Shipped, Fish, and Cooking sections. I went to go update the image File:Shipping_Page_1.png, but the image didn't change after uploading for some reason. Thankfully it didn't change, since I realized a couple of minutes later that [[Template:Collections_Items_Shipped]] was protected. I did try to undo it, but it wouldn't let me (I guess only admins can do that?). So, I was wondering if you could undo that edit? And, if possible, maybe allowing edits on [[Template:Collections_Items_Shipped]] so that it can be updated? :::::I honestly don't think we need the image at all. In looking at the [[Quests]] page, there is ample text under "List of Special Orders" for us to insert an image without adversely affecting the flow of the page. But the "Help Wanted Quests" section already has less text and a large image that continues into the "Achievements" section on wide screens. I also think describing the location of the "help wanted" board is sufficient, really. [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 15:18, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

┌──────────┘

For the Help Wanted file first: I feel like such a photo would give significantly more context to the information provided, which is generally my goal when editing, regardless if the location is described or not. This is because it let players know what to expect when they go looking for that object, so personally I disagree about the usefulness/necessity.
+
== Link to All 1.6 New Furniture ==

I also don't think that overflowing the section is that much of a deal, especially as it would only flow into the next subsection, which is still related to the Help Wanted Board and full of text that would just reflow around the image. In my editing opinion, I don't think that prose length should really dictate that sort of decision. Also, the draft image is also less than 250px square, which is about the half of most building infobox images, which when combined with the Valley map do currently overflow.
+
Here is the link I found to all the new 1.6 Furniture, this site has all the names of the items and their image files:

As an alternative, I think it might simply be possible to put the whole [[:File:Pierres shop.png]] photo there as a reference, if that helps avoid issues with translations (that you mentioned earlier) and such. But I think in general it is useful to have a representation of the board, and/or an image of the board's location in some form. That being said, there was tremendous variety when looking up information on small objects in the game for precedent, but do let me know your thoughts about how to proceed there if at all.

== Custom styles for modding namespace ==
+
== Redirects ==

Hi! I'm looking into simplifying markup on modding pages, to make them easier to edit and translate. One of the big offenders is the custom headers on [[Modding:Player Guide/Troubleshooting]] — they make the page much easier to reference for players (which is important), but they're a pain to edit. The markup is ugly, you can't edit them as sections, and the wiki security often blocks edits to the page (which makes things extra hard for translators copying the page).
+
I've been adding some redirects to the wiki and you've been deleting them. Personally, I think the redirects provide a tremendous amount of value. However, since you've been deleting them, presumably you think they are just clutter and/or not necessary. Would you allow me to possibly convince you otherwise? As a basic example, take the case of "book seller". If I type that into the wiki, it currently [https://imgur.com/a/fDK1KVo looks like this], giving 0 results and giving the appearance that such a thing does not exist on the wiki at all. However, of course that is a lie, because the page "Bookseller" exists. This is confusing because in normal English, "book seller" is always separated as two words. The only reason that it is different on the wiki is because ConcernedApe made a typo / grammatical error when implementing it into the game, and the wiki explicitly follows the in-game conventions.

I was thinking of [[mw:Extension:TemplateStyles|adding a stylesheet]] to the [[Template:modding player guide header||modding header template]] for the custom styles like that. Then the markup on the page will change from this:
+
You could imagine a scenario with a user being something along the lines of: "Oh, the Book Seller is in town today. I remember from last time that they sell rare books, but I don't remember anymore which specific ones that are sold. No problem, let me look that up on the wiki! [types in "book seller", gets no results]. What the heck? I guess the wiki doesn't have any information on the book seller yet, so let me just do a Google search for "stardew book seller" and see what I can find. [does Google search] Wait a second, the Google search just pointed me back to the wiki. Oh, I see the problem now, bookseller is one word on the wiki. That's really annoying!"
<syntaxhighlight lang="html"><h1 style="border: 2px solid rgb(0, 116, 72); background: rgba(3, 160, 7, 0.1); padding: 1em; margin-bottom:0;">The basics</h1></syntaxhighlight>

To just this:

<pre>= The basics =</pre>

Then we only need to copy the template styles once to each wiki, and all the modding pages are nice and simple to translate without baking styles into the markup. Any objections? —<small>[[User:Pathoschild|Pathoschild]] ([[User talk:Pathoschild|talk]]) 21:16, 16 July 2022 (UTC)</small>
+
We can fix up this user story with a redirect. By making "book seller" redirect to "bookseller", we can plant users exactly where they expect to be with 0 friction. Perhaps we could call these type of redirects "search redirects", which have the explicit goal of saving the user time or preventing a second click and/or a second google search. Unfortunately, I know that such "search redirects" will show up in the MediaWiki admin tools as "orphaned pages" that don't link anywhere else, which will make them show up alongside other legitimate pages that do need to be deleted. However, I think that search redirects provide so much value that they should be excepted. Please consider this request. --[[User:Zamiel|Zamiel]] ([[User talk:Zamiel|talk]]) 10:14, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

:I think moving CSS out of the page is a great idea! I'm not sure it will work with [[Template:modding player guide header|Modding:Player Guide/header]], since it's not a template, though. You might have to create a new template to use a template stylesheet.
+
: Hi, to your specific mention of "Bookseller" - the word ''does'' exist in English; it is a noun that is defined as the proprietor of a bookstore or one who sells books. (https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/bookseller) ConcernedApe did NOT make a typo or grammatical error.
:So, if you make [[Template:modding player guide header|Modding:Player Guide/header]] into a true template it will affect 4 other languages that have already been translated. That's a fair bit of work, I wouldn't mind help with copying changes to the other languages.

:Also, I tried stripping out almost all the CSS from  [[Modding:Player Guide/Troubleshooting]], and it still gave me the "you've been blocked from the wiki" page error when editing the whole page. So, just changing the h1 styles won't solve all the problems with editing the page. I even discussed it with the server people, they said it's a cloudflare thing, and there is a [[User:Prod/Test|test page]] that looks extremely simple, but if you try to edit it, you get the same big red "blocked" error page.

:tl;dr, yes, but I think you'll need an actual template, and I wouldn't mind if you assisted in copying it to the other languages. 😁 [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 14:27, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

:: Yeah, I narrowed it down to [https://pastebin.com/fgWLMTCj these four lines], where removing any one of them (including the border style) avoids the error. There's probably some heuristic pattern scores or something. So removing the inline CSS will help, but we might need a few other tweaks to fully fix it.

:: My inquiry is not just about bookseller. It is about "search redirects" more generally. Search redirects provide value regardless of whether or not the word exists in a dictionary. Ps. I understand that you don't want 1 page for all the scythes, but I thought it might be better to just update the pages individually. (when compared gold scythe to iridium) I was just gonna focus on changes like that. To make sure all the information is updated and relevant. == Sam Beach Portraits ==

Serves as a good entry page for readers looking for the effects on star quality for items (none/silver/gold/iridium). This page could cover some common features for quality items, including sell price, healing/restoration effects, friendship etc. All those values use identical formulas for different items, but we're lacking a page to describe these commonalities. For how quality items in different categories can be obtained, other pages could be linked (e.g. [[Crops]], [[Fishing]], [[Foraging]]). - [[User:IBugOne|IBugOne]] ([[User talk:IBugOne|talk]]) 07:14, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi, I went into the game code and noticed that there are 10 beach portraits for Sam in the game code but there are only 3 shown on the wiki page. I have posted a stub on the [[Sam#Portraits|portraits]] section of [[Sam]]'s page. My only question is, is there a good reason for these 7 beach portraits to be missing, or is it just a mistake on the wiki? :::::I never imagined it could have too much unique info. As I opened with, it ''Serves as a good entry page'', and is a perfect resource for those who wonder "What items can have star qualities?" or "What does the star on the item do?" IMO, these questions lack a good answer about quality in general, notably "What's the formulae for quality bonus?" Considering that even with only 4 items, [[Bait]] still justifies as a page. So does this game mechanism, for sure. - [[User:IBugOne|IBugOne]] ([[User talk:IBugOne|talk]]) 19:39, 10 August 2022 (UTC)

::::::As per my rationale above, the draft page should now do well on what it's supposed to. It compiles most (if not all) commonalities of the quality star into one page, and links to other pages should a reader wants to learn more about specific categories. The only missing part would be a ''History'' section that's common to all pages. Shouldn't be hard to add one but I doubt the necessity, just like [[Getting Started]] doesn't need one, either. - [[User:IBugOne|IBugOne]] ([[User talk:IBugOne|talk]]) 19:35, 12 August 2022 (UTC)

::::::I still don't see enough unique info to justify having its own page. It ''might'' work as a sort of disambiguation page (but not an actual disambiguation page), if it were trimmed down to the basics (4 qualities represented by 4 stars and a 0, 1, 2, or 4 internally), and then a list of links to the various items' quality sections. [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 17:28, 13 August 2022 (UTC)

::::::I believe its content is mature. It contains ''exactly'' as much as necessary for a "summary"-like page, with basic intro towards each affected category, as well as link to specific sections that hold more details. I disagree that it should be trimmed down to the "bare minimum", which only makes it harder for readers to gather an ''overview'' about the mechanism in whole. - [[User:IBugOne|IBugOne]] ([[User talk:IBugOne|talk]]) 08:50, 14 August 2022 (UTC)

Sorry for acting like a dumb head. I was trying to fix an icon alignment issue on [[Squid Ink Ravioli]] (see [https://imgur.com/a/OXMfRLB screenshots]). It was caused by the <samp><nowiki>{{duration|}}</nowiki></samp> template having extra CSS (namely, <samp>margin</samp> settings), but I couldn't find how to insert inline CSS, so I figured out I could make a way to insert multiple <samp><nowiki>{{duration|}}</nowiki></samp> templates into that place. Due to how MediaWiki templates work, I had to modify multiple templates only to ''find a way''. I have undone all unnecessary changes and left only [[Template:RecipeRow]] and [[Template:Infobox cooking]] modified, adding a <samp>duration2</samp> parameter to allow the latter template to manage content correctly. Hi, I got a message from you. I did not seek to cause any trouble, nor did I want to overstep. I misunderstood how it all worked and thought it would go up for review but not change the page since I’m a new member. Asmodius/Asmodeus (both proper spellings) is a key figure in Judaic lore. The Ars Goetia was of course largely inspired by this. He’s also very connected to magicians, wizards in particular via King Solomon, whom he took the place of and posed as. He’s actually tied to a few other beliefs and cultures, even featuring in a French comedy by Alain-René Le Sage. He’s inspired many characters in many modern stories, and as you said, he is well know in demonology and demonolatry.  I chose that reference because more people associate him with that source, largely due to his popularity in modern times rather than digging into his origins. Rasmodius probably being inspired by him was just a neat Easter egg. I’ve never posted on anything like this before, but I’m a big fan of cultural, religious, and historical representation. Thank you for your message and your time. I won’t make more edits, as I had actually only made the account because of my excitement. I appreciate your work on this app and the help you provide to fans of Stardew. Have a lovely day. [[User:Eya|Eya]] ([[User talk:Eya|talk]]) 02:32, 2 September 2022 (UTC)

::it's alright, i understand the frustration. this is my point though - it seems like more hassle than it's worth to update the template to account for every edge case. unfortunately i'm monolingual and have a very loose understanding of wiki formatting so i won't be much help with it. perhaps the part of GiftHeader that contains birthday dialogue could be removed, and each villager's page could have their respective birthday dialogue written in manually? so it would look like <nowiki>==Gifts==, then {{GiftHeader}}, then 'For loved or liked gifts, Jas will say...' etc.</nowiki> i would happily do this for the English wiki but unfortunately i won't be much help for any of the translations. :Hello Eya! I didn't send a message per se, but I did revert the edit after googling "Asmodius". There are a lot of dark connotations associated with that particular entity, and I didn't want to introduce that element to the wiki unnecessarily. It's possible that ConcernedApe is familiar with the name, and even that it inspired the Wizard's name, but most of what I read was about the demon, and dealt with rather adult topics.
+
:::It might be better that way, but that would still require changes to the template (in all 12 languages). [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 18:37, 12 April 2024 (UTC)

::::i could do that then, with your permission? i suppose i don't need to understand the language to remove info. this would leave the non-English wikis without any birthday dialogue for a while until a proper translator wrote it in, but if you're okay with that i can go ahead and change the template(s). :::::: Would it be helpful in the meantime to collect the custom birthday dialog for each language? I don't know how to access data files, but anyone can copy it down by switching the language in-game, as long as they know enough about the language to write it accurately using a keyboard (if it doesn't use a latin alphabet). Hi. I tried to explain the [[Skull Cavern]] staircase technique without going too much into the details, because then it would quickly become a full paragraph or two, and that is probably too much for a page like that with bullet points. Not that easy to explain it in writing either, it's better to see it in action. The technique is [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lgs0LqaK7t8 explained here] by the current world record holder in iridium ore count (he later somehow managed to gather 11.5k, but there isn't a video about that run as far as I know). Going that fast is incredibly difficult, especially over such a long time, but sometimes you get into a good rhythm, and I've been able to get quite a few "ticks" around 70 floors, and even a few 80s. I learnt about it in [https://forums.stardewvalley.net/threads/skull-cavern-dives-and-loot.13295/ this thread] on the forum, and on page 5 and 6 have written about the runs. Like I said, tried to write down info about this briefly so people can at least know about it, because I figured going into the gritty details of it would probably just get blanket reverted anyway. It doesn't truly work in MP btw, because the game (in-game clock) doesn't pause then. [[User:Pangaea|Pangaea]] ([[User talk:Pangaea|talk]]) 22:24, 2 September 2022 (UTC)

== Couple Elixirs vs Two Elixirs ==
:I see what happened now, thank you for the explanation.

:I've been thinking about this for a day now, and I'm not sure how to summarize a speedrunning strategy, or even if it belongs on the wiki. I watched the video, and read most of the forum post, and neither one really does the technique justice. The video also mentions that it's an advanced technique, and the creator isn't going to explain it in the video. So, we have the forum post left. At least one person commented that they couldn't get the hang of it.

:I'm not totally opposed to adding mentions of speedrunning strategies on the wiki, but I'm not sure how helpful this one really is. I can see that you have used it with great success, and want the same for others. I just don't know if that's realistic.

:If you can find a good summary of the technique, with no rambling, no disclaimers (such as "I'm not going to explain this technique"), perhaps we can place a link to it on the wiki, labeled "advanced technique".

:FYI, you can link to a specific comment in a forum post by right-clicking on the number of the post at the top right of it, and copying the link, rather than linking to the entire post.

:Fair enough? [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 19:44, 3 September 2022 (UTC)

::Thank you for the feedback. I haven't thought about this as speedrunning tbh, as that is something they do right from the get-go to achieve a pretty specific goal in an absurdly short time. These deep dives is something that can be done on the side in an otherwise normal game. However, it's certainly pretty hardcore and using advanced techniques that aren't obvious or easy to pull off. It requires practice to do well. My thinking was that it would be good to have info about this on the wiki since going to the Skull Cavern is something that probably all players do, if only to try to reach floor 100 for Qi. Particularly as there already was a "strategy" section.

::Godzilla_Freak explains the technique pretty well in that video, from around 1:40. It's all the other stuff he doesn't really go into, like jade production, needed equipment, how to use the slingshot and so forth. Nor that it's possible to change tools on the inventory screen (I didn't figure this out until much later, on my own). I'm not sure how to best put it down to words in a succinct yet understandable manner. Seeing it in action is easier, and that is when I truly understood it. Therefore, if it's possible to have the video as a reference, perhaps with a time stamp, that would be useful I think.

::If you think this info would add value to the wiki, either on that page or somewhere else, I can try to write down something about it. I just got up, but felt I had to reply now since it's been several days . How brief would it have to be? [[User:Pangaea|Pangaea]] ([[User talk:Pangaea|talk]]) 07:21, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

:::Good morning! I was thinking something like:

:::'''Advanced technique:''' In singleplayer, the pause menu can be utilized to stop time while the level loads. Pressing "Escape" or "E" (by default) to bring up the menu immediately upon entering a level, and then closing it [when???] effectively stops the game clock, gaining valuable time while descending a large number of floors.

:::We need to answer the [when???] question, and then I don't think a reference link to a post or video is necessary. I still don't find the video you linked to all that helpful, and it is quite long. If there's no better source, I think we should just skip it.

:::That's pretty much all we need, I think. [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 17:39, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

::::Hmm, really? I thought he explained it quite well in those few minutes from 1:40-ish. After that he goes into descending very quickly, and later slingsthotting. But that little section of the video is what made me understand it at least.

::::*The technique: Press "E" upon entering a new level. This brings up the inventory and pauses the in-game clock. The floor proceeds to fully load in while the game is effectively paused, and after the fading in from black is complete (usually 1-2 seconds, but probably depends on PC specs), one can unpause again by hitting "E". However, this next step is also crucial in descending fast. While the inventory is up, you hold down both mouse buttons while the mouse pointer hovers on a tile next to the farmer (I prefer left or right). This means that when you unpause the game, you will instantly place a ladder and go down, with next to no 'wasted' time. To save time in case that tile is occupied with e.g. a torch or stone, you can double-pause (E+E) when you unpause the game. That means that you instantly pause again if the tile you hover is invalid, therefore losing very little time. And if the tile is free, you instantly go down the stairs without re-pausing. On the next floor, you repeat the process. Do note, however, that if you pause too quickly, before the level has started to load/fade in, you miss the chance to pause and must wait until it is fully loaded in. Not a big deal if it happens rarely, but something to be aware of. That's why I say that the timing is crucial here, and is something users must get a feel for.

::::Perhaps this was too 'texty' and can be shortened down, but it's an advanced technique and not easy to explain briefly so that people get the whole gist of it. That's why I would recommend to refer to that video (or others if they exist) so people can see it in action, as well as get it explained by probably the best person in the world at this particular technique. [[User:Pangaea|Pangaea]] ([[User talk:Pangaea|talk]]) 10:06, 8 September 2022 (UTC)

::::: What about: "While time still passes as levels in the skull cavern fade in and out, opening the inventory at the right point can pause time during these fade screens. However, this can be quite precise." And then insert a link? [[User:Atravita|Atravita]] ([[User talk:Atravita|talk]]) 12:29, 8 September 2022 (UTC)

::::::Oh goodness, so we're talking about two techniques here: (1) stopping time during the loading process, and (2) clicking both mouse buttons to place a staircase during the time-pause. I did ''not'' get that we were demonstrating the time-pause strategy from the video, I got that the creator was using the time pause to do some bonus work (''i.e.,'' placing a staircase). So now we've added another layer of complexity. That's a bit too advanced to be really useful, I think. It falls in the same category as animation cancelling, something the wiki doesn't go into because it's tricky and not all that helpful to the majority of casual players. It seems to apply only to mouse/keyboard as well, there's no mention of using a controller. I think it's really something for reddit, discord, the forums, youtube, twitch, etc. but not so much for the wiki.

::::::I will say this again, though, if the video creator (or anyone else) can create a clear, concise instructional video, I have no problem providing a very brief summary of the strat and then linking to the video (with appropriate disclaimers that the technique may be difficult). We're just not there yet, not with the video we have been referring to in our discussion. [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 22:12, 8 September 2022 (UTC)

:::::::Sorry to hear that :( Like I said earlier, it's not easy to explain this in a short sentence or two, because it involves several tiny steps. That's why it is better to see it in action, so people can easier connect the words to actions and consequences. I hoped to get this information onto the wiki so others can try their hand at it too, but I understand if it is deemed as too "heavy".

:::::::As an aside, I have never tried animation cancelling, and don't see how that has much value outside of actual speedruns, which from what I understand are measured on real-time instead of in-game time. Because animation basically stops the in-game clock anyway (e.g., NPCs and the clock stop), so normal playing doesn't have much if any benefit I think? I look at this stairs technique differently, because all the tools for it are there in a vanilla game, no need for external programs or macros or whatever. The short of it is you hit pause on floor load, hold down mouse buttons on unpause, and down you go. It does work on other platforms too btw, but apparently not as well as on PC, because it can be more tricky to place stairs quickly on other platforms. Don't have personal experience with that, because I only have the game on PC, but others on the forum said as much.

:::::::Perhaps you have made up your mind to not include it, but here is a different and [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkBpk2kqd1w shorter video] about the technique. Personally I think Godzilla explained it better, but maybe this is more fitting anyway? In any case, if it isn't included here, I hope other players are able to stumble across it on the forum or other places it may be discussed. Going that deep has been a lot of fun for me, and breathed new life into the game with a new type of challenge. I merely wanted others to have the same chance, and figured the wiki has a lot more eyes on it than the forum or very specific threads on reddit. == Maki Roll - To put on Fish page or not? ==
+
Hello! I just realized that there are two pages and sets of images for the same furniture object. I think the confusion comes from the difference in item ID (Couple Elixirs) vs displayed name (Two Elixirs). I wasn't sure which page and image file to mark for deletion, so I just wanted to let you know in case you want to move things around. Hi Margotbean, I've only been here for half a year. I noticed that a few fish, when used in the Maki Roll, are profitable, even if you buy the rice. Where do you think I should put this- just on the Maki Roll page, or on both the Maki Roll page and the fish page?

:Hello Jxy31, the normal place to put profitability info is on the [[Maki Roll]] page and under [[Cooking#Profitable Recipes]]. (See the [[Bread]] page for example.) Are you sure the recipe is profitable, though? If you purchase [[rice]] at Pierre's, you pay {{price|200}}, and the lowest selling fish is the periwinkle at {{price|20}}, which makes you break even. (If you factor in seaweed at {{price|20}}, you actually lose money.) I think you need to say the recipe is profitable when using rice from the mill, and fish worth {{price|100}} or less. (220g - 20g for seaweed - 100g for rice). Am I looking at this wrong? [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 19:27, 3 September 2022 (UTC)

::Yes, that makes sense. At this point, my logic is: Rice costs 200 g, Maki Roll sells for 220 g, Rice sells for 100 g, Seaweed sells 20 g apiece, any fish that sells for less than 100 g is barely profitable. You need to start with a lot of fish, seaweed, and at least 200 g for this plan to work. Should I bring this up? [[User:Jxy31|Jxy31]] ([[User talk:Jxy31|talk]]) 00:44, 4 September 2022 (UTC) If you don't understand, don't worry, it's complicated and BARELY worth it and probably not worth the time.

:::I didn't realize it was a plan, simply a statement about profitability. Players are absolutely obsessed with min/maxing this game, so I think it's worth noting a profitable recipe, even if it has conditions (like using rice from the Mill and fish worth less than 100g). Since of me playing and me being afflicted with the [[Monster Musk]], [[Oil of Garlic]], [[Putrid Ghost]], [[Shadow Sniper]], or [[Squid Ink Ravioli]] debuffs, the in-game description boxes do not have a full stop at the end of the sentence, which really bugs me because the [[Buffs]] page does have a full stop, the [[Buffs]] in-game do not have it. Hey, thought I should let you know that you missed the majority of new Flooring options added in 1.6. 32 regular, numbered flooring options were added in 1.6 (in "walls_and_floors.xnb"), in addition to the 9 "MoreFloors:X" floors. I'd address the issue myself, but I'm not sure exactly how you were extracting item icons from the game, given I was unable to find anything other the actual floor textures. These 32 numbered floors are all available from the regular catalogue, between (FL)55 (the pink love hearts one, old highest index floor) and MoreFloors:0 (the new dark wood planks). This also messes up the indexing for floor images, which might require admin powers to fix. [[User:Sicarious|Sicarious]] ([[User talk:Sicarious|talk]]) 13:43, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Would it be okay with you if I made a new template for the Content\Data\NPCDispositions (The file where Friends and Family are stored), and then change the Villagerbox template to read from that? It'd be easily translated since the game has the Dispositions saved for all the languages that the game supports.

Since NPC friends aren't something that change, and people keep griefing the pages and dictating who NPCs are friends with. The Spanish page for [[Emily]] still has [[Clint]] listed as a friend.

[[User:TheElm|TheElm]] ([[User talk:TheElm|talk]]) 20:06, 25 September 2022 (UTC)

:That's been something I've been looking into doing myself, but there are problems. Linus is pretty objectively friends with Leo, but that's not in NPCDispositions.xnb. I believe there's dialogue saying Carolyn & Jodi are friends as well, again, that's not in NPCDispositions.xnb. So, it would involve changing the field from "Friends" to "Non-family who give gifting hints", which is a pretty terrible heading for an infobox. It would also require translation into 11 other languages. Not as simple as I would like. I'm still looking for other options...[[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 21:33, 25 September 2022 (UTC)

::Technically the wiki template of the NPCDispositions doesn't have to be an exact copy of the game version, but then it sort of becomes subjective I suppose. Just something so that it's partially lockable without locking entire pages (Just lock the template). Definitely better to keep editing open to the public, but seems a nuisance that people keep trying to make the same changes every few weeks.

:: It'd be like a template within a template, like <nowiki>{{friendsOf {{PAGENAME}}}}</nowiki> in Template:Infobox_villager

::[[User:TheElm|TheElm]] ([[User talk:TheElm|talk]]) 00:01, 26 September 2022 (UTC)

:::In the interest of "other options", I offer the following.

:::What about "Friends who give gift advice?" This would actually change it to be the advice givers rather than the people about whom advice is given, but isn't that actually more useful? I would be more likely to wonder (on Jodi's page, say), "Where can I find gift advice about Jodi?" than I am to wonder, "Who does Jodi give gift advice about?"

:::Do family members always give gift advice about each other? If so, perhaps the Family and Friends sections could be merged into "Gift advice from:". You could still leave the labels for family members and add the (Friend) label for everyone else.

:::I realize both of these proposals would result in Clint being on Emily's page. That was not what I set out to do. But ultimately, I want to make the Wiki as useful as possible and as easy to maintain as possible. I think ease of maintenance would happen no matter which "direction" you went, but reversing the direction makes it more useful (to the extent that knowing this is useful in the first place).

:::Of course, you could leave the "direction" the way it is with only a small modification to the changes I suggested. [[User:Zendowolf|Zendowolf]] ([[User talk:Zendowolf|talk]]) 11:00, 27 September 2022 (UTC)

::::The game code reads from index 9 of <samp>NPCDispositions.xnb</samp>. The field lists all family members and their relationship to the NPC. It also lists some non-family, with a blank space for relationship. In certain cases, the love interest (index 6) isn't listed in index 9, indicating the two people are friends, but give no gifting hints about each other (''e.g.,'' Alex & Haley, Elliott & Leah).

::::What I suggested earlier was basically "Friends who give gifting advice"... It's too long for an Infobox heading. "Gift advice from:" is better, but still requires translation into 11 other languages. We'd also be losing friendship info that isn't in index 9 of <samp>NPCDispositions.xnb</samp>. As I mentioned before, Leo & Linus are pretty objectively friends, as are Emily & Sandy, but none of that is listed in the data file. == Crab_Pot Numbers ==

Hey Margotbean,

I'm relatively new to Stardew Valley, but I've had heaps of fun going through the wiki and the corresponding code in the decompiled game code, my hobby in game is fishing. I was looking at just how good crab pots are, running the numbers, using the data provided in the wiki, and noticed a few inconsistencies and things missing I felt could add depth.

<!--[[File:CrabPotFisherAnglerSashimi.png|thumb|Fisher + Angler + Sashimi ]]

[[File:CrabPotFisherSashimi.png|thumb|Fisher + Sashimi ]]

[[File:CrabPotFisherAngler.png|thumb|Fisher + Angler]]

[[File:CrabPotFisher.png|thumb|Fisher]]

-->

First - I think the numbers on the crab pot page, 'Gold Per Day' section, are incorrect. Only by a little (in the case of the freshwater figure, it's by a decimal amount), but incorrect.

Second - I think the page would do very well to expand on the intricacies of whether or not someone is a fisher, angler, and or turning low worth fish into sashimi. As it stands, the section implies mariners profit far more from crab pots, but fishers and anglers can do very well for themselves with them as well. I haven't done the math on how mariner affects earnings, but the math is relatively straightforward so I assume it's correct. But I wonder whether a table would do well in the section, something like

{| class="wikitable"

|+ Ocean Gold Per Day

|-

! Skill(s) !! No cooking !! Cooking

|-

| None || 49.77 || 62.17

|-

| Fisher || 57.59 || 65.27

|-

| Angler || 65.41 || 69.85

|-

| Mariner || ??? || 81.4

|}

Let me know what you think. I'd be happy to run the numbers on the mariner profession as well to find the Gold/Day without sashimi.

Hey there again, I was wondering if you could make a template like the Carpenter's Shop, Casino, etc for the Desert Festival. Since there are so many items that now require Calico Eggs to be purchased. Plus, it would make the infobox look a lot neater and be easier if any future items needed to be added. [[User:Emily Romano|Emily Romano]] ([[User talk:Emily Romano|talk]]) 18:53, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
:I appreciate the amount of work you've put into this, but the bottom line is that it's a trivia item on the page, and even under the best circumstances, the gold per day isn't mind-blowing. Given that, I don't think expanding the section in great length is warranted. You should definitely make any corrections you feel are right, and explain them on the talk page.

:Having said that, a table like the one you've created above instead of text would be fine, but all the calculations that went into it have to be explained on the talk page. ...Preferably in as concise, succinct, and short a manner as possible.

:That brings us to the next problem: as a new user, you can't post external links. A link to a google doc would be far preferable to a screenshot of a spreadsheet. People want to be able to examine the cells for the underlying calculations. So, if you have posted the info to a google drive, I highly recommend linking to it, rather than reproducing it all on the talk page.

:If you try to post a link, you'll get an error message, but I'll be able to see the link in the spam log, and I can add it to the page.

:I hope this answers your question(s)! A bit of "yes" and a bit of "no, not so much, just a summary instead". Thanks, and please let me know if anything I've said has been unclear! [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 18:40, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

There's a few items not on the shipping collection page and I'm working really hard to reach perfection but I can't figure out what 5 of the items are. One looks likes a first and the others look like containers of some kind? I'd attach an image but I don't know how to. Hello. I have managed to knock down the file size on my museum collection image to 237 KB by turning scaling down to 75% (same as the original) and using PNGGauntlet - assuming Wiki doesn't recompress PNGs. Am I allowed to upload it as a new version of the existing image, and if not, what would be the best way to go about it? [[User:Equo|Equo]] ([[User talk:Equo|talk]]) 01:49, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

== Temporary Lock on Farmhouse page? ==
:Hello Equo! If it's important to you, then you can upload the image as a new version of the existing image. If you don't see any change in the image, wait up to 5 hours for the server to refresh. (I've repeatedly asked the server people to fix this wait time, but to no avail!) If you do see your image, then great! The wiki doesn't recompress .png images, but PNGGauntlet may cause issues with transparency. Wait until you see your new image properly, and then assess the transparency. If it looks good, you're done. If not... get back to me. I can try to compress it in Photoshop with 8-bit depth. OK? [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 01:59, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

::It appears as though the image got updated, but it's cut off at the bottom for some reason, yet the thumbnail shows the full picture. Is this a temporary bug or is the image actually corrupted? [[User:Equo|Equo]] ([[User talk:Equo|talk]]) 05:44, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

:::Well, it's corrupted somewhere, but not on the wiki, and not in cloudflare. [[:File:Hilltop Farm.png]] suffers from the same problem. I've been asking the server people to try to track down the cause of this error for months, but it's apparently more difficult than it seems. I will let them know about the new image, perhaps there is something they can do. I'm so sorry! [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 14:53, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

I was going to make pages for the new cushions that don't have pages yet (yellow, green, red, etc. from the regular furniture catalogue) but I saw the textbox saying that the page I was trying to create had recently been deleted, then linked me here to see discussion about it. I didn't see any discussion, so I'm sorry if I'm missing something! I didn't create any of the pages yet, but I was curious what was wrong with them, because I thought we had all the information to create them. :Anyway, the explanation, as I described: I summed up all the days of the year, omitted winter days, accounted for the guaranteed-sunny days, the guaranteed rainy days, and per the data on [[Modding:Weather data]] (which is in the game code, explaining how the daily weather works), applied the probabilities (as stated on the reference page) for each day across the year (summer having its own separate probabilities) to come up with the 69 number. I searched after and discovered I was not the first one to do this.

:Hello Spiderkace! What's your question? [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 01:19, 8 November 2022 (UTC)

::Not so much a question but just looking to discuss the changes. Game code indicates Catfish is available in Winter in Rivers and Farm Maps Spring, Fall, and Winter while raining. It is also available in Summer/Winter in the Secret Woods while Raining. I guess the piece I'm getting hung up on besides grammar or formatting in which, obviously you would have the final say, is the Witch's Hut which is available during all seasons regardless of weather (as it's "indoors") and a Rain Totem wouldn't be needed. Would it be better to just exclude the Witch's Hut from the Bundles page (as the Community Center has likely been completed by this point and/or a Catfish probably has been caught before the Witch's Hut)? I was trying to get around this with phrasing the topic slightly differently than the other fish given its... unique situations. I suppose this also applies to the [[Catfish]] page itself, not just [[Bundles]]. <br /> <br /> Also, is there a reason the Bundles page doesn't have a TOC? ::[[User:Spiderkace|Spiderkace]] ([[User talk:Spiderkace|talk]]) 14:05, 8 November 2022 (UTC)

::: Do we know if indoor areas ignore the location context's weather? Cuz in my reading, it doesn't. [[User:Atravita|Atravita]] ([[User talk:Atravita|talk]]) 14:46, 8 November 2022 (UTC)

::::That is the question! No one should be changing the wiki until we have confirmed the information in-game (by stepping through the code or otherwise). Right now, I don't know if the Witch's Swamp follows weather outside for the purposes of fishing. I also haven't thoroughly tested the alternate farms' maps for fishing.

::::As we've seen before, reading the code itself can be misleading. Values can be assigned and never used. Values also get assigned, and then changed at the last minute in unexpected places (such as when drawing the popup dialog box).

::::So, we need to proceed with caution here.

::::The Bundles page has a TOC, it's at the top right of the page. ;) [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 17:09, 8 November 2022 (UTC)

:::::Disregard Bundles TOC, I'm blind.

:::::If the code isn't to be trusted, what is? If the code indicates one thing, and the game displays another, is that not a bug versus incorrect information? I'm cross-referencing data from Data\Locations, Data\Fish, and the game code at Farm.cs. I can understand the interior locations conundrum, but I'm only going down this rabbit hole because I found (what I thought) was missing or incorrect information with Sunfish locations, where two wiki pages stated one thing but a third indicated something else, which made me dig into the game code to find out what was really going on. Say the word and I'll stop but I'm spending a lot of time trying to find the correct information via the source itself.

:::::Also, what did you mean about the map for Carp? Carp is correctly showing the Mountain Lake, are you saying it's not showing Bug Lair, Sewers, and Secret Woods as well? What is the limit for the map? Where is the map pulling its information from? What if we could do something like making a .png manually instead of pulling from wherever it pulls now to keep consistency with the other pages? == wicked statue image ==

I noticed the Fiber Seeds wiki page didn't show the crafting section on the sidebar, so I edited it to add that back in, as I noticed you had hidden it. I then realized my comment on my changes wasn't following the nice format of saying what you changed, so I undid that change, and then just undid your initial change that made it hidden. I forgot to tag those last 2 as minor edits though, so I hope all of these shenanigans didn't cause too much trouble! Why exactly did you revert my edit of the wicked statue image? The crafting recipe for it gives the variant without red eyes, so I feel that that's the better "default" image for it. Though, when I uploaded it, it seems that cloudflare had cached the old version, so the new image didn't show up properly (see the comment i left in the page source of [[Wicked Statue]]). [[User:Trillian|~trillian]] ([[User talk:Trillian|talk]]) 16:48, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

:Perhaps a better question might be "Why ''exactly'' did you upload images without reading the section on images in [[Help:Editing]]?"
 +
:To answer your question ''exactly'': I had no idea what you were doing, replacing an image from 2017 that's used on multiple pages (including templates) in 12 languages. Perhaps a better choice would be to upload a new image without glowing eyes and name it appropriately, for use in the infobox on 12 pages total. [[User:Margotbean|margotbean]] ([[User talk:Margotbean|talk]]) 16:58, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
 +
::Because every single use of that image, in both templates and pages, refers to the statue item, which does not have glowing eyes in the Crafting menu, or when it's in the player's inventory, or 99% of the time when it's placed in the world. Which is why I changed the old image and uploaded the previous version under a different name. I fail to see how anything in the images section of Help:Editing is related to this, though I guess I could have added more edit summaries. Most Helpful Contribution (Especially From New Editors)

Hi, I’ve been checking out the recent changes page every so often for a while now in anticipation of the new release and it’s clear that you have a lot on your hands. The “Help Editing” page doesn’t give any pointers towards the kind of changes that would be most helpful to you and the wiki, so (a) I was wondering if you had any in mind (or if there’s a “wanted tasks” list that I missed!)

Two more related questions -

(b) if a user spots vandalism before you get to it, do you prefer that they leave it to you or revert the change?

(c) the “help editing” page says that changes in formatting should be applied across all languages. What exactly does that encompass? I assume new information can be added to only one language, but what about adding a new section to an article?

And finally, one question that is only partially related - (d) do you think it could be worth adding a note to Emily’s page explaining why Clint isn’t one of her friends, as this seems to be a common cause of confusion and incorrect edits? I’m sure this is on her talk page but it may be worth adding to the actual page for those users who only read the wiki. --Gravy (talk) 22:27, 2 January 2024 (UTC)

Hello Gravy! I haven't had a "help wanted" list since v1.3, so, no, there's nothing I can point you to. After v1.6 releases, it's going to be a free-for-all, so knock yourself out then (so to speak). :D
You should clean up vandalism if you see it. You should not take it personally! I appreciate vandalism clean-up!
Changes to existing formatting require discussion, adding a new section (if it's substantial) should also be discussed. When version 1.6 is released, new information will be added without discussing formatting, as people discover it. New pages and sections will be added, and no one is expected to add them to all 12 languages. But until then, formatting changes encompass everything on the wiki.
As for Emily and Clint, they may well be friends after v1.6 is released. There is new dialogue being added, so we may (or may not) see more of their relationship being revealed. I don't know. The basis for "friendship" was always "if they give a gifting hint, they're friends, otherwise not." But I added a table for that and removed the field from the infobox on each villager's page, so their friendship is subjective and open to interpretation now. I don't think we need to take action until after v1.6 is released.
I'll update Help:Editing to reflect that some of the "rules" don't apply to version 1.6 as well. Happy Farming! margotbean (talk) 19:44, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

Quarry Floors in The Dangerous Mines

In The Mines, dungeon floors are a type of floor that spawns in The Mines after The Player enters the Quarry Mine for the first time. The floors spawn Haunted Skulls, copper and iron slimes, copper and iron nodes. I added a blurb to the quarry section of the Mines Page, just so you know. Have I done something wrong when doing this? 9000 (talk) 5:57, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

The Main Page not updating its image

In the Main Page of this Wiki, it has an image to the right of the Stardew Valley logo, which changes depending on the month of the year, the main page image changes to "Banner Right Winter" in the following months: December, January, and February. This is an image of George's House in Winter. And in December of 2023, the main page image didn't get updated. Should we set up a code in the Wiki where it automatically updates the main page image, instead of you editing the page too many times? 9000 (talk) 4:51, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

Hello Margot, since v1.6 is right around the corner, there's gonna be a lot of files that need to be uploaded, including 12 different languages. Who's gonna do all of the files? Is it gonna be margotbean (talk) or Pathoschild (talk) (This is an example because they're both translators)? Fertilizer

Giles (talk) 20:43, 13 February 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up! You may find that I'm so frazzled, I don't care what you change... (Don't tell anyone, though!)
I don't know how close v1.6 is, there are a fair few bugs to be fixed, but when it's released you might find some things have changed with regard to fertilizer. The alpha change notes (Modding:Migrate to Stardew Valley 1.6#Vanilla release notes) already contain a change to tilled soil underneath seasonal Wild Seeds on Ginger Island, so if you're going to deal with those type of seeds, there may be even more changes with v1.6. You may find a bug specific to v1.6 as well, although I hope not.
Anyway, thanks again for the heads up. Please proceed with your project, and have fun! margotbean (talk) 23:00, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
And thanks for the v1.6 heads up, too. Giles (talk) 00:25, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

Reversing revisions with links

Hello Margot, in my Contributions for 9000, there are a bunch of revisions of lowercasing links, we previously changed lowercase to capitals, but you didn't like that and got cross, we then started lowercasing every link there exists, but you are reversing our edits without giving a reason. Can you please stop doing it? Are you reversing yourself now, do you think that lower is caps now, or do you just not like changing links? Please reply and thank you. 9000 (talk) 08:14, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

Your edits are not productive, they do not improve the wiki, but they do make more work for me at a very busy time. I understand that you may feel the urge to contribute, but you are simply not helping to make the wiki better. Thank you. margotbean (talk) 21:41, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
Hello Margot, I promise I'll stop doing edits like this, but the reason that this was done is because English only uses capitals for the start of a sentence or proper nouns, such as Villager names in Stardew Valley. If you use too many capitals in a sentence, it may lose the flow of writing in English, due to how many capitals there is. 9000 (talk) 05:41, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

Enforcing Rules that don't exist

Something strange has caught my attention in my two days of being on the Stardew Valley wiki. Every single edit of mine has been deleted or reversed. Strange?... I look at the revision history of all the changes I have made, and something strange sticks out to me. All of the changes done by you? What a coincidence! So my intuition tells me that "maybe I'm breaking some sort of rule?". So I go onto the "help page" but when I scroll down to read it I don't see a single rule stating that what I did was wrong?

Here are some of the rules I have "broken"..

  • as both a Console and PC player, I noticed that some features available on PC are not available to be accessed on Console (e.g., Some Profile Easter eggs like clicking on Haley's picture) .
  • the glitches page: You had a discussion? No, you didn't. I can see past logs. You know that, right? You came to an agreement with yourself that that page shouldn't exist. Adding onto that, your original gripe with the first version of the page was that it was dedicated to a single glitch. My new page was devoted to a plethora of glitches not jus the single one you had a problem with.
  • Guys can get pregnant. Yeah, you heard that? Not every person who sets their farmer to male has a pair of testicles. If I were a trans guy, I think I would like to know if my farmer is getting pregnant or my spouse or if I had an option.
  • I literally uses the exact same format as the other info on the heart event page.

Honestly I feel like It would make everybody's life's easier if we had an actual formatting rules page instead a single page that doesn't really say mutch. BortVonFinklestein (talk) 21:43, 17 February 2024 (UTC)

If you read the sections on Editing and Formatting, you may notice that large-scale changes need to be discussed first. As for the rest, you will find that getting upset will get you nowhere.
If players using a controller cannot access the villagers' moving portraits, that's a bug that needs to be reported on the forums. It's most definitely not intentional.
If you wish to take up the issue of gender with ConcernedApe, you wouldn't be the first. I suggest you use the forums or email him. margotbean (talk) 22:21, 17 February 2024 (UTC)

Golden eggs from fishing treasure chests at low fishing levels

Hello Margot, in the fishing page, the golden egg is one of the possible rewards from fishing treasure, with this item, it can be processed in mayonnaise machines to produce 3 gold quality mayonnaise, or it can be put in the incubator to hatch the golden chicken. This item requires perfection to be able to appear in treasure chests. Leveling up all of the skills to the max is required to reach perfection, though the page says that you need fishing level 2 or more to snag this item, it can only be caught when the player reaches perfection. This is very interesting in the page, please reply. Thank you. 9000 (talk) 09:45, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

I've removed the fishing level required, since it's superceded by perfection. margotbean (talk) 17:00, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

Emily at 2 Hearts

In Emily's 2 Heart cutscene, which is triggered by entering Emily's House, the Wiki used to be incorrect. It used to say Enter Emily's house. This cutscene cannot be triggered when Emily is not at her house. The user Clashccc (talk) corrected the page, you need to enter the game's code to see if it is actually true. The page User:Margotbean/HeartEventTriggers used and still says it right now, it says Emily's House. This needs to be corrected. Thanks. 9000 (talk) 05:55, 2 March 2024 (UTC)

Please release yourself from worry about pages in my personal user space. And please be aware that this is an incredibly busy time, since v1.6 is going to release on March 21. Please make your edits and your requests with that in mind. margotbean (talk) 06:13, 2 March 2024 (UTC)

1.6 Release Date

Hi, I have two quick questions - 1) concernedape's twitter seems to say v1.6 will be released on the 19th, but in your above reply you said 21st. Did I miss something somewhere? (just wanted to make sure both for myself and in case you accidentally had the wrong date down!) 2) is it worth adding the release date to the main page? I know this is something you would have to do and it's only two weeks away, so it may not be, but not everyone has an X/twitter account and seeing the announcement tweet is difficult without it for some reason (I had to follow a link from an article to see it). Gravy (talk) 01:22, 3 March 2024 (UTC)

Difficult, yes. I have tried the same and was unsuccessful. And I refuse to create social media accounts for myself since they are too much overhead in my life. I'd appreciate this kind of info on the website whenever possible. Giles (talk) 05:18, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
The release date is indeed March 19, the first day of Spring, not the 21st. https://twitter.com/ConcernedApe/status/1762192764899627457 margotbean (talk) 16:44, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
:) Margot, the first day of Spring is March 21st. Perhaps that's why you were thinking about the 21st. Giles (talk) 23:04, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
Eureka!! That's it!! Thank you Giles!! margotbean (talk) 17:16, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
Hi, do you all know when 1.6 is out for console? Last time I checked it said "As soon as Possible" but that was a little while ago. THX! ItsMe101 (talk) 12:28, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Stone Golems

Hello Margot, in the Monster Eradication Goals, the category for Cave Insects includes bugs, dangeous bugs, cave flies, dangerous cave flies, grubs, dangerous grubs, mutant flies, mutant grubs, and stone golems. But what this is talking about is the stone golem, prior to v1.5, the monster used to be named Zombies, and had their own category, but this is very odd, if you killed this monster, it wouldn't apply to the Cave Insects category, but to the Zombies category. The Zombies category was removed and applied to Cave Insects to v1.5. 9000 (talk) 05:58, 8 March 2024 (UTC)

There never was a category called "Zombies", and killing Stone Golems never counted towards any monster eradication goals. margotbean (talk) 14:43, 8 March 2024 (UTC)

Meteorites in multiplayer

The Meteorite that spawns on the farm is a random event that has a 1% chance of being chosen when the player sleeps overnight. The meteorite appears in a random location within the farm and destroys any crops or crafted flooring within that area. If you mine a meteorite, it drops 6 iridium ore, 6 stone, and 2 geodes, but if you play in multiplayer, the amount of items dropped counts towards how many people are playing, such as playing with 4 players drops 24 iridium ore, 24 stone, and 8 geodes, which also allows four iridium bars to be smelted in a furnace, instead of just one iridium bar as an extra note. 9000 (talkcontributions) 08:24, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

Crafting Ingredients

Susb8383 (talk) 21:16, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

Yes, yes, and yes. Oh, and I'm sorry about the RSV wiki!
Yes, your longer format is fine if you feel it's helpful, and yes, we can build the tables once v1.6 is released. I would strongly prefer a link to the page, so that the page would be "Crafting/Ingredients" (a sub-page of Crafting) and then a simple link to it under a heading "Ingredients".
And yes, the Cooking page should be the same! (!!)
Otherwise, we'll concentrate on Crafting for now, start creating the tables in 2 days, and then migrating the changes to the other languages will be part of v1.6 changes, more likely for translators to pick up and do themselves.
Long story short, thank you, thank you, and thank you! margotbean (talk) 21:45, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

Updating page to reference .NET 6 instead of .NET 5 after latest SMAPI update 4.1.1

Hi. I would like to add information about the change with recent update to the SMAPI. Right now it requires .NET 6 not as previously .NET 5, but I'm not allowed. Specifculy I'm talking about this Wiki Page Editing Modding:Modder Guide/Get Started

where to cover details for secret or hidden boxes?

i noticed that you deleted a page i just created because of the name, which is understandable as it's not a great name. i just picked that name because these boxes have similar interaction like the first package upon starting a new save for the first time. should i just cover the details of these boxes in the respective locations' pages for now, or do i hold on to them for now until a page is decided for it?

(few of the boxes' locations have already been mentioned in some pages like in Tent Kit and Books pages.) - Sooji gooji (talk) 19:39, 20 March 2024 (UTC)

Mossy Tree

Hi, following the removal of references to Mossy Tree, I've planted a Mossy Seed in my farm and the following tree grew out of it (see pic), is this not a mossy tree?

Hello anonymous! If you're not sure, why are you editing the wiki? margotbean (talk) 19:55, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
Sorry, forgot my tildes! I tried to upload an image to show you the new tree. YuvixAdun (talk) 19:56, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
S'all right. My last response may have sounded snippy, but it's a serious question. If you're not sure, then why make changes to the wiki? If you are sure, then there's no discussion. See what I mean? margotbean (talk) 20:03, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
Okay, lesson learned! I am curious what that new tree is, but lets find out! :) YuvixAdun (talk) 20:14, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
Okay, I'll take that to heart also. It's sort of me who raised the question, but I did it by entering misinformation into the articles. My instincts are pretty good, but not infallible. I can also get in too deep by intending to do wordsmithing, and drifting into fuzzy details. Sorry for any confusions. Giles (talk) 21:26, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
Hey guys, no need to apologize -- please read the response to the question below! margotbean (talk) 16:44, 23 March 2024 (UTC)

Mossy Seed - Tree Variations

Hello anonymous editor! The fact is, there is no in-game name for these trees, and I don't know what to call them to differentiate them from other trees that have moss on them. If we stick to the game files, then they are "Green Rain Trees". They all start with the green rain event.
I think we should discuss the proper name for them, and try (try!) to decide quickly, before the name gets copied into 11 other languages and becomes an indelible part of history. If we have already decided on "Mossy Tree" then we need to be explicit about the difference between a "Mossy Tree" and a tree with Moss on it. Because "Mossy Trees" come with and without moss on them. 🥴 margotbean (talk) 16:44, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
Just chipping into this discussion, I agree that calling is Mossy Tree is a bit confusing with the other trees which can also have Moss on them. I think this name comes from the fact that these trees can be grown using Mossy Seed, which is a bit of a misnomer since its not necessarily moss related. Perhaps 'Green Rain Trees' is the best we can do.YuvixAdun (talk) 17:23, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
Adding my bit since I've been helping do some research and editing for the Mossy Seed and Mossy Tree Wiki pages. From what I've seen, The trees have been labelled as the Fiddlehead Stalk and the Wild Trees(as there are two of these variations) by the community. The other editor and I were in the process of asking an admin(not sure who) how to handle formatting of a seed that produces 3 variations of tree, but the Mossy Tree wiki page seems to be no more.Tmh 3:08 PM, 23 March 2024 (CST)
i was gonna suggest to name the new tree just "wild tree" as it's mentioned in both the mossy seed and mushroom log's descriptions (that log seems to work the best with these trees), but i'm not sure now since those other seed trees could also be considered "wild" 😅 Sooji gooji (talk) 21:30, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
Hey, there's been a discussion here about various "Green Rain Tree" things, but I'll repeat my latest post there. Brandon Echols (talk) 00:29, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
Ok, quick update. I sent out a small poll in the discord, and I have some naming preference results. "Mossy Trees" (with the notice at the top of the page) is unanimously preferred. I feel that, because of this, the title should be reverted. Brandon Echols (talk) 00:46, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
I'll probably just go ahead and proceed with these preferred names, as we can always change them/move the pages in the future. I feel that it is more beneficial to have the information published sooner with a minimal error, than for it to not exist at all. Brandon Echols (talk) 00:51, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
Ok, quite a bit has happened. I feel that it should stay as "Green Rain Trees" so forget everything I said above. This is mainly because "Wild Trees" is a new concept that consists of all trees in the wild. Because of this, Wild Tree would need to be moved to a page called Bushy Mossy Tree and Lush Wild Tree needs to be moved to Leafy Mossy Tree. These Bushy and Leafy adjectives actually come from the game code so it’s official. This also means that the Mossy Tree page can be changed to a “disambiguation page” (a list of what it may mean) of sorts. I can handle this, as long as you take the protection off that page, though. :) And don't worry-I'll make sure to add plenty of "Not to be confused with..." notices. I know this is a confusing topic, but I believe that this is the least confusing method. Margotbean, because you have the permission to move pages, I would appreciate if you could do this. :) Brandon Echols (talk) 02:25, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
Related discussion and information: Talk:Green_Rain_Trees YuvixAdun (talk) 08:05, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
Yep, so the new names aren't official yet; They should not be changed; not yet. Brandon Echols (talk) 17:22, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
Believe it or not, I'm just fine with taking no action at all for now. Well, on this subject anyway. 😁 I really have a lot of other work to do (on the wikis)! Cheers, margotbean (talk) 17:26, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

Page for Fireworks

Hello Margotbean, back in 2022, I created a page on Fireworks, but you deleted it because it was an unobtainable item, v1.6 officially added Fireworks, which are obtained from Mr. Qi's walnut room on Ginger Island, and cost 1 Qi gem each. I am working on pages for the individual colours. Thanks. 9000 (talkcontributions) 05:34, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

Adding Gifting section on new items

Hi, im new to the wiki, ive been experimenting and writing down the likes and dislikes of the new items for the villagers. I recently added the Gifting section to Dried Mushrooms. Is this too big of an edit for a new editor? Im new to editing so i apologize if i step on any toes. If what im doing is acceptable for the Dried Mushroom ill move onto the other items with gifting once I finish Dried Mushrooms. Thanks. Im also not sure how to add the date and my name (TheyCallMePie is my editor name) Ill try adding the "TheyCallMePie (talk) 02:53, 26 March 2024 (UTC)" at the end to see if that works, im not familiar with formatting on here yet. Again, apologies for my newness, ill check back on this to see if someone responds tomorrow. TheyCallMePie (talk) 02:54, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

1.6 Fish Code changes

Thanks. User314159 (talk) 20:57, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

That's quite a task to take on, thank you very much, I appreciate it! margotbean (talk) 21:30, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

Trying new template

Hi Margotbean, I want to try and add a new template to make it easier to include a reference to a specific mastery, like

{{Mastery|Farming}}

which would then generate an icon and a link to the mastery page. I'm not familiar with creating templates (yet!), but can I just add and try to get it to work or is there some playground I can test in? Obviously I'll add it in all 12 languages :) YuvixAdun (talk) 05:51, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but now is not the best time to be creating a new template, especially one requiring unofficial translations (like "Mastery Cave"). Margotbean

Inventory, Tabs, Player Menu

One more element to this: Mastery. The Mastery Tab displays just the Powers of the masteries, not all the effects of them. The Mastery Cave article certainly could be used to put all mastery features together, but that would probably mean listing the powers there as well, introducing replication, yet the tab needs the info also.

So I'm asking for guidance on how the Wiki should be structured, for all of us. But I'm also asking for terminology intent, that the texts may be clear. It's certainly a bundle!

There's also a little matter of how the player is supposed to be able to track progress towards the next mastery level in-game, when the Mastery Tab doesn't seem to give that information. I've got that on Talk:Mastery Cave too, but if you know... Thanks for your patience! Giles (talk) 02:08, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

I can address some of that!
When I get the chance to breathe, I can make more wiki changes. margotbean (talk) 16:43, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
Thanks! The more I look at it, the more I'm inclined towards the idea of a Player Menu article. I could write up a good intro right now, starting with the clarifications you just gave me. It would need an image - of the default display when it pops up. But that's essentially the "Inventory Screen" section of Inventory right now, which needs updating anyway. Splitting off that part of Inventory would lead to two short articles, true, but it would also make distinct the shift between global and local foci of topics and emphasize where all the many tab articles are centered. Just a thought. Giles (talk) 18:24, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
Second thought, in place of the original above. Perhaps Player Menu could be a name redirect in the article space - to Inventory. Inventory is the way it pops up, and separate sections could be devoted to the two purposes, with the need for only one image to oversee all, and wording to avoid duplications. Giles (talk) 23:15, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

Name change + code reference question

Hi, just made this account to make some edits but realized too late I didn't add an "x" to the end of my username to make it "Gofer2x". It's my usual username and I'd prefer to keep it consistent across sites. I've looked online and Mediawiki seems to let admins change usernames, could you change it for me if not a problem?

Also, I want to dig through the code and add some references to some wiki pages. But if the relevant code is in a bigger function (like several hundred lines long), do I only point to the function or add extra details (e.g. Foo.Bar::Baz, case 35? I imagine a line number could also work but it could differ across setups.

I'm sorry, I'm unable to change usernames.
When giving code references, how specific you want to get is up to you. I wouldn't add line numbers or case numbers, because decompilers can change those. But adding something simple like "the use case for 'nameOfCase'" would be fine.
Please remember to sign your posts with 4 tildes! Thanks! margotbean (talk) 16:30, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
Hello from my new account, then. And yeah, that's a good point (haven't even considered case numbers potentially being problematic). I'll do my best, I suppose. Thanks! Gofer2x (talk) 23:51, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

Legendary Fish in Fish Ponds

Hello Margotbean, we was just looking under the different legendary fish, and we noticed that they can be put in fish ponds now, as we just noticed roe and aged roe in the different pages. Note that this does not include the Legendary Fish II. 9000 (talkcontributions) 21:30, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

You can get the roe now because of the Jewels of the Sea book, which allows you to get roe from Fishing Treasure Chests. They still cannot be put in Fish Ponds. User314159 (talk) 22:48, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

Trout Derby edits

An Error 503 occurred while I was trying to edit the Trout Derby page, so I copied the page with my new edits so it wouldn't get lost. After the errors subsided ~10 minutes later I pasted the new text and submitted but the old text didn't get fully deleted for whatever reason which resulted in duplicating content. I fixed that immediately afterwards. Just letting you know in case you were wondering about those edits. User314159 (talk) 22:48, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

No worries, thanks for the explanation! margotbean (talk) 16:36, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

Parrot Egg missing info

Hello Margotbean, I noticed that Parrot egg page was missing some crucial information (lack of which made me personally stressed out until i found out), so I added it in. I am unsure whether my writing style is up to the standards, but I beg you not to remove that information. The game does not reforge the trinket if your total earnings are under 750,000. But it still takes the materials. It feels like it is a bug, as nowhere it is mentioned that you must have earned a specific amount of gold before being able to have a higher level companion. I believe its for everyone's benefit to keep that information. I have messaged you on discord for better communication, as I am open to discussions or changes that I have to make in order to keep that information on the page. Silentjunimo (talk) 21:24, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

Hello Silentjunimo, thanks for the note! I'll leave it alone. It wasn't in danger of being deleted, but please report the bug here: https://forums.stardewvalley.net/threads/report-1-6-issues-here-march-20.27915/ margotbean (talk) 22:27, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

Adding 1.6 items to Template:Collections_Items_Shipped

Hello Margotbean, I noticed that the Collections page, and the template it uses, Template:Collections_Items_Shipped, was not updated yet. Specifically, the Items Shipped, Fish, and Cooking sections. I went to go update the image File:Shipping_Page_1.png, but the image didn't change after uploading for some reason. Thankfully it didn't change, since I realized a couple of minutes later that Template:Collections_Items_Shipped was protected. I did try to undo it, but it wouldn't let me (I guess only admins can do that?). So, I was wondering if you could undo that edit? And, if possible, maybe allowing edits on Template:Collections_Items_Shipped so that it can be updated? ItsDaCreeper (talk) 22:44, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

Rollback Rights

Can I become a user with rollback rights, Margotbean? 9000 (talkcontributions) 05:42, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

Redirects

I've been adding some redirects to the wiki and you've been deleting them. Personally, I think the redirects provide a tremendous amount of value. However, since you've been deleting them, presumably you think they are just clutter and/or not necessary. Would you allow me to possibly convince you otherwise? As a basic example, take the case of "book seller". If I type that into the wiki, it currently looks like this, giving 0 results and giving the appearance that such a thing does not exist on the wiki at all.

--Zamiel (talk) 10:14, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi, to your specific mention of "Bookseller" - the word does exist in English; it is a noun that is defined as the proprietor of a bookstore or one who sells books. (https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/bookseller) ConcernedApe did NOT make a typo or grammatical error.
So, while redirects might be useful in some circumstances, for this one, it is moot. Rogue.toast (talk) 21:01, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
My inquiry is not just about bookseller. It is about "search redirects" more generally. Search redirects provide value regardless of whether or not the word exists in a dictionary. I could come up with some equally compelling example that does not exist in the dictionary. e.g. Joja Mart --> JojaMart --Zamiel (talk) 23:48, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

Version History edit revert

I would like to ask why my edit on the Version History page was reverted. I feel like I wasn't doing anything wrong, my edit was constructive (I added a ton of links that readers can immediately visit in order to read more info on things mentioned in the changelog), and I even removed an inaccurate edit (eg. Meowmere is not mentioned anywhere on the official changelog because it is secret, but it is listed on the wiki's changelog). Anzasquiddles (talk) 18:30, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

Removing info, even if you feel it's a secret, is cause for reverting it. You also linked to a lot of redirects instead of main links. I don't have time to pick through each sentence with the influx of edits, and trying to prepare updated content offline, so the entire edit got reverted. margotbean (talk) 19:08, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

Scythe

Hey there, on my last edit I just removed the section that stated, "If it is lost (by dying in the Mines, for example), a new one should spawn the next morning, either next to the bed or in the refrigerator." which I mentioned in my edit history. In the 1.6 update ConcernedApe fixed this issue, so that none of the scythes can no longer be lost.

Ps. I understand that you don't want 1 page for all the scythes, but I thought it might be better to just update the pages individually. For example the Iridium Scythe page does not state that with it "upgrade" (obtaining it) its chance of chance of adding a piece of hay to the silo, when cutting grass goes from 75% to 100%. (when compared gold scythe to iridium) I was just gonna focus on changes like that. To make sure all the information is updated and relevant. Emily Romano (talk) 20:00, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

Sam Beach Portraits

Hi, I went into the game code and noticed that there are 10 beach portraits for Sam in the game code but there are only 3 shown on the wiki page. I have posted a stub on the portraits section of Sam's page. My only question is, is there a good reason for these 7 beach portraits to be missing, or is it just a mistake on the wiki? Famous Painter Lupini Paintings Order on Night Market Page

Margotbean, I noticed you reverted my edit on the Night Market page where I ordered the Night Market paintings by the order they appear in game. I just wondered why you did this because it is confusing for the average player who is trying to work out which order the paintings appear in without having to do lots of ordering in their head. GiftHeader displays outdated info

hi boss
as of 1.6, several villagers have new dialogue when given gifts on their birthday (Jas, Vincent, Penny, Shane, Lewis...). the GiftHeader tag does not account for this and still shows the old generic dialogue. i assumed the most elegant solution was to simply remove the GiftHeader tag and manually write in the info it displays, including the new dialogue, but I've been shouted at for attempting this. will GiftHeader be updated to account for the new dialogue?

Hello DrDean (remember to sign posts with 4 tiles, plz!), sorry for the shouty caps. The answer to your question really depends on whether or not someone wants to update the template in all 12 languages. Today is the first day I'm able to access the wiki without errors since v1.6 released, so I can tentatively start to make template changes, but there are several (several) changes to be made. So, do you know what a switch/case is? Do you have any interest in changing the template in all 12 languages? margotbean (talk) 20:06, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
it's alright, i understand the frustration. this is my point though - it seems like more hassle than it's worth to update the template to account for every edge case. unfortunately i'm monolingual and have a very loose understanding of wiki formatting so i won't be much help with it. perhaps the part of GiftHeader that contains birthday dialogue could be removed, and each villager's page could have their respective birthday dialogue written in manually? so it would look like ==Gifts==, then {{GiftHeader}}, then 'For loved or liked gifts, Jas will say...' etc. i would happily do this for the English wiki but unfortunately i won't be much help for any of the translations. DrDeanDingleman (talk) 02:48, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
It might be better that way, but that would still require changes to the template (in all 12 languages). margotbean (talk) 18:37, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
i could do that then, with your permission? i suppose i don't need to understand the language to remove info. this would leave the non-English wikis without any birthday dialogue for a while until a proper translator wrote it in, but if you're okay with that i can go ahead and change the template(s). DrDeanDingleman (talk) 02:33, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
NO. The translations are in data files and must be added to the template. I appreciate your desire to help, but this is not a "starter template", it's advanced. margotbean (talk) 17:54, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
Would it be helpful in the meantime to collect the custom birthday dialog for each language? I don't know how to access data files, but anyone can copy it down by switching the language in-game, as long as they know enough about the language to write it accurately using a keyboard (if it doesn't use a latin alphabet). That way when someone is able to make the changes to the template, they will already have most of the missing data. Scarecrow (talk) 18:55, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
Copy/pasting from data files is the way to go in all languages; the data is already written down there. If you want to write down Chinese characters as an educational exercise, I think it would be enlightening. But helpful to the wiki, not so much. ;) margotbean (talk) 20:40, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

Couple Elixirs vs Two Elixirs

Hello! I just realized that there are two pages and sets of images for the same furniture object. Trying to add silver quality to crab items in Grange Fair

Hi, I'm trying to add the silver quality to crab pot items without adding any other quality on the Stardew_Valley_Fair#categories section, but the row ends up being blank in preview. I've tried turning this: Grangeptsrow|Crab|Crab|100|-4|qualities=0 into this: Grangeptsrow|Crab|Crab|100|-4|qualities=0,1 , but it doesn't work. I noticed that you are the one who created the grangeptsrow template, so maybe you know why it isn't working.--Rayram (talk) 08:31, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Flooring Images and Icons

Sicarious (talk) 13:43, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

The timeline images were uploaded by ConcernedApe. There is no official update to them for v1.6. margotbean (talk) 18:31, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

I was not aware of that, in that case since the change is not as noticeable as the previous ones, so ConcernedApe probably didn't want to add it in. Sorry about that, I thought the timelines were made by users. Emily Romano (talk) 18:48, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

Desert Festival Calico Eggs Template

Hey there again, I was wondering if you could make a template like the Carpenter's Shop, Casino, etc for the Desert Festival. Since there are so many items that now require Calico Eggs to be purchased. Plus, it would make the infobox look a lot neater and be easier if any future items needed to be added. Cushion Pages

A small issue in the grand scheme of things, but the red links on the furniture page and in the furniture navbox look out of place! RaeOSunshine24 (talk) 14:10, 25 April 2024 (UTC)

I fixed this issue, the cushions now have pages. We were waiting for information on how to get them. The information needed was received recently, so I made all the cushion pages. Emily Romano (talk) 17:33, 25 April 2024 (UTC)

Cask Productivity Templates

Pig active days (Just deleting content)

Instead of just deleting content, it's traditional on wikis to poke a poster if something was unclear. Especially for users who have user accounts. (This is referring to Pig article.) I linked to my source, but I can explain it more as I put it back in. --Emky (talk) 13:07, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

Anyway, the explanation, as I described: I summed up all the days of the year, omitted winter days, accounted for the guaranteed-sunny days, the guaranteed rainy days, and per the data on Modding:Weather data (which is in the game code, explaining how the daily weather works), applied the probabilities (as stated on the reference page) for each day across the year (summer having its own separate probabilities) to come up with the 69 number. I searched after and discovered I was not the first one to do this.
Specific section of reference: Modding:Weather data#Rainy and stormy just under it, which is just a prettification of the generation higher in the page. --Emky (talk) 13:11, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
Hello Emky, please read Help:Editing first! After that, please put the calculations on the Pig talk page and refer to them there. Thanks, margotbean (talk) 19:38, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

wicked statue image

Why exactly did you revert my edit of the wicked statue image? The crafting recipe for it gives the variant without red eyes, so I feel that that's the better "default" image for it. Though, when I uploaded it, it seems that cloudflare had cached the old version, so the new image didn't show up properly (see the comment i left in the page source of Wicked Statue). ~trillian (talk) 16:48, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

Perhaps a better question might be "Why exactly did you upload images without reading the section on images in Help:Editing?"
To answer your question exactly: I had no idea what you were doing, replacing an image from 2017 that's used on multiple pages (including templates) in 12 languages. Perhaps a better choice would be to upload a new image without glowing eyes and name it appropriately, for use in the infobox on 12 pages total. margotbean (talk) 16:58, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
Because every single use of that image, in both templates and pages, refers to the statue item, which does not have glowing eyes in the Crafting menu, or when it's in the player's inventory, or 99% of the time when it's placed in the world. Which is why I changed the old image and uploaded the previous version under a different name. I fail to see how anything in the images section of Help:Editing is related to this, though I guess I could have added more edit summaries. ~trillian (talk) 17:05, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
